Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Borax can result in oxidative stress and cause the onset of gastrointestinal ulcerations that will dampen the duodenal villi to become shorter and can even disappear. Cell damage due to oxidative stress can be prevented by administering antioxidants. Antioxidants will inhibit the onset of chain reactions in the formation of free radicals by complementing the existing electron deficiency. Honey is one of the natural ingredients that is rich in antioxidants and part of thibbun Nabawi as one of the inhibitors of the toxic effects of borax. Objective : The purpose of this study is to to analyze the effect of honey administration on the histopathological description of submucosa and epithelial mucosa of duodenal wistar rats as an inhibitor of the toxic effects of borax (Sodium tetraborate). Methods: This study used the true experimental method with Post Test Only Control Group Design using 25 mice which will be divided into five groups, namely K (negative control), P (positive control), M1 (borax and honey dose 1), M2 (borax and honey dose 2), M3 (borax and honey dose 3). This study was conducted for 22 days then. Took the duodenal organ on all samples and then made histological preparations with HE staining. Observations were made with an Olympus microscope to see submucosal edema and damage to the epithelium of the duodenal mucosa. Results: The results of the study found that borax 26 mg / head / day had an influence on the histopathological picture of duodenal borax. In addition, the administration of honey dose 75 mg / Kg BB provides a toxic inhibitory effect of borax in the duodenum best among other treatment groups. However, statistically there was no effect of honey administration on the histopathological picture of the duodenum of wistar rats as an inhibitor of the toxic effect of borax (Sodium Tetraborate) with p˃0.05. Conclusion: Statistically it can be concluded that there is no effect of  the administration of honey on the histopathology picture of the duodenum of wistar rats as an inhibitor of the toxic effects of borax (Sodium tetraborate).

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by increased sugar levels that cause serious damage to various organs. Diabetic ketoacidosis is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus. It is characterized by a decrease in the patient's consciousness, increased blood sugar levels, and the presence of acidic ketone bodies. It is a serious condition that can cause a coma or even death. Mytragina Speciosa,  known as kratom, is a plant often found in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. This herb is frequently used as a stimulant to treat fatigue and help improve productivity. Based on previous research, Mytragina Speciosa is rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, and phenols. These compounds are very useful for inhibiting the activity of α-glucosidase and lipase enzymes in the pancreas, so they have a potential effect on diabetes mellitus. However, there has been no research related to the administration of Mytragina Speciosa its effect on blood ketone levels and glomerular diameter. Objective: to determine whether there is an effect of Mytragina Speciosa on blood ketone levels and glomerular diameter in mice with a diabetes mellitus model. Methods: Hyperglycemia is induced by Streptozotocin. On the 14th day, the mice will be checked for hyperglycemia and blood ketone levels. Administration of Mytragina Speciosa begins on day 15 for 2 weeks. At the end of the second week, the mice will be checked for blood ketone levels using a special kit to detect ketone bodies. Furthermore, the glomerular diameter will also be assessed. Results: In this study, treatment for 2 weeks only caused an increase in blood sugar levels in mice, but did not cause an increase in blood ketone levels in the diabetes group or other treatment groups (p > 0.05). Histological preparation of the Glomerulus showed a decline in glomerular diameter. Conclusions: The administration of Mitragyna speciosa extract did not result in a significant increase in blood ketone levels in diabetic mice. Many factors are involved in increasing blood ketone. It is necessary to monitor ketone levels during treatment as well as have a longer treatment time to see the effect of Mitragyna speciosa on ketones

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a growing health problem, including among adolescents in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) where diets are high in fat and low in fiber, and physical activity is limited. This condition carries a risk of developing cardiovascular disease, necessitating preventive interventions tailored to the characteristics of the Islamic boarding school community. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to increase students' knowledge and awareness of high cholesterol prevention through healthy lifestyle education and the use of bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) as an alternative herbal cholesterol-lowering agent. The program's innovation lies in integrating evidence-based health education with local wisdom, making it easily implemented in Islamic boarding schools. The activity was conducted at the Zainul Hasan Genggong Islamic Boarding School in Probolinggo in May 2025, involving 30 students and 14 religious teachers. The methods used included an initial survey, FGDs, interactive counseling with pre- and post-test evaluations, and free health checks, including anthropometry, blood pressure, and blood sugar measurements, medical consultations, and medication administration. The primary outcome was increased participant knowledge, measured by comparing pre-test and post-test scores and baseline health data from the examination. The results of the activity showed an average increase in participant knowledge of 23.4 points between the pre-test and post-test. Students also gained practical skills in using bay leaves as a daily ingredient beneficial for health.

Abstract

Access to clean water in Indonesia remains a challenge, especially in rural areas and educational environments such as Islamic boarding schools. Consuming contaminated air in the long term from shallow wells can cause damage to organs, such as the kidneys, liver, and digestive tract. Therefore, the availability of sufficient and affordable clean water is very important for the survival and well-being of society. The approach in the Islamic boarding school environment, through community service activities and conducting counseling related to clean water processing and its relationship to preventing organ damage, is very important to create collective awareness in maintaining the availability of clean water. The implementation was carried out on May 17, 2025, at the Al-Jihad Islamic Boarding School in Surabaya. The series of activities began with filling out a pre-test, counseling through interactive lectures, and then continued with filling out a post-test to transmit the students' understanding after participating in this activity. The activity showed an increase in students' knowledge about water quality (management) and its impact on health (p0.05). Providing counseling to students at the Al Jihad Islamic Boarding School in Surabaya was able to increase students' knowledge about water quality (management) and its impact on health.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to conduct outreach and mentoring on the use of the New Student Admissions website (PPDB website) at the Busyri Al Ali Foundation. This website was built to help smooth the process of admitting new students and make it easier for prospective parents to complete the registration process. In the current student admissions system, the committee must enter the data of registered students along with the identities of their parents one by one in the school ledger. Another problem is that prospective parents have difficulty in obtaining new student registration information, causing the number of new students to tend to decrease every year. Website outreach was conducted to introduce the PPDB website to the entire academic community within the Busyri Al Ali Foundation. This can make it easier for the entire academic community to introduce the school and help prospective parents to register independently. The results of the outreach showed an increase in participant understanding from the results of the outreach activities. This is indicated by an increase in posttest results of 100% from the pretest results conducted before the outreach activities of 78%. In addition, mentoring activities were also carried out to ensure the PPDB Team can operate the system optimally. Mentoring was carried out for one month in a hybrid manner to ensure the admin can operate the system. During the mentoring activities, several evaluations were carried out regarding obstacles in using the system at the school and the difficulties faced by prospective parents in making online payments.
