Abstract

This Community Service Program (CSP) aims to enhance Islamic financial literacy and investment competencies through an experiential learning approach. The program was implemented through a collaborative partnership between STIE Riau and Pegadaian Syariah involving participants from the community and academic environment. The implementation methods included educational sessions, product socialization, hands-on practice using the Pegadaian Syariah digital application, and interactive discussions on Islamic investment products, particularly Gold Savings and Sharia Rahn contracts. Program evaluation was conducted through participatory observation, assessment of conceptual understanding, and measurement of participants’ practical skills. The results indicate a high level of participant engagement, a significant improvement in digital application usage competence, and a strong understanding of Sharia-compliant investment mechanisms. In addition, participants demonstrated high interest and enthusiasm toward the learning materials delivered. These findings suggest that the experiential learning-based approach and campus–industry collaboration are effective in strengthening Islamic financial literacy and reshaping public perceptions of Pegadaian Syariah as an inclusive and modern Islamic investment platform. This program can serve as a replicable model for community-based Islamic financial education initiatives.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an effective regional marketing management strategy to enhance the tourism competitiveness of Riau Province, Indonesia. Despite its rich natural and cultural tourism potential, Riau has not yet achieved optimal competitiveness compared to other leading destinations. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using purposive sampling, involving 12 informants consisting of government officials, tourism business actors, and local community representatives. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis based on the Miles and Huberman framework. The findings reveal four major issues: (1) tourism marketing strategies remain conventional and lack market orientation, particularly in segmentation, targeting, and positioning; (2) destination branding is weak and inconsistent, resulting in a fragmented tourism image; (3) stakeholder collaboration is limited and characterized by poor coordination and low community involvement; and (4) digital marketing utilization is suboptimal due to limited technological capacity and lack of integrated platforms. These findings indicate a structural gap between tourism potential and marketing management effectiveness. The study concludes that improving tourism competitiveness in Riau requires a comprehensive and integrated approach, including strengthening destination branding, enhancing stakeholder collaboration, and accelerating digital transformation. The research contributes to the literature by emphasizing the importance of marketing system maturity, institutional coordination, and digital readiness in regional tourism development. Practically, the study provides strategic recommendations for policymakers and tourism stakeholders to develop a more competitive and sustainable tourism sector.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates the effects of digital marketing adoption and digital literacy on perceived business performance and examines whether digital literacy strengthens the performance contribution of digital marketing among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Riau Province, Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach – The study used a quantitative, cross-sectional explanatory design. From 320 questionnaires distributed purposively to SME owners and managers in five areas of Riau, 250 valid responses were analyzed. The constructs were measured with multi-item five-point Likert scales. SmartPLS 4 was used to evaluate the measurement and structural models, including an interaction term, with statistical inference based on 5,000 bootstrap resamples and 95% confidence intervals. Findings – Digital marketing adoption positively influenced perceived business performance (β = 0.381, p < 0.001), as did digital literacy (β = 0.429, p < 0.001). Digital literacy also strengthened the relationship between adoption and performance (β = 0.215, p < 0.001), although the interaction effect was small (f² = 0.095). The model explained 61.2% of performance variance and demonstrated predictive relevance (Q² = 0.421). Originality/value – By treating digital marketing adoption as a strategic resource and digital literacy as both an enabling capability and a boundary condition, this study refines the Resource-Based View explanation of SME digitalization. The evidence from an underexamined Indonesian region indicates that access to digital platforms should be accompanied by practical skills in content development, customer interaction, information evaluation, and performance measurement.
