Abstract

Having premarital sexual intercourse has a broad risk impact on health. This is in accordance with the teachings of Islam that should be upheld by all Muslims, with no exception for students living in Islamic boarding schools. To Islamic values and culture, students should have strong self-efficacy to prevent them from engaging in sexual behavior. This study aims to determine the effect of self-efficacy on the sexual behavior of students living in Islamic boarding schools. This cross-sectional study sampled 150 students who lived in Islamic boarding school in Semarang, Indonesia. Students at Islamic boarding schools who had premarital sex were more likely to be found in adolescents aged 19 years (15.2%), male (9.5%), had low self-efficacy (18.2%), and ever accessed pornography (23.1%). Accessing pornography was influenced by sex (p = 0.021, OR = 0.235), while premarital sexual intercourse behavior was influenced by age (p = 0.013, OR = 10.716) and self-efficacy (p = 0.043, OR = 4.602). Younger students with low self-efficacy are more likely to practice premarital sexual intercourse. This study found that accessing pornography had no effect on the practice of sex carried out by students in Islamic boarding schools. The health ministry needs to work with the religious affairs ministry to design programs aimed at increasing self-efficacy among students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Background: The majority of Indonesians are Muslim (87%) scattered in each province. They celebrated Eid al-Fitr at the end of May 2020 along with the COVID-19 pandemic that has not ended yet. The tradition of celebrating Eid day is contradictive to the COVID-19 transmission prevention efforts that prohibit people from the crowd, prohibit having activities outside of their houses, and limit human mobilization. Even the president has imposed a ban on mudik Lebaran (coming back to hometown) due to the prediction of massive human migration. The handling of the COVID-19 pandemic requires participation of all parties, including the central government, regional governments, local leaders, the private sector, and the whole community. Objective: This study aims to describe the Indonesian Muslim tradition related to the prevention of the transmission of COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This was quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected a day before Eid day. There were 246 Muslims in Central Java province as respondents. Variables in this study were respondent characteristics (age, sex, educational level, occupation, and economic level) and Muslim Eid Al-Fitr tradition such as mudik tradition, Eid shopping needs, silaturahmi tradition, and Eid praying. This study also identified the respondents' practice in preventing COVID-19 transmission. All variables were analyzed descriptively to explain how Muslims conducted their tradition during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: COVID-19 pandemic caused most Muslims not to celebrate Eid as usual. They had to be far away from their families. On the other hand, the tradition to visit the tombs of the ancestors was also maintained by Javanese people and had become a habitual culture. Carelessness and disobedience against health protocols during a pandemic might bring fatal consequences to themselves and others. Conclusion: Most Muslims were discouraged from mudik, silaturahmi, and performing Eid prayer in a congregation in the mosque. They encountered difficulties to keep physical distancing due to people around did not exercise physical distancing for themselves.

Abstract

Background: Children have begun to be exposed to pornography at a very young age, which is 4 years. Intentionally or not, access to pornography has a brain-damaging impact. Pornography damages the human brain worse than drugs. Objective: This study aims to identify behavioral differences in pornography consumption in male and female pupils aged 9-11 years. Method: The research data were obtained by using a survey method for 261 pupils aged 9-11 years who attend public elementary schools in Semarang city. The data were analyzed univariate and bivariate to determine behavioral differences between male and female pupils. Results: There are 53.3% of female and 46.7% of male pupils participated in this study. Most of them are 11 years old (62.8%) and not yet pubescent (79.7%). As much as 30.7% of pupils (16.1% male and 14.6% female) have accessed pornography and 15.4% accessed it intentionally. Almost 7% of pupils access pornography more than 1 minute, by cellular phone (27.6%) and 5.4% frequently access it for more than 5 times a week. There are no significant differences between male and female students in pornography consumption (p=0.095). The government through Health Office should cooperate with schools and families in making educational programs about the dangers of pornography. Parents should control the use of the cellular phone by children. Due to no behavioral difference in pornography consumption, the intervention program provided could be in equal portions between female and male pupils.

Abstract

Background: Similar to teenagers his age, teenagers who live in dormitories also experience sexual attraction and are curious to try new things. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the sexual behavior of adolescents living in dormitories. Methods: The cross-sectional method was used on 147 students using the proportionate random sampling technique. The dependent variable in this study is pupils’ characteristics (sex, age, and puberty status), while the independent variable is the behavior of pornography consumption (content, context, onset, frequency, media, duration, reason, and peer influence). The data obtained were then analyzed by univariate and independent sample t-tests.  Results: Most of the respondents in this study were women (77.6%), aged 19-26 years (71.4%), and diploma graduates (53.7%). There is no correlation between knowledge and attitude about reproductive health toward practicing sexual behavior among adolescents in dormitories. Age and education are related to adolescents' knowledge about reproductive health, while gender affects adolescents' practices in sexual behavior. Conclusion: It suggests improving adolescents’ skills to resist pressure from peers and boy/girlfriends. It is needed to create a safe and supportive environment for adolescent development. A well-rounded educational program should include information about reproductive health, healthy relationships, and communication in relationships. Joint efforts from parents, educators, and the community are needed to create a safe and supportive environment for adolescent development.

Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses the legal dynamics of the dual position of the Mayor of Batam as the Head of BP Batam. The focus of this research emphasizes the implications arising from the policy of Government Regulation No. 62/2019, which requires one individual to hold two strategic positions at once, namely as Mayor of Batam, who is authorized to manage the autonomous region and as Head of BP Batam who is authorized to manage investment and development of the Batam area into a special economic zone. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of this dual position policy. Using empirical legal research methods through interviews, literature review, and qualitative analysis, the findings indicate benefits such as increased synergy between economic development and public services. It allows for better coordination in managing the interests of the city and the industrial estate. However, this dual management structure risks weakening Batam's regional autonomy status and creating conflicts of interest that may affect the objectivity of decision-making. On the one hand, this policy is considered a practical solution to resolve the leadership dualism that has been occurring. On the other hand, this policy creates consequences and challenges. This study concludes that to optimize the benefits and minimize conflicts, it is necessary to harmonize more transparent regulations, more effective supervision, and the commitment of officials to prioritize the public interest for implementing local Government in Batam City.
