Abstract

Streptococcus mutans is one of the constituent micro-organisms of dental plaque. These bacteria adhere to the denture base causing plaque that causes denture stomatitis. To reduce the growth of S.mutans, cleaning is done by brushing and soaking with herbal ingredients that can inhibit the growth of these bacteria, namely ajwa dates (Phoenix dactylifera L.). This study dis-cusses the inhibition and minimum killing power of ADE on the growth of S.mutans through experimental tests with disc diffu-sion and dilussion techniques with post test group type using 24 samples. The results of the Anova test obtained p-value= 0.000 (p<0.05), meaning that there is a significant difference between ADE treatments of 1.5625%, 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25% and 50%. It is concluded that the MIC value of EKA is 12.5% while the MKC value of EKA is 50%.

Abstract

Introduction: Removable dentures are either whole or partial. Fixed dentures are firmly affixed to the patient's teeth. Dentures reduce functional problems caused by tooth loss, but many individuals don't realize how crucial cleaning them is. Long-term denture use can hinder the tongue and saliva's cleaning of the dental mucosa. Thus, Candida albicans cling better to denture bases and primary agen in candidiasis oral. Aloe vera leaves contain six antimicrobial compounds that prevent the growth of various fungi, bacteria, and viruses, including Candida albicans and Staphylococcus pyogen. Objective: Knowing the effect of aloe vera extract (Aloe vera) with a concentration. Methods: The research method is True Experimental Laboratory, which uses a research design in post-test-only control groups. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to analyze and interpret the research data results, and the Mann-Whitney U test was used as a follow-up analysis. Results: The normality test results showed a p-value of 0.033 in the control group of aquades smaller than 0.05. This proves that the control equates are generally not distributed because the p-value is smaller than 0.05 (p-value 0. The p-value 0.05 was obtained in the control group, proving that the control group is normally distributed. In the homogeneity test, a p-value of 0.000, smaller than 0.05, is obtained. This proves that the test data results in the control and treatment groups are not homogeneous. Conclus inhibits the development of Candida albicans in heat-cured acrylic resin.

Abstract

Background: Suboptimal denture cleaning methods present a problem for denture users, leading to the buildup of bacteria and fungi on the denture base. Streptococcus mutans is a bacterium involved in plaque formation, while Candida albicans is the most abundant fungus in the oral cavity. Ajwa date seeds, with a concentration of 3.25%, have been shown to strongly inhibit the growth of both bacteria and fungi. This study utilizes effervescent tablets containing Ajwa date seed extract. Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of immersing effervescent tablets containing Ajwa date seed extract on the growth of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans on acrylic resin. Methods: The research employed a True Experimental design with a Post Test Only Control Group. A spectrophotometer was used to measure bacterial and fungal growth, and various concentrations of the extract in effervescent tablet preparations were tested. Alkaline peroxide was used as a positive control, while distilled water served as a negative control. Results: The One-Way ANOVA test showed that the smallest bacterial count was observed in the alkaline peroxide group (0.008) and the 13% extract concentration group (0.011). The largest bacterial count was observed in the distilled water group (0.065). The smallest fungal count was also observed in the alkaline peroxide group (0.022), while the largest fungal count was recorded in the distilled water group (0.210). Conclusion: The One-Way ANOVA test revealed significant differences in the number of bacteria and fungi based on the treatment groups.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Previous studies concluded that Ajwa date (Phoenix Dactylifera L.) seed extract significantly reduced the roughness of acrylic resin plates used as denture bases, and has the potential to be used as a raw material for denture cleaning tablets. Several previous studies also showed that Ajwa date seeds contain various secondary metabolites, such as phenolic compounds and flavonoids, which have the potential as antioxidants and other bioactive agents. However, most of these studies were still limited to the use of specific analytical methods separately, such as phytochemical screening or chromatographic analysis, without a comprehensive integrated approach. Objective: To identify the levels of active secondary metabolites in ethanol extract of Ajwa date seeds using a comprehensive method with phytochemical screening, UV-Vis, FTIR, and GC-MS. Results: Ajwa date seeds were found to contain alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, and saponins. UV-Vis analysis showed consistent levels of polyphenols, tannins, and flavonoids. FTIR analysis showed that Ajwa date seeds are a rich natural source of polysaccharides, lipids, and phenolic compounds, and GC-MS results revealed various secondary metabolites detected at various retention times, rich in essential fatty acids, esters, and phenolic derivatives. All test methods were repeated three times. Conclusion: The combination of the four analytical methods complemented each other in identifying and confirming the presence of secondary metabolites in Ajwa date seed extract, thus providing a comprehensive picture of its chemical composition and potential bioactivity. Keywords: Ajwa date seeds, Phytochemical screening, UV-Vis, FTIR, GC-MS

Abstract

Abstract

The dissolution time test aims to determine the length of time it takes for effervescent tablets to dissolve in a solvent medium. Effervescent tablets made from cocoa bean shells (Theobroma cacao L.) contain flavonoids, saponins, and catechins, which prevent pellicle adhesion and glucan formation by Strepto-coccus mutans, thereby inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans on acrylic resin dentures. This study discusses the dissolution time of KBK effervescent tablets with a concentration of 6.5%. This study is a true experimental study using 16 samples of effervescent tablets tested with a disintegration tester after immersion in distilled water. The results showed that the average dissolution time of KBK tablets was 133 seconds with a standard deviation of 8.07, while that of alkaline peroxide effervescent tablets was 191.38 seconds with a standard deviation of 6.80, indicating a significant difference (p-value 0.000; <0.05). It was concluded that cocoa fruit peel extract tablets had a faster dissolution time than alkaline peroxide effervescent tablets.
