Abstract

Information related to ocean currents is not yet available in Berakit Village waters, ocean currents are an important parameter to determine the condition of a waters. An alternative that can be used to determine the condition of ocean currents is to use hydrodynamic modeling. The purpose of the study was to analyze the distribution pattern and characteristics of surface ocean currents. This research was conducted by conducting 2-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling simulating ocean currents for 1 (one) year in December 2020-November 2021 using MIKE 21 software by sampling in 6 (six) different conditions, namely at the highest tide, lowest tide, high tide. towards the ebb and flow of the full moon, the ebb towards the negligible tide, the tide towards the ebb tide and the ebb towards the negligible tide. The model results were validated by the RMSE formula with a value of 2%, the model results were very good, so that they could be used as a reference in providing an overview of the real conditions of the pattern and current distribution at the research location. The movement of ocean currents at the time of the full moon and negligible dominant currents move towards the south of the waters, while at the time of the full tide and negligible the dominant currents move towards the north of the waters. In the north season, the current velocity ranges from 0.00006 m/s-0.125 m/s with the dominant movement towards the north. East monsoon currents move predominantly north and south with speeds ranging from 0.0000003 m/s-0.129 m/s. In the south monsoon the dominant current moves to the north and south at a speed of 0.0000007 m/s-0.13 m/s. in the west season, the dominant current moves to the north and south at a speed of 0.00001 m/s-0.12 m/s. The speed of the dominant ocean currents is greater at high tide compared to low tide, this is due to differences in sea level elevation in the opposite direction of motion.

Abstract

Ocean currents are the movement of sea water masses in a certain direction caused by several factors, namely wind, tides and bathymetry. Hydrodynamic modeling aims to determine the speed and direction of ocean currents in the waters of Bakau Bay through a two-dimensional model. The current pattern of the north season to the east season is influenced by sea water masses with an average current speed ranging from 0.22-0.24 m/s, while the south season to West season currents with an average speed of 0.04-0.26 m/s, this shows the meeting of different water masses so that the speed and direction of the current results in random or rotating currents. From the calculations of the normality test and anova test, it is known that the field current and model simulation values are normally distributed and there is no significant difference in values in the two data, so based on the RMSE value, it shows that the difference in values between the model simulation results and direct data measurements is relatively small. This also shows that the ocean surface current model created is sufficient to describe actual conditions.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Admiralty, Data Prediksi PUSHIDROSAL, Pasang SurutABSTRACTTides as an aspect of hydro-oceanography have various roles, both in the physical, chemical and biological aspects of waters as well as for the development of coastal areas. Research on the waters around the Tanjungpinang City reclamation area aims to determine the types and patterns and characteristics of the tides in these waters. The method used is a quantitative method. Field data collection was carried out for 15 days with observation intervals every 1 hour. Predictive data from PUSHIDROSAL is also used and then processed using Admiralty 15 Piantan. Accuracy test was carried out using the RMSE method. Based on the research, it was found that the mixed tidal type double daily skewed with formzahl number values ranging from 0.25-1.5. From observations in the field, a value of 0.95 was obtained, while from the PUSHIDROSAL prediction, a value of 1.33 was obtained. The tidal pattern obtained also differs according to the phase of the moon because the observations were made in 2 phases of the moon, namely the half moon and full moon. In addition, tidal harmonic components were also obtained which were dominated by the M2 component and the lowest values were in the M4 and MS4 components. Sea level elevation values were also obtained, namely MSL, LAT, HAT, MHHWS, MHHWN, MLLWS, MLLWN, and TR. The accuracy test yields a value of 0.3 so that it can be said that the predicted data from PUSHIDROSAL can be used as a reference for planning coastal development around the Tanjungpinang City reclamation area. Keywords: Admiralty, PUSHIDROSAL Prediction Data, Tidal

