Abstract

Humility has been a neglected virtue in the social and psychological sciences. Owing to the nature of the construct itself, humility poses some special challenges to researchers wishing to assess individual differences. Although there have been significant strides in research in humility, especially in intellectual humility, this research has yet to test measures of humility in non-Western, religious populations. The present study builds on previous research by testing Indonesian versions of humility scales. We measure humility construct based on eight domains identified by Davis and Hook (2014), namely openness/lack of superiority, other-oriented/unselfish, admit mistakes/teachable, interpersonal modesty, accurate view of self, global humility, spiritual humility, and regulate need for status. The data was analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) (N=390). Among 44 items theorized to measure Humility, 8 items do not fit the model and are deemed as not valid, while the other 36 items are valid. The recommendation for future research is to further develop the instrument of humility as some factors still have very few items.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to determine the effect of self-efficacy, religiosity and academic integrity on academic cheating in Pesantren. The population of the research is consisted of students MA. Sample are 332 students and sampling technique is carried out using probability sampling, namely purposive sampling technique. The instrument used were ACS (Academic Cheating Scale), GSE (General Self Efficacy), DUREL (Duke Religion Index), and AIS (Academic Integrity Scale). Data analysis used in this study is multiple linear regression techniques and for the analysis of the construct validity used to measure instrument is Confimatory Factor Analysis CFA. The results of the study show that the effect of the variables of self-efficacy, the dimensions of organizational and dimensions intrinsic to academic cheating which was moderated by academic integrity are significant. Based on the results of the multiple linear regression with academic integrity as the moderator variable, shows that academic integrity has a significant effect or influence on academic cheating and also has a significant influence in moderating one independent variable, namely the organizational dimension to academic cheating. How to Cite Lestari, W. Abstract

This study aims to identify emotions underlying Muslim religious practices/rituals. The sample used in this study consisted of 310 Indonesian Muslim adults from several large cities in Indonesia, using a purposive sampling technique. Participants completed several psychological measurements regarding (1) types of emotions based on Emmons’ theory and (2) religious rituals and contemplative rituals (MAAS). Data was analysed through descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis. The results of this study show that the forms of emotion related to Muslim religious practices are emotions of gratitude, security and fear. Emotions of gratitude underlie fasting, such as Ramadhan fasting and Sunnah fasting, zakat and infaq. The emotion of feeling secure underlies forms of worship that are obligatory, such as Daily Prayer. Last, the form of prayer related to feeling secure is the type of prayer intended to obtain Allah’s protection when humans are experiencing disaster, namely Istisqo prayer, Istikharah prayer, and Eclipse prayer.
