Abstract

The problem of food security has always been an important and urgent concern for Indonesia. The greater uncertainty in food production, greater price volatility, increased demand due to population growth and rising incomes, uncertain climate change, and natural disasters are still latent problems. Strategic, sustainable, and comprehensive efforts that can overcome these challenges must be immediately carried out to ensure the availability of sufficient and equitable food availability. This article reviews the role of Bulog as a state-owned enterprise (SOE) established to ensure the availability and security of domestic food. With the presence of Bulog, it is hoped that food availability will be maintained at any time and place at affordable prices, especially for low-income households. Comprehensive food and agriculture policies that can respond to future challenges must be followed up in the form of policy implications in each sector and the implications of various relevant institutions. The food security system must be created based on efficient food self-sufficiency and optimal levels of buffer stocks. For this reason, the government must provide adequate policy support so that food self-sufficiency can be realized and Bulog can function optimally.

Abstract

Food security in Indonesia is still experiencing problems, especially in the West Java region, starting from the problem of food availability and the ability of the community to meet food needs. The goal of food security is access for every household or individual to obtain food for the purposes of a healthy life with requirements for receiving food in accordance with prevailing values or culture by taking into account socio-economic conditions, access and availability of food. This study describes the condition of food security in the West Java Region as an implementation of food security policies issued by the Regional Government of West Java. This study uses a qualitative method. The data collected is sourced from primary and secondary data. The primary data comes from interviews with informants, including the heads of farmer groups, millers, rice and grain marketers and related agencies at the provincial level of West Java. Secondary data is sourced from the West Java Province Agriculture and Food Crops Office, the West Java Provincial Food Security Agency, and the West Java Regional Division of Bulog (Divre). The results of the study show that the food security policy of the West Java regional government in realizing food security has not made any significant changes to the yields of food crops obtained in West Java, even though the Regional Regulation of West Java Province No.  4 of 2012 concerning Regional Food Independence and other policies has been enacted in terms of food policy.

Abstract

Public speaking skills offer numerous advantages in enhancing achievement and prestige. Individuals with adept public speaking abilities often garner accolades for their achievements. Moreover, within societal contexts, those proficient in public speaking are more likely to secure esteemed positions and leadership roles. Consequently, mastery of public speaking holds paramount importance in an individual's life. Aspiring teachers, especially students, must possess the capability to effectively communicate, present, and engage in public speaking activities. This study employs a quantitative approach through experimental research methods, utilizing a combined one-group pretest-posttest design. Public speaking proficiency is assessed through video-recorded practice tests, with peer evaluations focusing on content mastery, systematic presentation, performance aspects (body language, facial expressions, poise, confidence, composure, and attire appropriateness), fluency, and language usage. The pretest score averaged 2.45, while the posttest score averaged 3.65, yielding an N-Gain of 0.77. This supports the hypothesis that differences exist in students' public speaking abilities before and after employing the performance assessment-based collaboration model. The data affirms the effectiveness of the collaboration model in enhancing students' public speaking skills.

Abstract

Migrant worker evacuation strategies are vital for ensuring safety and operational continuity in high-risk sectors, particularly the oil and gas industry. Despite global safety policies, significant challenges in implementing effective evacuation strategies remain, as demonstrated by an Indonesian oil and gas company operating in Algeria and Iraq. Issues such as unclear protocols, limited resources, and poor inter-party coordination persist. This study utilizes a conceptual approach to examine the evacuation management strategies for migrant workers in these high-risk environments through a qualitative multiple case study approach, including interviews, focus group discussions, and AI-driven data analysis. The research identifies strengths in legal frameworks, planning, and technology, but also highlights critical gaps in evaluation, resource allocation, and organizational coordination. These gaps require more integrated and adaptive strategies. The study underscores the importance of communication, digital technology, and robust data protection in improving evacuation efficiency while safeguarding privacy. This research contributes to risk and crisis management literature, offering practical insights for multinational companies in the oil and gas sector. By optimizing migrant worker evacuation strategies, companies can enhance safety, operational sustainability, and crisis resilience, ultimately leading to more comprehensive and effective evacuation plans for their workforce in complex, high-risk environments.