Abstract

Geographically, Mantang Island is situated between the Malacca Strait, Natuna Sea, and Karimata Strait, and is exposed to the open sea, which influences the oceanographic dynamics of the region. The island’s residents are heavily dependent on the sea for their livelihoods, making wind and sea tides crucial for meeting their daily needs. Consequently, this study aimed to measure wind data and sea surface elevation over a 30-day period, with the results visualized using a wind rose diagram. The specific objectives were: 1) to calculate harmonic constants using both the Least Squares and Admiralty methods to obtain FormZahl numbers, 2) to determine the characteristics of sea surface elevation based on each method, and 3) to analyze the relationship between sea surface elevation and wind speed. The findings revealed that the wind in the waters surrounding Mantang Island was primarily influenced by the monsoon, blowing from the west with maximum speeds ranging from 5.70 to 8.80 m/s. Each calculation method produced varying values for sea surface elevation, including Zo, HHWL, LLWL, MHWL, and MLWL, with respective values of 11.99 m, 15.9 m, 8 m, 17.9 m, and 6 m. FormZahl number calculations yielded values of 1.25 and 1.03 using the Least Squares and Admiralty methods, respectively. Despite the differences in the results, both methods indicated a mixed semi-diurnal tidal pattern. To examine the relationship between wind and sea surface elevation, a 6th-order polynomial regression analysis was performed. The analysis revealed a weak correlation, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.21 and a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.30. These values suggest that the model’s predictions were relatively close to actual field conditions.

Abstract

The Indonesian Maritime Continent is highly vulnerable to climate variability and change, as exemplified by tidal flooding events in the Riau Islands from 2022 to 2024. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of sea level dynamics and anomalies associated with tidal flooding (rob) and identify the contributing factors. Data on tidal flooding events were gathered from press and online social media reports, while additional information on significant wave height, ocean currents, and wind was obtained from the CMEMS (Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service) Marine Copernicus archives (marine.copernicus.eu). Observational data from tide gauge stations were also accessed via the IOC sea level monitoring system (ioc-sealevelmonitoring.org). The findings revealed a high probability of tidal flooding during the north wind season, particularly in January and February. Notably, tidal elevations during flooding events reached 3.06 m on January 25, 2023, 3.00 m on February 21, 2023, and 3.09 m on February 12, 2024. These events were driven by a combination of oceanographic and atmospheric factors, including high tidal ranges during spring tides, strong wind speeds averaging 19.04 to 21.43 knots in January–February 2023 and 18.65 knots in February 2024, dominant southward current patterns, and significant wave heights reaching up to 1.08 m. The alignment of the sun, moon, and earth during full and new moon phases amplified gravitational forces, causing elevated sea levels. Furthermore, strong winds during the north wind season contributed to higher wave heights, intensifying flooding impacts. Analysis of current patterns indicates that the highest speeds were recorded during the northern wind season, specifically in January and February, which coincides with the tidal flooding events. The currents predominantly moved southward, aligning with the wind direction during this season. This study reveals oceanographic and atmospheric interactions driving tidal flooding, offering insights for mitigation and adaptation to enhance resilience in vulnerable coastal regions.

Abstract

Sei Enam, which is located in Bintan Regency, is planned to become a modern village whose development is balanced between local culture and sustainable environmental practices (Rizki, 2023). Quantitative data obtained from environmental studies and direct measurements can be used as a measuring tool for assessing the development of tourism and aquaculture areas, with a focus on reporting plankton as a food source, oceanographic conditions and air quality (Azhar & Anuar, 2021). The research results show that the speed and pattern of tidal currents at the research location play an important role in each season in the distribution of water mass at the research location, while high waves are relatively small throughout the season, in line with the results of previous research (Rizal & Anwar, 2021). These air movement patterns play an important role in the distribution of food and nutrient sources in waters (Budiarto & Fathoni, 2019). The results of the land suitability analysis show that Sei Enam has an area of 303.73 Ha, which can be recommended as an area for developing cage-based floating restaurant culinary tourism. With the results of this area, the development of cage-based culinary areas can be carried out on a large scale, but this needs to consider other factors such as shipping lanes and ship docks (Halim & Rizal 2021). The results of the community response showed that 85% agreed with the development plan. The government's role in planning, implementation and commitment to activities is an important factor in sustainable development (Suharto & Astuti, 2020)
