Abstract

This study aims to provide a descriptive analysis of ethnicity politics from the perspective of Glazer and Moynihan "Beyond The Melting Pot" to expand Kotawaringin Province. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The research data were obtained from observations, document searches and in-deep interviews. The results found that the desire to separate from Central Kalimantan Province made the five prospective regencies of Kotawaringin Province form a Melting Pot. "Melting Pot," which is meant here, is to be "Orang Kotawaringin." The Kotawaringin community is very heterogeneous, originating from not only one ethnicity but being able to unite for a common goal.In contrast to Glazer and Moynihan's "Being America," which illustrates the pattern of ethnic interaction in New York City is eternal. In Kotawaringin, this ethnic identity is only temporary and impermanent. The collective identity of being an Orang Kotawaringin is built according to an instrumentalist perspective, namely: ethnicity is seen not only as a given value or as a result of a social construction but rather as used to obtain benefits, including federal benefits

Cultural factors become one of the key in influencing people’s behavior to access healthy latrines. The aim this research is to explore the culture factors influencing to access healthy latrine. The method uses a retrospective quantitative approach with cross sectional analytical method (cross sectional) to know the cultural factors that exist in shaping people's behaviour in using healthy latrines. The findings of this research are the cultural factors related to access of healthy latrines which studied include belief on the taboo, gender, beliefs and differences of each generation. The significant influential factors are trust, knowledge and attitude. While other factors simultaneously affect the citizen in behaving using healthy latrines. The conclusion is that the behaviour created by individual knowledge, attitudes and actions in accessing healthy latrines, it will be established and successful if the cultural factor approach is carried out simultaneously. The concept of a person about something is the impact of the way of thinking about something based on the culture containing non-individual but public meaning, so when the system of meaning belongs to the collective society, society can have the same pattern of behaviour. The cultural factors can serve as a basis for improving urban residents' access to healthy latrines.

Abstract

Education has an important role in creating excellent human resources for the advancement of national development. However, in Indonesia, there are still gaps in equal access to education. This study aims to evaluate the performance efficiency of the education sector to provide recommendations of which considered inefficient by using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. This study measures the technical efficiency of primary and secondary schools (junior and senior high school) in 38 regencies/cities in East Java Province for three academic years (2016-2019). The results showed that technical inefficiency still occurs in the implementation of education in East Java. In addition, peer groups and improvement targets were obtained for the inefficient regencies/cities. The indicators that most influence the efficiency value of the education sector in East Java are the Education Fund Allocation as the input variable and the School Continuing Rate as the output variable. The scale efficiency analysis shows that most of the education sector in East Java operates in decreasing returns to scale

Abstract

In the business world, the competition to maintain and obtain more customers has become tougher. The presence of new players entering the market is driven by the developments of internet and advertisement. The X guitar course is an institution engaged in the field of non-formal education services. The customers are the course student that has made the payment transaction. The map of customer segmentation is one of the most important components in finding the main needs of each customer. Know the main needs of each customer is expected to increase the customer’s loyalty. Customer segmentation can be done by using the clustering method through a data mining approach in the form of RFM (Recency, Frequency and Monetary) Models. Recency is the data of the last payment transaction date. Frequency shows the number of course payment transactions. Monetary comes from the nominal amount of the transaction. RFM data is combined with the Fuzzy Gustafson-Kessel and K-Means clustering method to produce output in the form of k-clusters of customer. The formed segment is expected to represent the need of customers that vary by using validation process with the Global Silhouette Index. The customer population of the course is 225 students. It has been concluded that the RFM score for each subject by using 3 FGK clusters is the optimum cluster model with the largest Silhouette Index, which is 0.523. This research is expected to provide an in-depth analysis of customer segmentation for X guitar course.

Abstract

Religious populism has strong and profound influence in Indonesia. It challenges the rational foundation of the democratic structure of the Indonesian Politics. This populist political movement utilizes religious language and symbols as their language of political articulation, negotiation, and contestation, which then occupies the real and virtual public sphere of the politics of Indonesia. Therefore, this use of religious language and symbols has placed democratic system in a serious risk. This critical study is intended to investigate the disadvantages of the use of religious language and symbols in the political arena in Indonesia. I will employ Paul Ricour’s thoughts in his writing, The Fragility of Political Language, as a lens of analysis for that phenomenon. Through that analysis I argue that the use of religious language and symbols in political discourse contradicts the provisional character of political language in democratic political settings.  I suggest, therefore, the reenactment of the constitutional and rational foundation of democratic structure of Politics in Indonesia is seriously required.
