Abstract

This research explores the impact of Guided Inquiry Learning-oriented learning with a scientific approach on understanding mathematical concepts of PGMI UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu students. The research design uses an experimental method with an experimental group and a control group. The results of the analysis show that students who were taught using Guided Inquiry Learning-oriented learning experienced a significant increase in understanding mathematical concepts compared to learning without a Guided Inquiry Learning orientation, even though both used a scientific approach. A significant value of less than 0.05 in a statistical test indicates that the difference can be considered statistically significant. However, the results of further analysis showed that there was no significant difference in increasing understanding of mathematical concepts between classes that used the Scientific Approach and the control group in two particular classes (Class=2 and Class=3). A P-value greater than 0.05 in statistical analysis indicates that the results are not statistically significant. Thus, although there was a significant increase in understanding of mathematical concepts in the group that implemented Guided Inquiry Learning-oriented learning, this research also showed that there was no significant difference in this increase between this group and the control group in two particular classes. These results provide further understanding about the effectiveness of certain learning methods in improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Constructivism is a learning theory perspective that strongly influences how mathematics is learned. Since secondary school students are just beginning to recognize and understand abstract thought processes, it is not appropriate to educate them through meaningless memorization, especially in mathematics which is full of abstract symbols. The writing of this article aims to find out the research trends regarding the constructivism approach and to find out the research themes that have the opportunity to be used as research in the future. The method in this research is using bibliometric analysis. Research data obtained through Harzing's Publish or Perish software with Google scholar database, keywords constructivism and junior high school geometry and the result of the maximum number "1000", the article obtained as many as 996 articles with a period of 2017-2023. Then limited to accredited journals sinta 2 obtained 50 articles. The results showed that the publication trend with the research theme of the constructivism approach experienced the highest increase between 2017 - 2020. In addition, the theme of research on the constructivism approach that has the opportunity to be used as research in the future there are four keywords, namely constructivism and Realistic Mathematics Education (RME).

Abstract

The Kampus Mengajar Program is a government policy aimed at students to provide innovations to problems in partner schools in the teaching and learning process. The problem is that in learning, no attention is paid to students' problem-solving skills when working on story problems. This study aims to describe and analyze the problem-solving skills of story problems on beam volume material for grade IV students in one of the Kampus Mengajar partner schools in Pemalang Regency, SD N 3 Kedungbanjar. The qualitative approach is descriptive, involving 28 students and focusing on three students representing high, medium, and low abilities. Data collection used tests, documentation, and interviews. The instruments used were two problem-solving test questions, interview guidelines, and a rubric for assessing problem-solving skills based on the stages of the Polya Model (understanding the problem, planning a solution, implementing a solution plan, and checking back). The results showed that students with low average test scores still had difficulties in the stages of Polya's Model. Many students did not use all four stages of problem-solving entirely and correctly. Students had difficulty at the recheck stage, with the percentage of students who went through the stage only amounting to 18.75%. Based on the high, medium, and low category subjects, it shows that (1) High-skills subjects can complete all stages of Polya Model problem-solving. (2) Moderate skills subjects have not been able to complete all stages of Polya Model problem-solving by skipping the checking backstage. (3) Low-skills subjects were only able to go through the stages of making and implementing a solution plan by skipping the stages of understanding the problem and checking back. Development recommendations are expected to be needed to improve the results and process of problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the critical thinking profile of SMAN 5 Model Palu grade XI students in solving trigonometric identity proof problems regarding gender differences. The subjects in this study were male students or S1 and female students or S2 of grade XI Mipa 4 SMAN 5 Model Palu who have high mathematical abilities. Data were collected through tests and interviews. The results of this study indicate that S1 and S2 in solving trigonometric identity proofs have the correct answers and are accompanied by supporting reasons. However, there are some differences in thinking activities between the two, namely S1 who is a male student with high ability has a shorter answer than the solution of S2 who is a female student with high ability, S1 uses a logical way of thinking compared to S2 who tends to be proficient with his verbal abilities. This shows that S1 and S2 even though they have equal mathematical abilities, there are some differences between the two in solving trigonometric identity proofs whose data are obtained from written assignment answers and interview results.

Abstract

This research examines students' mistakes in solving mathematics story problems, especially algebraic arithmetic operation story problems, based on Kastolan theory and examines what factors cause students to make these mistakes. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The place where the research was carried out was SMP Negeri 6 Palu. The subjects taken in this research were class VII students at SMP Negeri 6 Palu, consisting of 1 student with several considerations obtained as students with low MH abilities. Before analyzing the data obtained, it is validated first using member check. The data analysis techniques used in this research are data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that subject MH made 3 types of errors based on Kastolan's theory, namely: Conceptual Errors in the form of the subject not being able to apply the formula, classifying the form of variables in solving the problem when using the formula that has been obtained, the subject not writing completely the information known in the problem and errors in substituting known information into the question. Procedural errors in the form of irregularity in the solution steps used by the subject, there are several steps that are skipped so that the solution becomes wrong until the final stage of solving the problem. Technical error in the form of Subject MH making an error in calculating the value in the arithmetic operation shown in the subject only dividing by 2 each solution to get the result of the question in the problem because the subject did not understand the formula to be used and was not correct in substituting the value in the problem into problem solving. The factors that cause errors made by students are divided into two, namely internal and external factors. Internal factors include low basic knowledge regarding the form of arithmetic operations, solving steps for story questions and low knowledge of algebraic material. Lack of practice working on questions in the form of story problems and students' lack of accuracy in solving story problems. The external factor is that students are in a hurry when completing story problems because they want to finish them immediately and go to do other activities with their friends.
