Abstract

This study examines the application of a comprehensive strategic management model in an elementary school participating in Indonesia’s Sekolah Penggerak program, with a particular focus on its conceptual contribution to understanding school-based strategic management in primary education. Drawing on Fred R. David’s strategic management framework, the research explores how the stages of strategy formulation, implementation, and evaluation are adapted and operationalised within the context of an elementary school to address challenges in learning quality and students’ numeracy skills identified in the school’s Education Report. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving school leaders and key stakeholders. The findings demonstrate that the strategic management model functions not only as an administrative planning tool but also as a conceptual framework that integrates instructional improvement, data-informed decision-making, and stakeholder engagement at the elementary school level. Despite initial constraints related to vision alignment, participation, and data literacy, the structured and reflective application of the model contributed to improvements in instructional quality and numeracy-oriented practices. Conceptually, this study extends the application of strategic management theory into the domain of elementary education by illustrating how a business-derived framework can be contextualised to support school transformation and learner-centred improvement. These findings enrich the discourse on strategic management in education and offer a transferable conceptual reference for elementary schools operating in similar reform-oriented and socio-educational contexts.

Abstract

The relatively low numeracy achievement of Indonesian students in national and international assessments highlights the need for more innovative and student-centred mathematics instruction. Learning activities that primarily emphasise procedural exercises often limit students’ conceptual understanding and interest in mathematics. Therefore, instructional approaches that integrate collaboration, educational games, and local cultural contexts are needed to create meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences. This study aimed to examine the implementation of the GASING Approach integrated with the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) model and local wisdom-based games in improving students’ learning outcomes on integer arithmetic operations. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The participants were 28 fifth-grade students of SD Tlogosari Kulon 05. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the Normalised Gain (N-Gain) test. The findings showed an improvement in students’ mathematics learning outcomes after the intervention. The mean pretest score increased from 50.54 to 84.61 on the posttest. Learning mastery improved from 0% to 75%, while the average N-Gain score was 0.689, indicating a medium level of improvement. These results suggest that the implemented learning approach effectively enhanced students’ understanding of integer arithmetic operations. The integration of the GASING Approach, the STAD model, and local wisdom-based games created an enjoyable, collaborative, and meaningful learning environment that supported the improvement of elementary students’ mathematics achievement in integer arithmetic operations.

Abstract

Visual arts education is fundamental to developing students' creativity and aesthetic awareness, yet instruction often remains confined to two-dimensional drawing and imitative tasks. This study aims to investigate the impact of papier-mâché mask-making on the artistic creativity and experiential engagement of elementary school students. Employing a mixed-methods sequential exploratory design, the research was conducted with 20 fourth-grade students at SD 3 Jepang, utilising classroom observations, interviews, and structured questionnaires to capture both the procedural and measurable aspects of artistic production. The findings reveal that students successfully navigated the stages of pre-creation, creation, and post-creation, demonstrating distinct individual expression and technical adaptation. Quantitative analysis corroborated these observations, indicating that students achieved a high level of creativity (M = 77.90) and a very high level of artistic experience (M = 81.45). The study concludes that the transformation of recyclable materials into three-dimensional forms effectively stimulates imaginative thinking and problem-solving abilities. Consequently, it is recommended that educators integrate exploratory, material-based projects into visual arts curricula to foster holistic creative development and enhance students' environmental consciousness.
