Abstract

Working mothers with multiple roles often struggle to manage internal pressures, leading to stress, including parental stress associated with the demands of raising children. Islamic religious coping and social support are factors that can influence the level of parenting stress. This study aimed to examine the relationship between Islamic religious coping, social support, and parenting stress in working mothers with young children. A quantitative approach was used in this research, targeting a population of working mothers with early childhood-aged children across Indonesia. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, with criteria: mothers who work or earn independently, have young children, and reside in Indonesia. A total of 206 respondents were included in the research sample. Validity testing was conducted using corrected item-total correlation, while reliability testing was performed with Cronbach's Alpha. The instruments used were the Parenting Stress Scale (r=0.828), the Islamic Religious Coping Scale (r=0.658), and the Social Support Scale (r=0.850). The writer analyzed the data by using multiple linear regression analysis with a stepwise regression method and a partial correlation analysis. The assumption tests included assessments of normality, linearity, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity. Hypothesis testing was carried out, and the effective contribution of each predictor variable was analyzed. This research is expected to contribute to parenting practices with young children.

Abstract

When Muslims perform hijrah, they have transformed their lives, including their worship, from a life of wrongdoing to the path of righteousness (repentance/taubat). While research on Muslim samples has consistently demonstrated that worship increases life satisfaction significantly, few researches have been able to elucidate how worship can generate life satisfaction in Muslims. This research aimed to find out whether attachment to God is significant in mediating the influence of worship on life satisfaction. This research used quantitative research to collect 205 samples of Muslims who performed hijrah in Pekanbaru through snowball sampling. The statistical analysis using the structural equation model with partial least squares (SEM-PLS), revealed that attachment to God significantly mediates the impact of worship on life satisfaction (β = 0.07, T = 2.49, p-values = 0.01). The upsilon (v) value indicated that the mediating effect of attachment to God was still relatively modest. The results of this research contributed to the advancement of Islamic psychotherapy grounded in worship practices to strengthen the connection with God and feel more satisfied with life

Abstract

Challenges associated with social media use, such as distractions and reduced focus on academic activities, can negatively impact students’ task performance. This research aimed to analyze the impact of social media addiction, work technology conflicts, and demographic variables (gender and age) on Islamic students’ task performance. The research used a quantitative and cross-sectional design approach involving 184 Islamic students. Data were collected using validated scales such as Task Performance, Social Media Addiction, and Work-Technology Conflict scales. Data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression and confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that social media addiction and demographic variables did not significantly impacted students’ task performance. However, work-technology conflict has a significant negative effect on task performance. Work-technology conflict levels were associated with a decrease in student task performance. In addition, the analysis showed that the proportion of social media addiction variables, work-technology conflict, gender, and age together influencing task performance was 11.8%, with the remaining 88.2% influenced by other variables outside the research. This showed that students who experienced difficulty in managing the use of technology for academic activities may experience a decrease in productivity. Therefore, educational institutions or campuses can develop programs or strategies to help students manage work-technology conflicts, for example by providing education about time management and techniques for efficient use of technology so as not to interfere with academic focus. With these implications, it is hoped that the research results can be a basis for universities or other educational institutions in designing programs and policies that support the optimization of student academic achievement, especially in facing the challenges of technology and social media. By understanding washatiyah, Islamic students can use social media wisely without becoming addicted, which could negatively impact their task performance

Abstract

This study explored the predictive factors of academic procrastination through a comparative cross-sectional analysis between Indonesian and Egyptian students. Academic procrastination is a widespread issue with negative implications on students' academic performance and psychological well-being. This research examined the role of personality traits such as maladaptive perfectionism, self-efficacy, self-regulation, and time orientation in predicting procrastination behaviour. The study involved 50 undergraduate students (25 from each country), selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected via validated instruments including the Pure Procrastination Scale, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory. The results revealed that Indonesian students had a higher average academic procrastination score (M = 45.60, SD = 7.12) compared to Egyptian students (M = 43.20, SD = 6.89), though the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Both groups demonstrated similar levels of self-efficacy (M = 34.50 for Indonesia, M = 34.20 for Egypt). Maladaptive perfectionism was more prevalent in Indonesian students (M = 42.20, SD = 5.85) compared to their Egyptian counterparts (M = 39.80, SD = 6.12). Egyptian students, however, showed better self-regulation (M = 73.90, SD = 7.50) compared to Indonesian students (M = 70.50, SD = 8.30). Furthermore, Egyptian students were more future-oriented (M = 58.40, SD = 6.85), while Indonesian students were more present-oriented (M = 55.40, SD = 6.95). The findings highlighted the influence of cultural factors on procrastination, with future-oriented time perspectives in Egyptian students linked to better self-management. These results suggested that culturally sensitive interventions focusing on enhancing self-regulation and addressing maladaptive perfectionism could mitigate academic procrastination

