Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of expert validation of a developed Kahoot!-based cognitive test instrument on corona pandemic theme in the Integrated Science course. The research used the Research and Development (R&D) 3D model. The assessment instrument was developed on a web basis using the Kahoot! platform. The data were analyzed by quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis based on the validity of the questions obtained through expert validation tests. The results showed that the cognitive test instrument developed obtained an average score of 4.57 with a very valid category referring to the distribution of the three aspects of the assessment, where the construction and material aspects are in the very valid category, and the language aspect is included in the valid category. It can be concluded that the instrument made are in accordance with the standards and assessment criteria. So, developed Kahoot!-based cognitive test instrument can be used to assess cognitive aspect of pre-service science teacher on Corona Pandemic Theme.

Abstract

This article aimed to investigate the use of  mobile application among physics teachers in terms of its use as a tool for physics experiment and  the obstacles faced by teachers. The  data were collected using a questionnaire consisted of 15 questions. The participants were physics teachers in SMP/MTs and SMA/MA (junior high schools and high schools) in West Java, Indonesia. The questionnaire was delivered through social media Whatsapp in a form of Google Form. The results showed that mobile application had not been widely used by the teachers as a tool for physics experiment. This condition occured because of  their limited knowledge in using mobile application as a tool for physics experiment. It is expected that the use of mobile application training will be a solution in updating ICT skills of physics teachers.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of incorporating explicit instruction of scientific argumentation through practical work on 10th grade students’ skills in science process. This research used a quasi-experimental method which involved one control group and two experimental groups from two national secondary schools in the category of rural school were involved in this study. A total of 112 10th grade students from the three classrooms were assigned randomly as the conventional (CON) group, experimental group with Inquiry without Argument approach (IWA) group and the Modified Argument-Driven Inquiry approach (MADI) group. In order to evaluate the effects of intervention on the tenth-grade students, Science Process Skills Test (SPS Test) was administered as pre-test and post-test on the control and experimental groups. Data collected from the experimental study were described by means of descriptive analysis and inferential analysis involving ANOVA analyses. The results of ANOVA showed there exist significant differences in science process skills among the three groups where students in the MADI group showed better performance compared to the other groups. The results of this research have implication on researchers and practitioners keen on promoting biology science process skills through instructions of scientific argumentations given explicitly in learning environments of science practical work.

Abstract

Education currently supported by technological developments such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. Science learning based on higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) is needed as the main goal in learning. AI in teacher professional developments are the new way to be implemented. The purpose of this research was to describe the competency enhancement program for science teacher that assisted by AI in designing HOTS-based integrated science learning. 29 science teachers in West Java participated in this program. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data from all participants. The results revealed that the program held in blended learning with face-to-face sessions about higher order thinking skills in science learning, use of multiple representations in science learning, construct of science learnings’ theme, integrated science learning, and continued by online learning by web based-AI. Science teachers perceived helpfulness to integrate various science content, followed courses, held discussion, answer the tests, and validating lesson plan products. Teachers has new experiences for the implementation program.

Abstract

This purpose of this study is to: (1) describe the implementation of contextual learning by science teacher in Salatiga Private Middle School, (2) analyze the challenges of science teacher in Salatiga Private Middle School in implementing contextual learning. The study employed qualitative research in which the sample was 4 teachers of private middle school of Salatiga. The data obtained from the observation and questionnaire instruments constructed from six criteria. The criteria of contextual learning are: 1) constructivism, 2) asking, 3) finding, 4) learning community, 5) modeling, 6) reflection. Data analysis from the research that has been conducted is by processing data descriptively. The research shows that the implementation of contextual learning in every Private Middle School of Salatiga for science subject are on the good category (score interval: 2,82 ≤ score < 3,37). The highest accomplishment from the whole indicator of contextual learning from finding aspect with score 3,00 (good category). Teacher's challenges in implementing contextual learning, in general, are the limited facility to apply scientific method through practicum or experimenting in the laboratory, lack of opportunities for teachers in developing contextual-based media, and lack of assistance provided by the teacher in the aspects of a learning community, constructivism, and finding.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of guided inquiry-based learning toward the improvement of environmental behavior and critical thinking of students in environmental education-based science. This study used the Classroom Action Research method through two cycles each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The objects of this study were 35 students of the 3rd class of Junior High School of SMPIT Raudatul Jannah in Cilegon, Indonesia. The results showed that on the first cycle it has no a significant change in environmental behavior and critical thinking competence of students but then an increase in the second cycle. In general, it can be concluded that guided inquiry learning in science can increase environmental behavior and critical thinking of students

Abstract

Thematic approach in education is a way of holistic view in modern instructional practices. The 21st century learning needs students have ability and necessary skills, especially thinking critically than content focused. This action research aims to enhance critical thinking and learning achievement of grade 10 students through inquiry-based STEM learning. Twenty first students were participated by who had mean score lower than 70 percent of critical thinking. The research instruments consisted of 6 lesson plans, 20 items of critical thinking test with 4-multiple choice, interviewing form in teaching and learning environments, and observation during lesson plans implementation. Data were gathered and analyzed by descriptive statistics. The result showed that students who learned through inquiry-based STEM learning can increase their critical thinking to meet the criterion. Qualitative data indicated that they need more improvement in the diversity of learning methods as well as STEM education. Suggestion needs students to design and criticize in their working assignment.

Abstract

Teaching-learning in the 21st-century is influenced by technological advances, such as the use of online media. In addition, based on Indonesia’s curriculum requirements, teaching-learning has to utilize the local potential of the environment. This study aims to develop a Fructuweb, a learning website with Banten’s exotic fruits as content to support local potential-based learning in the digital era. A 3D research and development methodology was used comprise of define, design, and develop. The subjects for expert validation were five lecturers, and for individually user response tests were four teachers and fifteen students of 10th-grade representatives from senior high school in Serang city and Lebak district, Banten Province. Descriptive analysis were carried out to identify learning process and media need in schools at Banten, also to validate the feasibility of the website. The expert validation result has an average value of 95.1% for the content material aspect of Fructuweb and 92.7% for the media aspect;  as for the user response (student and teacher) was 93.4%. These results indicated that the Fructuweb is very feasible to use as an online learning source.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop laboratory module of isolation trimyristin from nutmeg (Garcinia mangostana) to support natural product chemistry course. The research design used 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The population in this study covers all students of Chemistry Education Program, University of Mataram who took natural product course. Meanwhile there were four students who became the sample in this study. The four students were taken randomly and became respondents for a limited trial. The results showed that the validity of three validators obtained by using Aiken index was V = 0.7 indicated that the natural chemistry laboratory module about trimyristin isolation from nutmeg was valid and feasible to use. Practicality can be seen from the responses of students and lecturers who showed a positive response with the average of all module component practicability of 83%. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the natural chemistry labortory module of isolation trimyristin from nutmeg was feasible and practical, so it can be used in the learning process.
