Abstract

Indonesians traditionally utilize tamarillo for its various health benefits. However, the lipophilic compounds it contains have the potential to cause hepatotoxicity and increase transaminase enzymes, namely SGPT and SGOT enzymes. The study aimed to test the toxicity of tamarillo ethanol extract acutely on SGPT and SGOT levels in male Wistar white rats. The study used a post-test only experimental design with a control group design. Fifteen rats were randomly divided into five treatment groups. Group K1 as a control was given distilled water, group K2 was given paracetamol 2.5 g/kgBW, while groups K3, K4, and K5 were each given tamarillo ethanol extract in single doses of 200, 400, and 600 mg/kgBW. After 24 hours, rat blood serum samples were taken through the orbital sinus to measure SGPT and SGOT levels using the UV test method. The results showed that the average SGPT levels increased in the K2 group by 295.34±13.31 U/L and K5 by 93.67±19.03 U/L. Meanwhile, the average SGOT levels increased in the K2 group by 874±25.06 U/L, K4 by 164.67±7.57 U/L and K5 by 213.34±13.50 U/L. The One-Way ANOVA test showed a significance value of p=0.000 in the K2 and K5 groups for SGPT, while SGOT in the K2, K4 and K5 groups. Administration of tamarillo ethanol extract can cause liver damage at doses of 400 mg/kgBW and 600 mg/kgBW.

Abstract

Introduction: Gerga orange peel contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, vitamin C, alkaloids, and essential oils that may support wound healing through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity. Objective: To determine the effect of Gerga orange peel extract nanoemulsion gel on wound area changes in male Wistar rats. Method: This post-test-only controlled laboratory experiment included 24 male Wistar rats divided into six groups: negative control, 0.1% gentamicin sulfate positive control, Gerga orange peel extract gel, and Gerga orange peel extract nanoemulsion gels at 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5%. Wound area was measured on days 1, 7, and 14 using ImageJ. Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc tests. Result and Discussion: All groups showed wound area reduction. The greatest median reduction from day 1 to day 7 occurred with 2.5% nanoemulsion (93.340 mm²). The greatest reductions from day 7 to day 14 and day 1 to day 14 occurred with extract gel (149.392 mm² and 175.985 mm²). A significant between-group difference was found only from day 7 to day 14 (p = 0.010). Conclusions: Gerga orange peel extract gel and Gerga orange peel extract nanoemulsion gel reduced wound area, but the most effective nanoemulsion concentration could not be established.

Abstract

Stunting remained a persistent public health problem in Jambi City, and Tanjung Sari Village recorded the highest number of stunted toddlers within its community health center working area. Since Posyandu cadres and mothers of toddlers served as the two key actors responsible for early stunting detection, this study analyzed the knowledge levels of both groups regarding early detection of stunting in that village. A quantitative descriptive design with a cross sectional approach was applied. Total sampling was used to enroll thirty five active Posyandu cadres, while seventy five mothers of toddlers were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, and were analyzed univariately. The results showed that most cadres, sixty eight point six percent, and most mothers, fifty eight point seven percent, had a high level of knowledge. However, both groups demonstrated weaker understanding in specific technical areas, cadres in interpreting child growth curves and mothers in recognizing physical signs of stunting and determining the appropriate timing for complementary feeding. These complementary gaps suggested that generally adequate knowledge alone had not been sufficient to lower the stunting burden in the study area. The findings indicated a need for targeted, technically focused, and jointly delivered training for cadres and mothers to strengthen community based early stunting detection efforts in Jambi City.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Social media has become an effective and easily accessible means of acquiring oral health literacy in the digital era 5.0. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the influence of determinant factors affecting Jambi medical students’ awareness of seeking oral health information on social media. Method: This analytical cross-sectional study analyzed the association between determinant factors affecting Jambi medical students' awareness of seeking oral health literacy on social media. A total of 292 participants were selected using purposive sampling. The instrument was divided into five sections. The second and fifth sections were measured using a Likert scale and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results: The higher the frequency of seeking oral and dental health information through social media, the greater the awareness of seeking oral health information on social media (regression coefficient=0.581; t=10.248; p<0.001). A higher level of trust was also associated with greater awareness of seeking oral and dental health information on social media (regression coefficient=0.431; t=10.314; p<0.001). Respondents with good oral and dental health maintenance behavior were more likely to be positively influenced by oral and dental health information and content on social media (regression coefficient=0.344; t=8.255; p<0.001). Conclusion: Social media plays an important role in shaping individual awareness, particularly when users have high levels of trust and actively seek relevant oral and dental health information. Trust was identified as a key determinant in influencing awareness of oral health literacy on social media.
