Abstract

Abstract

Ginger has benefits to reduce the development of dental plaque because it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Active compounds in elephant ginger, such as gingerol, shogaol, and zingerone, can inhibit the growth of plaque-causing bacteria. Using elephant ginger solution as a mouthwash can help reduce plaque accumulation on the surface of the teeth. This study aims to determine the Effect of Gargling with Boiled Water of Elephant Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Var. Officinarum) on Dental Plaque in Class X Students of Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Khairiyah, Banjar Regency. This type of research is analytical with quasi-experimental using the One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The sampling technique used Total Sampling with a sample size is 46 students. Data analysis using Paired Sample T-test. The results of this study obtained plaque on students before garfling with boiled water elephant ginger is 2,124. While the plaque after gargling with boiled water of elephant ginger is 1,520. Based on the results of statistical analysis with paired sample T-Test, it produces ???? = 0.000 so that it is smaller than α = 0.05. In conclusion, there is an effect of gargling with boiled water of elephant ginger (Zingiber Officinale Var. Officinarum) on dental plaque in class X students of Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Khairiyah Banjar Regency. It is recommended for all students to be able to use elephant ginger as an alternative mouthwash to help reduce plaque on teeth.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic, non-communicable disease but is one of the global health challenges. The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in South Kalimantan has increased every year. This can be seen from the increase in the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in 2013 by 1.4% to 1.80% in 2018. Cases of Diabetes Mellitus in 2019 were at 67,783 cases, and in 2020 increased to 122,919 cases, with the number of cases in the Banjar Regency area being 5829 cases in 2022. This study aims to determine the description of the severity of periodontal tissue in patients with diabetes mellitus at the East Martapura Community Health Center, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. This type of research is descriptive research. The population in this study amounted to 30 people with a sampling technique using purposive sampling. The study found that 33.3% of diabetes mellitus patients experienced periodontal disease, with tartar deposits, 23.3% shallow pockets, and 43.3% deep pockets. The study concluded that the most common periodontal disease severity among diabetes mellitus patients at the East Martapura Community Health Center was deep pockets measuring 4-5 mm. It is recommended that individuals improve their oral hygiene practices to prevent further damage

Abstract

South Kalimantan has seen a significant rise in dental and oral health issues, particularly periodontal diseases, which are prevalent among diabetic patients. This research aimed to analyze the periodontal status and the corresponding treatment needs of the Prolanis group, consisting of diabetic mellitus (DM) patients, at Sungai Ulin Health Center and South Banjarbaru Health Center, Banjarbaru City, during the second year of the study. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed to assess the periodontal tissue condition using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN). A total of 65 respondents were examined, and the results indicated that 49.23% of the participants had tartar, while 30.78% displayed healthy periodontal conditions. Counseling on oral hygiene and scaling treatments were provided. The study emphasizes the importance of regular dental check-ups and proper oral hygiene practices, particularly in diabetic patients, to prevent further complications. Recommendations include brushing teeth twice daily and reducing the intake of cariogenic foods.

Abstract

Dental caries remains a major public health concern, particularly among children, with various factors influencing its development, including nutritional statusThis study examines the relationship between stunting and saliva pH as a risk factor for dental caries in children. Conducted in Hulu Sungai Utara District, South Kalimantan Province, it involved 121 elementary school students through total sampling. Data collection included height-for-age measurements to classify stunting and saliva pH analysis using a digital pH meter. Statistical analysis via the Mann-Whitney U test revealed that stunted children had significantly lower saliva pH (mean: 5.794) compared to non-stunted children (mean: 6.927), with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). These findings suggest that stunting may impair salivary gland function, leading to decreased saliva pH and increased susceptibility to dental caries. This study underscores the need for targeted interventions to improve dental health and nutrition in stunted populations.
