Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of implementing adaptive pedagogical strategies when teaching the Shalat(Islamic prayer) to students with intellectual disabilities. Cognitive limitations and diverse learning characteristics require educators to employ flexible teaching strategies tailored to each student's needs. The study aims to describe the adaptive pedagogical strategies implemented by educators, identify the challenges faced and the solutions adopted, and analyze the impact on students' Shalat proficiency at SLB Sabilillah Cukir. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the school principal, the Islamic Religious Education teacher, and the classroom teacher. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, with validity verified through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that adaptive pedagogical strategies are implemented through demonstrations, the cultivation of worship habits, individual guidance, material repetition, and motivation tailored to the students' characteristics. Challenges encountered include limitations regarding cognition, memory, communication, and motor skills, as well as a lack of worship practice at home. These challenges are addressed through individualized instruction, the use of simple language, consistent habituation, direct demonstration, and collaboration with parents. The implementation of these strategies improves students' proficiency in prayer movements and recitations, fosters worship habits, and boosts student self-confidence in accordance with their individual potential.

Abstract

Gratitude is often treated in schools as a norm to be taught rather than a form of reasoning students actively construct. This study examines how senior high school students build moral reasoning around gratitude for the opportunity to attend school, and interprets that construction through Lawrence Kohlberg's stages of moral development. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving six students (grades X-XII) as primary informants and two Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers as supporting informants at an Islamic boarding-school-affiliated senior high school in Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia. Data were analyzed following the Miles and Huberman model and validated through source and method triangulation and member checking. Findings show that students' gratitude is constructed through six interlocking pathways: recognition of educational benefit, downward social comparison with children who lack access to schooling, the protective and formative experience of the pesantren environment, interaction with teachers and peers, hope for the future, and the disruptive experience of losing school routines during the pandemic. Among these, downward social comparison emerged as the most consistently invoked and generative pathway, and notably, it did not remain a purely cognitive appraisal as reported in prior secular literature, but was actively spiritualized by students into an expression of moral and religious accountability. Mapped onto Kohlberg's framework, students' reasoning clusters predominantly at the conventional level, particularly stage three (interpersonal accord), with selective indications of movement toward stage four (social order maintenance). The study extends the social-comparison-gratitude literature into an Islamic boarding-school context and suggests that schools can deliberately design reflective comparison experiences, rather than leaving this mechanism to incidental disruptions such as a pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the synergy between Islamic habituation and teacher role modeling in implementing the Integrated Islamic School Network (JSIT) curriculum at SMPIT Al-Uswah Surabaya. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Informants were selected purposively and consisted of the principal, an Islamic Education teacher, and a student. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The credibility of the findings was strengthened through methodological triangulation. The results show that curriculum planning is formulated in the School Operational Curriculum, which aligns the Merdeka Curriculum with JSIT distinctive standards and 79 Graduate Competency Standard indicators. Its implementation includes active learning, classroom learning agreements, congregational Duha prayer, communal class mentoring, small-group Islamic Personal Development, Quran memorization programs, and teacher role modeling. This integration is associated with the development of students’ discipline, responsibility, courtesy, consistency in worship, and Quranic competence. The principal finding confirms that implementing the JSIT curriculum cannot be reduced to adding religious content. It requires consistency among the values that are planned, taught, modeled, and experienced by students in everyday school life.

Abstract

Abstract Although the enforcement of student discipline within the framework of child protection regulations has received increasing attention in prior studies, research specifically addressing the role conflict and pedagogical dilemmas of teachers in state secondary schools under Child Protection Law No. 35 of 2014 remains limited. This study aims to analyze the objective reality of student discipline, identify the forms of role dilemmas faced by teachers, and examine teachers' strategies in managing these challenges at SMP Negeri 1 Mojoanyar. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study design, involving school administrators, homeroom teachers, Islamic religious education teachers, and students as informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies, and analyzed using interactive thematic analysis including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with validity tested through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that student discipline is polarized into minor violations (such as tardiness and uniform infractions) and serious violations disrupting the teaching-learning process (such as verbal bullying and truancy). Furthermore, teachers experience role ambivalence and neurotic anxiety regarding potential criminalization, leading to defensive teaching practices. To overcome this, a Humanistic-Dialogic Discipline Management Model was reconstructed, integrating learning contracts, restorative personal communication, role modeling (uswah hasanah), substitutive academic-educative sanctions, and progressive tripartite collaboration among teachers, guidance counselors, and parents. These results contribute to the theoretical development of educational management and expand the understanding of teacher professionalism under legal protection frameworks. The study concludes that balancing pedagogical authority and child protection requires collaborative restorative approaches, and recommends that educational institutions and policymakers establish clear operational guidelines and legal protection mechanisms for educators.
