Abstract

Coastal areas are unique, dynamic, and complex because they are zones of interaction between land, oceans, and atmosphere. This makes coastal areas the most vulnerable areas on Earth. To find out how big the vulnerability is in a coastal area, a study is needed to determine the vulnerability level of coastal areas and the influencing factors. Research on the coastal vulnerability level at this location was conducted in 2016 and it was concluded that the coastal vulnerability level is in the medium category. With the development of potential utilization in the area, it is necessary to conduct similar research in 2016 to find out if there is a change in vulnerability level between 2016 and 2020. The data used consisted of coastal geomorphology, tidal, Landsat 7 ETM+ and 8 OLI, sea level rise and DEM satellite imagery. Data analysis using Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) method. The results showed the coastal vulnerability level at the research site was in the low-medium category, with a CVI score range of 9,93-25,86. Topography, geomorphology, intensity of shoreline changes, and coastal slope are factors that can cause the vulnerability level at the research site can be very high. However, the interconnectedness between other parameters can inhibit the high level of vulnerability, making the level of coastal vulnerability at the research site to be only in the low-medium category. There was a change in vulnerability level conditions between 2016 and 2020 the level of vulnerability at the east coast decreased to a low category.

Abstract

Energy and electricity demand in Riau Islands is increasing rapidly due to the fast-growing population, urbanization, industrial development, and economic growth. The limitations of energy and electricity in the Riau Islands caused frequent blackouts. To support the high demand for energy and electricity in the Riau Islands, renewable energy is the most suitable alternative energy solution. Renewable energy is not only playing a key role in providing energy but also providing long-term clean and sustainable energy. We investigated the wave energy potential in the Riau Islands Sea in four different consecutive monsoons (North monsoon, East monsoon, South Monsoon and West Monsoon) using ECMWF data during January 2018 to December 2018 with 0.125o x 0.125o and 6 hourly spatial and temporal resolutions. We extracted bathymetry data from NOAA’s database ETOPO1 and forecasting wave characteristics use the SPM (Shore Protection Manual) method. The potential wave energy simulation from significant wave height (Hs) and energy period (Te) was shown in spatial distribution based on different monsoon. Our studies found that the potential wave energy was higher in north monsoon with maximum spatial of wave power density 3.240 – 3.640 kW.m-1. The east monsoon tended to be lower potential wave energy with dominance of wave power density at 0 – 0.127 kW.m-1. Keywords: wave power density, potential wave energy, ECWFM, monsoon

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe sea surface temperature (SST) in Tanjungpinang City waters is very important to know because it is so closely related to climatic conditions. The purpose of this research is to map the spatial characteristics of sea surface temperature in Tanjungpinang City waters on four different seasons (west season, transition 1, east season and transition 2). This research method used spatial analysis based on the visualization of the seasonal mean SST distribution map and temporal analysis of sea surface temperature based on monthly and seasonal SST fluctuations in the form of time series graphs. Data used in this study were monthly SST data and 8 daily composites of NOAA. Daily composite data is used for verification with field temperature data. The results showed that the 2016-2020 SST in the waters of Tanjungpinang City varied every year, which in 2016 was the highest mean temperature was a value of 31.3°C-31.9 °C and in 2020 the lowest mean was 28.5 °C-29.1 °C. The SST value variability in the waters of Tanjungpinang City is influenced by the season, SST in the east season and transition season 1 tends to be higher and increases and SST in the west season and transitional season 2 has decreased. The spatial distribution of SST in nearshore waters tends to be higher than that of SST in far-shore or offshore waters. The relatively high temperature conditions in coastal waters are thought to be due to the effect of warmer land. Keywords: Characteristics, Sea surface temperature, Spatial, Tanjungpinang CityABSTRAK Suhu permukaan laut (SPL) perairan Kota Tanjungpinang sangat penting untuk diketahui karena kaitannya yang begitu erat dengan kondisi iklim.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems have functions and benefits that are quite important both physically and biologically. Mangroves can act as natural coastal protectors from damage due to abrasion and large waves and also provide shelter for associated biota. Development of a mangrove ecosystem that can be developed into a tourism area and an environmental-based education center. Pengudang Village has the potential to be developed into a mangrove ecotourism area with its resources and biodiversity. Development into a mangrove ecotourism area is constrained by public understanding of the types of mangroves, benefits and associated biota in the mangrove ecosystem of Pengudang Village. Community service activities carried out aim to provide understanding to the Pengudang Village community about the potential and types of mangrove resources and associated biota. The activity process begins with a survey of the potential of the mangrove ecosystem including recording, identification, and classification of mangrove species. The introduction and socialization of the condition of the man-grove ecosystem was carried out to the coastal community of Pengudang Village. From the results of field identification, it was found that the mangrove condition of Pengudang Village is in good condition with a dense density. Associated biota in mangrove ecosystems vary from gastropods to mammals. The identification results are disseminated to the Pengudang Village community.

Abstract

Tide is one of the important factors that affect the oceanographic processes around widely as waters flow. Tides also give significant effects against the dynamic of coastal area. This research was conducted considering the importance roles of tides data against all oceanographic phenomenon that gives the effects on activities around the area of coastal waters. This research was conducted around the area of east coast of Bintan Island Riau Archipelago Province in December 2017. Tidal data is retrieved from the global tidal modelling uses MIKE 21. The results of the analysis show the range of tidal height on the east coast of Bintan Island during 2007-2017 is 0.70-3.50 m of height range with the average of mean sea level (MSL) is 2.20-2.60 m. Generally, tidal fluctuations on east coast of Bintan Island form an asymmetric pattern which is a common pattern occurring in any waters. The tidal type of the east coast of Bintan Island is mixed predominantly semi diurnal with the value of formzahl number in each station respectively is 1.19-1.44. The interesting phenomenon obtained from this research is during 2007-2017 the maximum of sea level height in each station tends to decrease, this is considered attractive because over the past 20 years earth surface temperature have tended to increase so that melting of ice in polar has implications for increasing of sea water volume.
