Abstract

This study aims to investigate the extent to which students comprehend and solve problems grounded in mathematical literacy. This research adopts a descriptive method with a qualitative approach to portray students’ comprehension in addressing mathematical literacy tasks. Students’ understanding is analyzed based on three indicators proposed by Ruseffendi: translation, interpretation, and extrapolation. The data collection techniques employed in this study include written tests and interviews. The written test is used to assess students’ mastery of the material, while interviews are conducted with selected participants to gain deeper insight into how they comprehend and solve the given problems. The study was conducted at SMP Lab Jenggawah, involving four student participants—two identified as having high mathematical ability and two with low mathematical ability. Students with high mathematical ability exhibited a strong level of comprehension, as demonstrated by their achievement across all three indicators: translation, interpretation, and extrapolation. Conversely, students with low mathematical ability tended to display limited comprehension, as they were only able to reach the levels of translation and interpretation, without attaining the extrapolation stage. Students with lower levels of mathematical ability encountered challenges such as limited comprehension of the contextual aspects of literacy-based problems and inaccuracies in performing calculations, especially at the extrapolation stage. These findings underscore the necessity of reinforcing instructional strategies that effectively foster mathematical literacy, with adaptations aligned to students’ varying levels of proficiency.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is to identify geometric patterns that may be hidden within the dimensions, shapes, and orientations of the dolmens. Overall, the objective is to identify, analyze, and understand the ethnomathematical concepts embedded in the dolmens at the Duplang Site. The specific aims include documenting the dimensions, comparing them with other sites, and interpreting their cultural significance. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic approach. The research methods involve direct observation, documentation, interviews, visual analysis, and precise measurements using a measuring tape. The outcomes of this exploration are expected to make a significant contribution to our understanding of the cognitive abilities of prehistoric communities. The main outputs include a comprehensive research report and the identification of unique mathematical patterns such as hidden geometries

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of classroom management in supporting successful mathematics learning, particularly in the context of inclusive education, which demands adjustments to learning strategies according to student characteristics. This study aims to describe the initial conditions of mathematics learning, the implementation of simple learning media, and their impact on student interaction and activeness. The approach used was descriptive qualitative with one mathematics teacher and three seventh-grade students in a junior high school as subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out through the stages of reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that initial learning was still dominated by lecture methods with limited media, resulting in low student participation. The implementation of the number card media was proven to increase student engagement and interaction. Although students initially showed hesitation, they became more active and enthusiastic after becoming accustomed to using the media. These findings indicate that simple learning media can be an effective strategy to improve the quality of mathematics learning, especially in conditions of limited facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

Classroom management is a fundamental aspect in creating a conducive learning environment, especially in mathematics learning in inclusive education. This study analyzes classroom management practices by 10th grade mathematics teachers at SMK Trunojoyo Jember, and their impact on learning engagement and effectiveness. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data collection was conducted through five days of observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, and documentation studies. The results showed that the implementation of classroom management strategies such as U-shaped seating arrangements, humanistic communication, collaborative learning, and gamification-based positive reinforcement significantly increased student participation, from 25% to 75% of active groups. The implementation of peer support and individual learning adaptations also increased accessibility and engagement of students with special needs. Despite infrastructure limitations, teacher creativity and professionalism play an important role in maintaining learning effectiveness. This study concluded that adaptive, inclusive, and positive communication-based classroom management contributes to increased student motivation, participation, and mathematics learning outcomes.
