The RASCH model analysis has the advantage of creating evenly spaced measurement scales to provide accurate information about participants and the quality of the items producedThe results of the analysis show that items from the Emotional Intelligence instrument are well received by college students with Cronbach alphas values that include special categories. This is because it represents the interaction between the respondent and the instrument item. Person reliability score results are included in a special category as a measure of the consistency of responses of respondents.  Item Reliability score are included in a special category as an indicator of the quality of the item items in the instrument.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low personal quality of the counselor teachers resulting in the unwillingness of the counselee to consult. The purpose of the study was to show a description of the development of empathy skills possessed by prospective guidance and counseling teachers candidates. The participants in this study were 156 students of the Department of Educational Psychology and Guidance at the Faculty of Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. The data were collected through a self-report questionnaire to measure empathy. The results showed that the development of empathy was mostly in the medium category with a proportion of 35.25%, meaning that Guidance and Counseling Teacher candidates tend to be confused and hesitant to understand the views of others in a condition, sometimes unable to position themselves imaginatively towards fictional feelings and actions, lack feelings of warmth, affection, and care for the suffering of others, and sometimes unable to feel discomfort like others because of being influenced by several factors such as closeness and experience. The analysis of perspective-taking indicator was a low category; also, the development of female empathy was higher than that of men, so the empathy skills possessed by the Guidance and Counseling candidates had not to reach a holistic counselor personally.

Abstract

The development of instruments designed to assess student self-concept is crucial. This understanding of self-concept is based on the premise that it is a dynamic and ever-evolving construct. The concept of self-concept is initially conceived as a unidimensional structure but subsequently evolves into a multidimensional construct. The present study assesses the validity and reliability of the newly developed self-concept instrument. In Indonesia, there is a paucity of research that employs the Rasch Model to examine self-concept instruments, particularly in the context of the junior high school population. The objective of this study was to analyze the self-concept instrument using the Rasch Model with a sample of 113 students at the junior high school level. The research methodology employed is quantitative, with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique employed was simple random sampling. The findings of the study indicate that the instrument effectively assesses the intended dimensions of self-concept. The reliability of the self-concept instrument is deemed to be of a high category, while the reliability of the self-concept item is considered to be of an excellent standard.

Abstract

This study explores the multidimensional professional identity of senior high school counselors in Bandung City. Using a phenomenological approach and focus group discussions, five indicators of professional identity were identified: professional involvement, knowledge, attitudes, roles and expertise, and professional philosophy. Findings reveal that active engagement in professional organizations enhances competencies and social capital, while knowledge of the profession’s history and regulations informs ethical and effective practice. Empathy, objectivity, and relational orientation strengthen professional pride, and counselors’ roles in case management and referral highlight their adaptive and accountable function as connectors. The philosophy of guidance and counseling, grounded in preventive, strengths-based, and humanistic principles, supports holistic student development and resilience. Professional identity emerges from integrating experience, competence, ethics, and collaboration, contributing to improved counseling services and student well-being. Keywords: phenomenology, professional identity, preventive guidance, school counselors, strengths-based approach
