Abstract

Hypertension is known as the silent killer or deadly disease in secret because it has no specific signs and symptoms. Coffee consumption has historically been considered to have a negative effect on the body and is often linked as a factor that can lead to high blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between coffee consumption and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The design in this study used a cross-sectional study. Respondents of this study were 36, taken using a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling with inclusion criteria: consuming coffee and being willing to be respondents; and exclusion: had a history of other chronic diseases such as endocrine disorders. Data collection using a questionnaire and Spearman correlation statistical test. The results showed that there was a relationship between coffee consumption and blood pressure, respondents consumed the most coffee in the mild and moderate category with the majority of blood pressure being stage 1 hypertension. The results of the Spearman correlation test concluded that there was a relationship between coffee consumption and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The correlation coefficient (r) of this study shows positive results, namely 0.424, which means that there is a strong enough relationship between coffee consumption and blood pressure. The increasing frequency of coffee will further increase the increase in blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that can cause various serious complications and requires appropriate treatment. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as warm immersion hydrotherapy can be used to help lower blood pressure. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of warm immersion hydrotherapy on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Method: The method used was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest design without a control group. The intervention was carried out by soaking the feet or lower body in warm water for 15–20 minutes. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Result: The results showed a decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after warm immersion hydrotherapy. Conclusion: It can be concluded that warm immersion hydrotherapy is effective as a complementary therapy in helping to lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels and a risk of various complications, thus requiring proper management. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as foot exercises and warm water soaking with ginger can be used to help control blood glucose levels and improve peripheral circulation. Objective: To determine the effect of the combination of foot exercises and warm water soaking with ginger on changes in blood glucose levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: This study used a case study design with a one-subject pre–post intervention approach. The subject was a patient with Diabetes Mellitus. The intervention consisted of foot exercises and warm water soaking with ginger, administered routinely for seven days. Blood glucose levels were evaluated on day 1, day 3, and day 7. Results: Blood glucose levels remained high on day 1 and day 3 but decreased on day 7, although they had not yet reached normal levels. In addition, the patient reported increased comfort, reduced tension in the lower extremities, and improved peripheral circulation. Conclusion: The combination of foot exercises and warm water soaking with ginger has the potential to be a complementary therapy in helping to reduce blood glucose levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus, but it still needs to be combined with medical therapy and a healthy lifestyle.
