Abstract

This study aims to conduct a literature review on the policy of managing primary schools in Indonesia, with a focus on the development of best policies and practices that have been implemented. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through searching and analyzing relevant literature documents. The results of the study indicate that there are several best policies and practices in managing primary schools in Indonesia. These include the school autonomy policy that provides freedom for schools to manage and develop educational programs, as well as the policy of equalization and inclusivity in education that aims to provide equal opportunities for all students. In addition, there are also best practices such as developing leadership programs for school principals, effective and efficient management of human resources, and the implementation of information technology in school administration. However, there are still several obstacles in managing primary schools in Indonesia, such as the lack of quality human resources, insufficient budget for educational program development, and lack of access to education for students living in remote areas. In order to improve the policy of managing primary schools in Indonesia, it is recommended to continue developing leadership development programs for school principals, improving the quality of human resources, and providing better support and access to students in remote areas.

Abstract

This study aims to find the parents' response towards online schooling from home attended by their children. The spread of Covid-19 becomes a massive pandemic hazardous for the community. Its rapid transmission forces government to implement emergency policy to cope with this virus. The Ministry of Education and Culture decided to eliminate face-to-face learning on behalf of the Indonesian Government. The school is temporarily closed to disrupt a chain of Covid-19 transmission. As a replacement, face-to-face learning is transformed to be online learning. In this case, parents' roles become more prominent because they must provide learning assistance to their children to ensure that schooling from home can be followed properly. This exploratory research involved 200 parents as respondents to fill in the questionnaire, and later 12 parents were invited to proceed with further interview sessions. The result indicated a positive response to the implementation of online learning initiated by their schools. Its implementation is an appropriate option for preventing students from infectious Covid-19. However, some obstacles occur when parents cannot assist their children optimally due to their responsibility to accomplish their work and go to the office during school hours. It is suggested that teachers' assistance during learning from home can be improved to maintain effective learning. Moreover, parents hope that face-to-face school can be held right away after the pandemic is successfully handled.

Abstract

One of the most important teaching tasks is designing teaching materials professionally and accordingly constructed to support the teaching and learning process effectively. Thus, teachers need to be aware of selecting the appropriate material and learning resources for their students. This awareness is called self-efficacy which can be described as a person’s belief in their ability to succeed in a particular situation or task including teaching material preparation. Thus, this present research investigated the level of teachers’ self-efficacy in constructing a literacy-based teaching material. It employed mixed-method research, explanatory- sequential research. The respondents were 69 teachers of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah to Madrasah Aliyah in East Java. Surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions were used to collect data that was analyzed using SPSS 25. Further, the data was also described qualitatively based on the theme made. Then, the result shows the teachers’ self-efficacy in constructing literacy-based teaching material is on the intermediate level. Thus, implications and recommendations are given in this study.
