Abstract

The increasing demand for environmentally friendly materials has driven research into biodegradable composites. Straw fiber, an abundant agricultural byproduct, remains underutilized as a filler material in Wood Polymer Composites (WPC). To enhance its application potential, this study investigates the surface treatment of straw fiber/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix composites using a plasma jet with argon injection. The use of cold plasma as a treatment method is expected to improve the interfacial bonding between the straw fiber and the PVA matrix, thereby enhancing composite properties. The research employs several analytical methods, including morphological analysis of straw fibers before and after plasma jet treatment using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), contact angle measurements, and emission intensity analysis via Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES). The results reveal significant morphological changes in the straw fiber surface after plasma jet treatment, characterized by increased roughness and improved adhesion with the PVA matrix. The emission intensity analysis identifies peak reactive argon species at λ = 698.223 nm to λ = 778.398 nm, N₂⁺ at λ = 386.685 nm to λ = 445.289 nm, N₂ at λ = 324.768 nm to λ = 377.983 nm, and atomic oxygen spectral triplets at λ = 780.341 nm to λ = 830.867 nm. Moreover, the decrease in the contact angle from 90° to 57° over 60 minutes demonstrates a transition in the composite's surface properties from hydrophobic to hydrophilic. These findings highlight the effectiveness of plasma jet treatment in modifying straw fiber surfaces for improved composite performance, paving the way for broader applications of biodegradable WPC materials.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Educaplay interactive digital media in improving the Higher Order Thinking Skills of grade II elementary school students on the subject of living things. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design type. The subjects of the study were 20 grade II students of SDN Karawang Kulon II. The instruments used were multiple-choice HOTS tests and descriptions based on the revised Bloom's taxonomy, with indicators of analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the posttest score compared to the pretest, with an average increase of 41.1 points and a significance value of 0.001 (p <0.05). The N-Gain value was in the medium to high category (average 0.6867). In addition, the analysis of the quality of the questions showed that most of the questions were difficult and had good discriminating power. These findings indicate that Educaplay is effective in developing students' HOTS skills through interactive, contextual, and fun learning. The implications of this Research encourage teachers to utilize digital media as a learning tool that is not only interesting but also able to stimulate high-level cognitive activities from the elementary education level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze trends in the development of student worksheets in natural and social science learning at the primary school level during the 2019–2025 period. The method used is a literature review with a PRISMA approach applied to 25 selected articles out of 998 obtained through Publish or Perish. The PRISMA approach was implemented to transparently and systematically screen and select relevant articles through a flow diagram consisting of four stages: identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion. The results show that the most dominant learning model used in the development of natural and social science student worksheets is inquiry, followed by discovery learning, STEM, CTL, and the scientific approach. The developed worksheets have been proven effective in improving learning outcomes, conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and scientific literacy, as well as students’ motivation and learning independence. The implications of this study are significant for educators and material developers in designing innovative student worksheets that align with students’ needs, are consistent with the Merdeka Curriculum, and are relevant to the demands of 21st-century learning.
