Abstract

Unhealthy diet that consisted of high purine, derived from protein, had caused an increasing hyperuricemia-related disease in community. Anti-oxidant activity of snake fruit‟s peel had antihyperuricemia effect due to the flavonoid content. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ethanol extract of snake fruit‟s peel in reducing uric acid serum & C-Reactive Protein (CRP) level and to find outthe most effective dosage of the activity. The rats were grouped into 6 groups (negative control, positive control, Allopurinol, dosage I (105 mg/kgbw extract), dosage II (210 mg/kgbw) and dosage III (420 mg/kgbw). All, except negative control groups were fed by standard diet pellet mixed with 20 mg/day goat brain for 15 days. Serum uric acid and CRP level of all groups was measured on day 0,9 and 16. The result showed that the uric acid serum level of extract groups was lower than control groups and therewas CRP reduction in extract groups. The most effective dosage for reducing serum uric acid level was 420 mg/kgbw. Keyword : snake fruit‟s peel, uric acid serum, C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

Abstract

Sleep deprivation (SD) can modulate the production of various cytokines, including pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ, and anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10. Paradoxical sleep deprivation (PSD) increases the risk of inflammation but can be relieved by sleep recovery (SR). This study aimed to determine the differences in levels of cortisol and inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, dan IFN-γ) in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) after induction of various sleep deprivation stress models. Twenty-five of male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: control, PSD (20 hours of SD/day for five days), Total Sleep Deprivation or TSD (24 hours of SD/day for five days), PSD+SR (PSD followed by SR), and TSD+SR (TSD followed by SR). The plasma cortisol levels were measured with ELISA, and inflammatory cytokine levels were measured with immunoassay and calculated with fold change. Mean cortisol levels were significantly increased in treatment groups compared to the control group (p=0.029). Multivariate analysis showed no statistically significant difference in inflammatory cytokine levels of IL-6 (p=0.658), IL-10 (p=0.065), TNF-α (p=0.399), and IFN-γ (p=0.283) in all groups. In conclusion, various sleep deprivation stress models affect cortisol levels but not inflammatory cytokine levels of IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, and IFN-γ among male Wistar rats.

Abstract

Background: SOCA is an assessment method which tests students' critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and communication skills. SRL (self-regulated learning) cognitive component is a crucial learning-strategies which is useful in processing and storing information on preparing SOCA. SRL determines presage factors in learning environment change. The learning process has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic, which was originally fully online to PTMT. These environmental changes regulate an important role in the SOCA preparation process; thus, this profile of the learning process is not only prominent for monitoring and evaluating in policy making by institution, but also for self-evaluating by respondents. Objective: To find profile of SRL learning strategies for cognitive components in preparing SOCA from FK Unsoed students’ during limited face-to-face learning method in 2021/2022. Methods: This quantitative-observational-descriptive study uses primary data from a questionnaire "SRL Learning Strategies in Limited Face-to-Face Learning Period" by 199 undergraduate-student (of batch 2019, 2020, and 2021). The results are presented in tables and frequency-distribution diagrams based on the sub-components of learning strategies and frequency of use. Results: Most (70.35%) of the respondents were women with an average age of 19.6 years. The majority of respondents always apply rehearsal learning strategies and quite often apply elaboration, organizing, and critical thinking learning strategies. The smallest proportion of application frequency types is "never". Conclusion: The percentage of implementation of "rarely " and "never" are less than the percentage of implementation of "always" and "often".

Abstract

Background: Mastery of Anatomy is essential to base learning in Medicine. However, the Anatomy identification test scores are often less than satisfactory. This problem could be caused by different usage of sensory modalities which were visual, aural, read/write, and kinaesthetic (V/A/R/K) between one’s study habit and his/her learning style. This study aimed to determine the relationship between Anatomy identification test scores and the suitability in V/A/R/K modality usage between study habits and learning styles.Method: This was an observational study of 103 first year students of the Faculty of Medicine Unsoed who were selected using total sampling, taking into account the inclusion criteria in the form of complete data availability for the three variables. Univariate statistical analyses were conducted for each variable as well as the suitability between study habits and learning style based on determined criteria. Relationship between Anatomy identification test scores and the suitability between V/A/R/K study habits and learning styles was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. Results: Most students had quadmodal learning style (27.2%), but unimodal visual study habit (21.4%). Most (64.1%) students had no suitability between study habits and learning styles, with the test score average was not significantly lower (p = 0.228) than those with suitability. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between Anatomy identification test scores and the suitability between study habits and learning styles. Students may reflect on the result to modify their learning process further. Institution can provide opportunities for students with various characteristics to develop study habits that suit their learning styles.
