This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the self-strength counseling model in developing student academic expectations. The study was conducted using a single-subject experimental design to measure the relationship between 2 variables, namely self-strength counseling and academic expectations. The type of design used is the A-B-A design, where there are three experimental phases, namely phase A is the baseline phase and phase B is the intervention phase. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive statistical techniques because the study has a single case (single subject). The number of subjects in this study was limited, namely only five students. The results showed that self-strength counseling was effective in increasing student academic expectations after the intervention process. The study results can be used to reference counselors in higher education to improve student academic expectations through the self-strength counseling model.

Studies on self-regulated learning (SRL) have been well-established and draw education and psychology researchers. This paper focuses on self-motivation as an important element of self-regulated learning. Self-motivation is the first stage an individual needs before acting and determining the success of his/her act. Self-motivation encompasses self-efficacy, intrinsic interest, goal orientation, outcomes expectations, and activation of knowledge. This correlational study involved 100 randomly recruited guidance and counseling department students. The data were collected using self-motivation and self-regulated learning scales and analyzed using regression analysis. This study showed that not all aspects of self-motivation play important roles in self-regulated learning. Goal orientation was found to be the most influential aspect, followed by self-efficacy, activation of knowledge, outcomes expectations, and intrinsic interest/value. This result implies that the learning goal may serve as a strong motivating factor in self-regulated learning. Self-efficacy may invoke psychological energy that drives individuals to perform self-regulated learning. The process and its rationalization are discussed further in this paper

One of the developmental tasks a child should complete is to concentrate. However, some children failed to concentrate, causing difficulty in processing the stimulus thoroughly. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of deep breathing techniques in improving children’s concentration. Applying the pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental method, this study involved sixteen students who were assigned into experimental (n=9) and control (n=7) groups. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data were collected using digit span and analyzed using Mann-Whitney U. The study result showed that the deep breathing technique was effective in improving children’s concentration. Thus, school counselors are recommended to optimize deep breathing techniques to improve their concentration.
