Abstract

Lecturers in vocational education institutions exhibit unique characteristics in delivering instruction and supporting student learning, particularly in practical classes that emphasize real-world experiences and industry-related skills. This study explores students’ perceptions of lecturers' attitudes and their influence on student engagement in the Forestry Department of the State Agricultural Polytechnic of Kupang. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight students and analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. The findings reveal that key aspects of lecturers' attitudes influencing student engagement include enthusiasm in teaching, fairness in treatment, and supportive responses to students’ questions and mistakes. While no distinctive attitudes specific to vocational lecturers were identified, the study found that students in East Nusa Tenggara possess unique cultural and linguistic traits, which shape their perceptions of lecturers' attitudes. These findings underscore the importance of enhancing the pedagogical competencies of vocational lecturers to create a participatory, equitable, and contextually relevant learning environment, particularly in regions with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Abstract

The Bissoloro Educational Forest, covering an area of 75.12 hectares in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, serves as a natural research site under the stewardship of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Although the forest holds considerable ecological value, comprehensive and systematic data on its faunal diversity are still limited. This study was conducted to explore and evaluate the composition, richness, and community structure of fauna within the area, focusing on three major groups: mammals, reptiles, and birds. Data collection for mammals and reptiles was conducted through both direct sightings and indirect indicators, while avian data were obtained using a 1,700-meter line transect with 17 observation points over a three-day survey period. A total of 39 faunal species were recorded, comprising 4 mammal species, 10 reptile species, and 25 bird species. Among the bird species, Pycnonotus aurigaster was identified as the most dominant, with the highest Importance Value Index (INP) of 38.19%, supported by a relative frequency of 19.61% and relative dominance of 18.58%. The overall bird community diversity, as measured by the Shannon-Wiener index (H'), was 2.59, reflecting a moderate level of biodiversity. The occurrence of endemic and protected species, including top predators and nectar-feeding birds, indicates that essential ecological functions such as pollination and food web dynamics are still maintained. These results highlight the ecological importance of the Bissoloro Educational Forest and its role as a vital site for biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and long-term ecological monitoring in alignment with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) framework.

Abstract

School age is a time when it is prone to various diseases, so it is not uncommon for children to be hospitalized. Being treated in a hospital (hospitalization) is an unpleasant and distressing experience of a child's crisis. Distress during hospitalization can affect health status. Efforts to reduce anxiety are very important when the child has not been treated as a preventive measure. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase children's knowledge about techniques to reduce hospitalization distress. The method used is health education with the role play method. The number of activity participants was 15 grade 4 elementary school students. Evaluation of the activity using pre and posttest scores. There was an increase in the mean score from the pre-test which was categorized quite good (53.4%) to be good at the posttest score (86.7%). Health education with the role play method can increase the knowledge of elementary school students to minimize negative experiences when the child is hospitalized. The introduction of the hospital environment from an early age can be applied as a pre-hospital effort to provide an overview of children's knowledge about hospital care procedures.

Abstract

Water is a vital resource, yet its quality is increasingly affected by climate change and human activities. Seasonal variations, particularly between dry and rainy periods, may influence river water quality, with pH serving as a key chemical parameter. This study aimed to examine the effect of seasonal differences on river water pH levels using meta-analysis. The objective was to provide evidence of whether rainfall patterns significantly alter pH concentrations in tropical and subtropical regions. Relevant literature was collected from online databases using keywords such as “water pollution,” “dry season,” and “wet season.” Out of more than 40 studies, four articles with complete seasonal pH data were selected. Data were processed using OpenMEE software with a random-effects model, and the log response ratio (lnRR) was applied to compare pH values between dry (control) and rainy (treatment) seasons. The analysis revealed no significant seasonal differences in pH levels. The overall effect size was weak (–0.758), with the 95% confidence interval crossing zero. Heterogeneity among studies was high (I² = 80.325%), yet subgroup analyses by region, climate, and location confirmed consistent results. In conclusion, river water pH in tropical and subtropical areas remains relatively stable across seasons, influenced by steady climate conditions, well-mixed water bodies, and consistent vegetation. Broader datasets, especially from Indonesia, are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract

Forests store biomass and carbon in the form of living trees, forest floor detritus (e.g. litter falls), soil and wood products. This study describes inventory results of the above ground biomass of teak (Tectona grandis L.f.). By determining the site condition and developing allometric method, the inventory was designed to estimate the potential of above ground biomass of teak. This study aims to determine the characteristics or site qualities, carbon stock and find out whether the characteristics of the soil has a high or low correlation to the carbon stored in teak forest in Taman Wisata Alam Camplong, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Carbon stored in teak forests are 45.53 ton/ha and 104.35 ton/ha for IV and V age classes, respectively. The correlation between soil characteristics and carbon stock is obtained that the P and K soil has a positive correlation to carbon stock in the teak forest. The equation model for the relationship between growing conditions and aboveground carbon stocks is Y=25.182-4.149X1-172.231X2 + 2.046X3 + 32.711X4 + 0.297X5-28.330X6-1.746X7 +0.171X8.