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the internalization process of the teachings of the Tarekat Qadiriyah Wa Naqsabandiyah within both formal and informal educational systems at Pondok Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) Aulia Cendekia. This research focused on exploring the extent to which these teachings were integrated into the pesantren curriculum and their impact on the character development of the students (santri). Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method through observations, interview and literature review, the study emphasized the integration of Tarekat values in the teaching of classical Islamic texts, daily dzkir (remembrance of God), and weekly wirid (devotional practices). Findings showed that the Tarekat teachings had been comprehensively integrated into both the academic and non-academic aspects of pesantren educational system. The kyai (spiritual leader) played a pivotal role as a spiritual guide, assisting santri in understanding and practicing Sufi teachings. This internalization process had significantly contributed to the development of discipline, spiritual awareness and emotional balance among the students. It can be concluded from this study that the application of Tarekat Qadiriyah Wa Naqsabandiyah has successfully fostered students who are intellectually competent and spiritually resilient. However, continuous adaptation of teaching methods is necessary to maintain relevance in the face of modern challenges. The internalization of these teachings played a crucial role in balancing spirituality with formal education in pesantren environment.

Abstract

Dynamic change has occurred not only in business and governmental organizations but also in higher education. The implications are not merely practical but can also be studied psychologically. This study aimed to examine the impact of status quo behavior on change resistance in private higher education, including observing the role of lecturer demographics, namely gender and lecturing tenure, in the context of status quo and change resistance intensity. Data were collected from 100 lecturers using questionnaires. Hypotheses were tested by employing descriptive statistics, simple linear regression, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The descriptive test results indicated that lecturers' status quo behavior was relatively moderate with a low level of change resistance. The regression test results proved the positive and significant impact of status quo on the intensity of change resistance. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant difference in status quo behavior and change resistance intensity between male and female lecturers. Meanwhile, in Islamic perspective, positive change is considered the main key to achieving significant progress, improvement, and innovation. Lecturing tenure shows a significant difference in change resistance intensity, even though it is not significantly different in terms of status quo behavior.

Abstract

Individual well-being is often assessed through flourishing, the highest level of subjective well-being, enabling individuals to pursue meaningful goals while fostering resilience. This study explores the role of self-acceptance and religiosity in promoting flourishing among students in Semarang. Using a quantitative associative causality method, the research involved 770 students sampled via convenience sampling, with data collected through the flourishing, self-acceptance, and religiosity scales. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed a significant relationship between self-acceptance, religiosity, and flourishing, explaining 62.6% of the variance. Students with high self-acceptance and religiosity demonstrate improved self-understanding and internalization of religious values, leading to enhanced positive emotions and life satisfaction. The integration of Islamic principles with psychological concepts contributes to inner peace and optimal functioning in daily life. Implications include the need for future research to examine additional factors, such as social support, in promoting flourishing. This study also contributes to theory by highlighting the value of combining religiosity and psychology to explain well-being. For societal impact, universities can implement programs fostering self-acceptance and religiosity to support students' mental health and personal growth. This approach can help students manage academic pressures and life challenges, promoting resilience and overall well-being. In conclusion, self-acceptance and religiosity are crucial for flourishing in students, enhancing their psychological well-being and resilience against mental health issues.

Abstract

Parental burnout is a condition of intense fatigue related to the role of being a parent, which impacts caregiving and increases the risk of maltreatment and child neglect. Previous research has shown that parenting stress is influenced by culture and religious beliefs. Therefore, this study aimed to explore parental burnout among Muslim single mothers. The study involved three participants, who were recruited through an open advertisement. The research used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. The results of the study revealed that all three participants experienced parental burnout in the form of exhaustion from their role as parents due to the dual burden of being both a mother and the primary breadwinner. The aspects of parental burnout they experienced were emotional exhaustion, a sense of contrast with their previous self, and a feeling of being fed up. However, emotional detachment was not found in any of the three participants. This study showed that single mothers experienced emotional exhaustion caused by their dual roles as caregivers and breadwinners. This condition affected their perspective on ideal parenting and lead to feelings of being fed up.
