Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that produces good quality shoe producers in the world, many of whose production is exported. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitive position and performance of shoes production in Indonesia as an export product. Shoes product is selected as a reason to the demand from abroad for which is increasing from year to year. The data used in this study is panel data on shoe exports over a period of ten years, namely from 2012-2022 by analyzing top ten export destination countries, namely the United States, Belgium, China, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, England, South Korea, Italy, Mexico. The Revealed Comparative Advantages (RCA) and Export Product Dynamics (EPD) methods are used respectively to analyze the comparative advantages and performance of shoe exports from Indonesia. The results of the study show that Indonesia has a comparative advantage based on the RCA method, then based on the EPD method, it is obtained that Indonesian sports shoes are classified as rising star in ten export destination countries, Australia, Belgium, China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, England and United States. The research found that Belgium has the most competitive to be an export destination with RCA Value 93.7 despite the total export value in modest conditions. The lowest RCA value is Japan 2.08 despite high volume in total exports.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the export performance of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, as the leading producers in ASEAN, from 2014 to 2023. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach to evaluate production, consumption, export volume, export value, and competitiveness through the Market Share Index (MSI) indicator. The results indicate that Indonesia dominates the global CPO market, with the highest average export volume and export value compared to Malaysia and Thailand. Domestic policies, such as export restrictions, and global market dynamics influence Indonesia's export value fluctuations. Malaysia demonstrates stable production and domestic consumption but faces challenges in enhancing its international competitiveness. As the smallest producer, Thailand shows steady growth but contributes significantly less than the other two countries. Factors such as government policies, changes in global prices, and extreme weather conditions affect the export performance of all three countries. This study is expected to provide strategic insights for improving the competitiveness of CPO exports in the international market.

Abstract

This study analyzes the competitiveness of cocoa bean exports from Indonesia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, and Cameroon using the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA), and Market Share Index (MSI) approaches. Secondary data from 2014 to 2023 were collected from FAO, BPS, UN Comtrade, and Trade Map. The results show that Indonesia experienced a decline in cocoa production from 734,795 tons in 2019 to 641,741 tons in 2023, while export volume decreased by more than 70% over the same period. RCA and RSCA indices confirm that Indonesia lost its comparative advantage, with RCA values falling below one and RSCA remaining negative since 2017. In contrast, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana consistently recorded strong competitiveness, supported by favorable policies and high productivity. Ecuador showed gradual improvement, while Cameroon’s performance fluctuated due to domestic instability. MSI results reveal that Indonesia’s global market share fell from 1.96% in 2014 to only 0.15% in 2023. These findings suggest that Indonesia needs to strengthen its downstream cocoa industry, enhance farm productivity, and improve policy support to regain competitiveness. The study contributes to the literature by providing a multi-country comparison of cocoa competitiveness using three quantitative indices and highlights practical implications for policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of social media influencers and the role of e-commerce on purchasing decisions of imported cosmetic products, with a specific focus on university students in West Java. The research is motivated by the increasing penetration of digital platforms in shaping consumer behavior within the beauty industry, where imported cosmetics continue to dominate due to their global reputation, quality assurance, and trend-driven innovations. Using a quantitative associative approach, data were collected through online questionnaires and analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings reveal that social media influencers significantly affect cosmetic import activity but do not directly influence purchase decisions. Conversely, e-commerce platforms demonstrate a positive and significant role in shaping purchasing decisions, though their direct effect on cosmetic imports remains insignificant. Furthermore, purchase decisions were found to positively and significantly impact cosmetic import activity, underscoring the central role of consumer behavior in driving import volumes. These results highlight that while influencers effectively stimulate awareness and interest, their impact is more indirect, whereas e-commerce provides convenience and access that strongly encourage purchase intentions. For policymakers and cosmetic industry stakeholders, these insights emphasize the need to optimize influencer strategies and e-commerce features in order to strengthen consumer engagement and ensure sustainable import growth. Academically, the research contributes to expanding literature on digital marketing, consumer behavior, and international trade by bridging gaps in prior studies that have rarely addressed official cosmetic imports in the Indonesian context.
