Abstract

The lack of a culturally grounded instrument to assess wisdom (ḥikmah) in general Muslim populations necessitates the development of a contextually relevant scale. This study introduces the Islamic Scale of Wisdom – General Version (ISW-GV), constructed from Ibn Miskawaih’s conceptualization of ḥikmah as a balanced cognitive-reflective virtue, addressing the limitations of Western-based wisdom measurements that tend to emphasize cognitive and experiential aspects while overlooking the moral and virtuous dimensions central to Islamic thought. Research was conducted across 857 respondents through Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and correlational tests. Results supported a stable four-factor structure (problem solving, learning, reflecting, and understanding) with satisfactory model fit indices. Convergent evidence was confirmed through positive correlations with HS, ISW-AV, and 3D-WS, while discriminant evidence was demonstrated via weak associations with GPA and social desirability. Criterion-related analysis showed that wisdom correlated positively with subjective happiness among adult workers but not among students, suggesting developmental variation in the function of ḥikmah. These outcomes support ISW-GV as a valid and context-sensitive instrument for capturing wisdom across everyday settings. However, response patterns indicate that the current bipolar item format (1-2-3-2-1) may blur distinctions between ḥikmah, rashness, and stupidity. Future refinements using rank-order Situational Judgment Test formats may enhance its assesment precision in mapping ethical reasoning across value orientations.

Abstract

This study examines the incorporation of Islamic psychological ideas to enhance parenting resilience for Indonesian moms facing postpartum baby blues. This research utilized a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed literature from 2014 to 2025 to systematically delineate the intellectual structure, thematic progression, and research horizons at the convergence of Islamic psychology, maternal resilience, and postpartum mental health. The research revealed 119 pertinent articles, examined using the Bibliometrix R package (v4.1) and VOSviewer (v1.6.20) for co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, and temporal trend visualization. Results indicated an increasing academic transition from individual-focused treatment methodologies to spiritually informed and culturally contextualized resilience frameworks. Islamic psychological ideas, especially tazkiyatun nafs (purification of the soul), serve as a theoretical basis connecting emotional management, cognitive restructuring, and social support systems. Spiritual activities including dhikr, sabr, syukr, and tawakkul have been demonstrated to augment maternal coping, diminish physiological stress indicators (cortisol), and boost oxytocin-mediated bonding. Moreover, familial concepts highlighting sakinah (tranquility), mawaddah (affection), and rahmah (compassion) bolster collective resilience and societal cohesion. The results of the bibliometric analysis indicated publication trends, collaborative networks, and thematic clusters related to Islamic psychology and postpartum mental health. Rather than demonstrating the clinical capacity of Islamic psychology or evaluating therapeutic outcomes, the findings primarily mapped the development of the field—showing which themes dominate. This study advances the decolonization of psychological knowledge by providing a culturally relevant framework that incorporates faith, emotion, and adaptive functioning, facilitating future evidence-based applications in clinical and community contexts.

Abstract

Mental readiness is an essential psychological component that enables athletes to manage pressure and perform optimally in competitive situations. For student-athletes, these demands become more complex due to the dual responsibilities of academics and sports. Spirituality is believed to serve as an important psychological resource that helps reduce anxiety, regulate emotions and strengthen confidence before competition. This study aimed to explore how spiritual values shape student-athletes’ mental readiness and how they balance spiritual practices with academic and training demands. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nine student-athletes from various sports disciplines and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed four major themes: spiritual practice, inner peace, the meaning of competition and time management. Spirituality was found to function not only as religious worship but also as a psychological mechanism that supports emotional regulation, meaning-making and readiness to face competition. These results highlighted the importance of integrating spirituality into psychological training programs for student-athletes. It is recommended that future studies focus on developing and evaluating structured, spirituality-based interventions within varied athletic settings

Abstract

Islamic college students are individuals who simultaneously study at a university and an Islamic boarding school (pesantren), thus facing complex academic, social, and religious pressures. This study tested a gratitude model by examining the role of social support in gratitude through the mediation of spiritual well-being. A total of 233 Islamic college students from various Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia participated through an online survey using a purposive sampling technique. Structural Equation Modeling (AMOS 26) analysis showed that social support had a positive effect on spiritual well-being (β = 0.314; p < 0.001), but did not have a direct effect on gratitude (β = –0.010; p = 0.815). In contrast, spiritual well-being had a strong influence on gratitude (β = 0.713; p < 0.001) and fully mediated the relationship between the two (β = 0.224; p < 0.001), with a marginal model fit (χ²/df = 2.98; RMSEA = 0.094). These results indicated that gratitude is not formed directly from social support, but instead through spiritual well-being, which transforms external influences into inner well-being and grateful behavior. These findings extended the broaden-and-build theory (Fredrickson, 2004) from an Islamic psychology perspective and provide a practical basis for developing spiritual interventions to strengthen the psychological resilience of Islamic college students.

Abstract

Previous research has addressed the relationship between grit and student adjustment. However, the understanding of the influence of internal factors on adjustment capacity remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze whether peer support can moderate the relationship between grit and student adjustment. This study used a correlational quantitative approach. This study used multiple regression with Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) using JASP 18.3.0. The research sample was 314 students at the Islamic boarding school in Malang, Indonesia. The study's results showed a significant influence of grit on school adjustment, with a p-value of 0.001. Meanwhile, the results of the moderation analysis showed that the peer support significantly moderated the relationship between grit and student adjustment. The value of the negative interaction coefficient indicated that as peer support increases, the relationship between grit and student adjustment actually decreased. The implications of this study suggested that grit plays a significant role in student adjustment in Islamic boarding schools, but this effect weakens as peer support increases, acting as a negative moderator. This research emphasizes the need for a balanced coaching strategy that focuses on strengthening grit and managing peer support to help students adjust optimally.

Abstract

This study examined the preliminary psychological impact of Husnuzhan-Based Islamic Positive Psychology Training on happiness among new female students (santriwati) at Darul Hijrah Islamic Boarding School, South Kalimantan. Grounded in the Islamic concept of husnuzhan—maintaining positive assumptions toward Allah, oneself, and others—the training was designed to support emotional regulation and positive cognitive–spiritual appraisal during the early adaptation period in a pesantren environment. Using a pilot quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach, 17 new santriwati were purposively selected from 107 students who completed the PERMA-Profiler Scale, based on relatively lower happiness scores as well as their availability and willingness to participate. The intervention consisted of four sessions incorporating psychoeducation, reflective exercises, relaxation techniques, and Islamic positive self-talk practices. Quantitative data were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test, while qualitative data from reflective worksheets and interviews were examined through content analysis. The results indicated a strong correlation between pre-test and post-test scores (r = 0.826, p < 0.001), but the increase in happiness scores was not statistically significant, t(16) = 0.81, p = 0.43, with a small effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.20). Qualitative findings revealed early psycho-spiritual changes, including increased emotional calmness, gratitude, optimism, and greater trust in Allah when interpreting daily challenges. Overall, the findings suggested that Husnuzhan-Based Islamic Positive Psychology Training is feasible as a foundational psycho-spiritual intervention for new santriwati, supporting emotional stabilization, adaptive religious coping, and spiritual character formation, although further studies with larger samples and longitudinal designs are needed to examine its long-term effectiveness.
