Abstract

Background of the study: Education is a basic human right for all, including persons with disabilities. The right to information for students with disabilities is guaranteed by the national law of the Republic of Indonesia. However, students with disabilities still face discrimination and marginalization on campus that might impede their academic achievement and subjective well-being. Purpose: This study aims to explore information experiences of students with disabilities in Universitas Airlangga, which includes information on university policies, research opportunities, student organizations, and career opportunities. Method: This study employed a mixed-methods approach by conducting in-depth interviews with students with disabilities (n = 5), surveys with non-disabled students (n = 106), and focus group discussions with faculty representatives (n = 10). Findings: This study found that inaccessible information continues to be a problem for students with disabilities. However, some of their non-disabled peers, professors, and staff members have been relatively helpful in navigating their respective campus lives. The commitment to inclusive education is shown by the university and faculties within, but effective and sustainable action is required to tackle these issues. Conclusion: The authors recommend that the university utilize already-existing organizations to conduct workshops and promote inclusive learning on campus.

Abstract

Background of the study: Metadata plays a critical role in ensuring the accessibility, interoperability, and long-term preservation of digital manuscripts within archival collections. However, inconsistent practices across institutions present significant challenges for standardization and archival sustainability. Purpose: This study aims to identify key challenges in manuscript metadata management within archival contexts and to analyze differences in practices across selected national and international repositories. Method: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through literature review and document analysis of approximately 50 metadata records. Data were collected from five repositories—Khastara (National Library of Indonesia), BRIN Digital Repository, the British Library, Europeana, and UNESCO Memory of the World—and analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns and gaps. Findings: Repositories highlight different metadata priorities: Khastara emphasizes descriptive details, BRIN focuses on administrative and technical identifiers, the British Library provides strong provenance and historical context, Europeana prioritizes rights and interoperability, and UNESCO underscores heritage significance and preservation. These variations illustrate the archival challenges of achieving consistent metadata standards. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of cross-institutional alignment in strengthening sustainable archival metadata practices. Theoretically, it situates metadata as both a technical and cultural construct; practically, it offers insights for archival institutions to improve strategies. Future research should expand repository coverage and involve user perspectives on archival access and use.

Abstract

Background of the study: Understanding how differences in institutional background and information literacy influence students’ attitudes and practices toward religious moderation in media is essential. Purpose: To examine the comparison of religious moderation among Library Science students in Islamic religious universities (PTKI) and public universities (PTU) in Indonesia, focusing on the role of information literacy. Method: A quantitative approach was used, involving 94 students from four universities recruited through an online survey. The data collected were analyzed using Jamovi. Findings: There is a positive relationship between information literacy and religious moderation, with higher information literacy associated with greater religious moderation. The impact of Information Literacy is more significant in PTKI, as seen from the steeper slope of the regression line. This could indicate that, in PTKI, information literacy plays a significant role in shaping religious moderation. PTU students exhibit higher levels of religious moderation at lower levels of information literacy, which could be due to other factors, such as educational background or social environment. Conclusion: Different approaches may be needed for PTKI and PTU to improve religious moderation through information literacy. Further research is required to understand other factors that influence this relationship, such as curriculum, student mindset, or sources of information accessed.

Abstract

Background of the study: Proper land record management requires consideration of practice procedures. However, land record management in registry offices is insufficient. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of land record management practices in land registry offices in district councils in Tanzania. Method: The study targeted 160 land record staff, purposively selected across 19 districts in three regions of Tanzania. Qualitative data were collected using an interview and observation guide, while quantitative data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire in the study area. Findings: The study found that only record creation practices were more effective with a 2.321 mean score, p< 0.05, while the other five practices were not effective owing to several reasons, including the absence of procedures for guiding land record staff on how to manage land records, and the use of outdated filing classification methods. Conclusion: The use of practice procedures in managing land records in registry offices within district councils in Tanzania will contribute to the effectiveness of land record management.
