Abstract

Education is crucial for the development of the nation's youth, as it enables the cultivation of bright, skillful, and well-rounded generations. A nation's requisite intelligence encompasses both cognitive and interpersonal dimensions. In this instance, public speaking constitutes an engaging and instructive communicative endeavor, employing succinct, dense, and lucid language. Effective public speaking can leave a favorable impression on the audience. Given that a relationship between the speaker and the audience is inevitable in public speaking, it is essential to prepare well to attain the intended outcome. Consequently, an enhanced learning model is requisite to augment students' public speaking abilities, one approach being the use of the Time Token learning paradigm. This study aims to enhance public speaking skills through the Time Token learning approach in class VIII5 at SMP Negeri 17 Ambon. This study employs classroom action research.

Abstract

Abstract

Politeness in language is a crucial factor in influencing pupils' linguistic development and character formation. Consequently, it is imperative to consider the dimension of politeness in pupils' linguistic expressions. This study seeks to delineate the deviations and adherence to the standards of linguistic politeness observed in class discussions among Class VIII students at SMP Negeri 7 Ambon. This study involved 33 kids from the eighth grade. The employed data collection methods included observation, interviews, recording, field notes, and documentation. The research findings indicate two categories of linguistic politeness: compliance with politeness rules and discourse, encompassing four debates with a total of 17 utterances, wherein all forms of maxims were identified. The second category encompasses transgressions from the standards of linguistic courtesy in discourse, categorized into three maxims and three utterances. The research findings indicate that the maxim most commonly violated is that of wisdom and appreciation, observed in breaches of the courtesy principle during discussions among Class VIII students at SMP Negeri 7 Ambon.

Abstract

Sociolect is a highly debated subject that necessitates much time for discussion. Sociolect refers to the linguistic variation employed by a specific social group. This research study is about the use of sociolects in the Nuwewang Village community, Letti District, Southwest Maluku Regency. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of sociolects in the Nuwewang Village community, Letti District, Southwest Maluku Regency. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation techniques, interviews, recordings and field notes. The data analysis techniques of this study are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that there are four types of sociolects consisting of fifteen vulgar language data, five slang language data, twenty-five colloquial languages, and twelve jargon language data.

Abstract

This research study analyzes the varieties and roles of diarki in traditional wedding ceremonies in the hamlet of Rumahlewang Besar, Pulau Wetang District, West Southwest Maluku Regency. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on the words and sentences present in the diarki during traditional wedding ceremonies. This study employs five data gathering techniques: observation, interviews, recording, field notes, and documentation. The employed data analysis procedures include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion formulation. This study's findings reveal the existence of five diarki employed in the traditional wedding ritual of Rumahlewang Besar hamlet, located in the Pulau Wetang District of West Southwest Maluku Regency. Among the five diarchies present in the traditional wedding ceremony, one category of folk song, specifically the lyrical folk song, does not constitute a true diarki: folk songs pertaining to courtship and matrimony. Singing at traditional wedding ceremonies has two functions: it validates cultural norms and institutions, and it acts as a projective system that reflects communal desires. Among these two purposes, the predominant one is the validation of cultural norms and institutions.
