Abstract

The phenomenon of online gambling has seen significant growth in Indonesia, including in Serang City, particularly amid economic pressures. This study aims to explore in depth how the people of Serang City use online gambling as an economic escape. A qualitative approach was employed with a case study method, involving in depth interviews with 15 participants who actively engage in online gambling. The results indicate that online gambling is seen as an economic alternative due to financial pressures, limited job opportunities, and easy access to technology. The study also reveals the presence of addiction cycles and social vulnerability resulting from this practice. These findings are interpreted through the lens of Strain Theory (Merton) and Rational Choice Theory, which explain individual actions in response to economic constraints. The implications of this research suggest the need for strengthened digital literacy, law enforcement, and community-based interventions.

Abstract

The infestation of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) results in the reduction of flour weight, changes in flour color, and a musty odor in stored materials. One alternative control method is using patchouli extract (Pogostemon cablin), which has insecticidal activity. The extraction methods and the application techniques in controlling storage pests influence the effectiveness of the extract as a botanical insecticide. The study aims to examine the differences in yield, composition, content, toxicity, and repellency levels of patchouli extracts obtained using various extraction methods for controlling T. castaneum. The study employs three patchouli extraction methods: maceration, steam-water distillation, and ultrasonic extraction. Three application techniques are used in this study: fumigation, topical and residue. The observed variables include the content and composition of the extraction yield, toxicity levels, and repellency levels. Data analysis is performed using probit analysis to determine LD/LC50 and LD/LC95, and ANOVA at 5% level, followed by Tukey’s test. The research results indicate that the extraction method assisted by ultrasonic waves yields the highest extraction yield. However, patchouli extract obtained through the distillation method exhibits the highest toxicity effects when applied with topical and residue techniques. The LC50 and LC95  values of patchouli extract obtained via distillation are 0.804% and 1.541% while the LD50 and LD95 values are 49.140 μg/imago and 135.729 μg/imago. The main compounds found in patchouli extract obtained through distillation are patchouli alcohol, α-guaiene, δ-guaiene, and seychellene. Patchouli extract obtained through distillation has the potential to act as a contact insecticide and repellent against T. castaneum.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of character education in science (IPA) learning based on Islamic civilization at MAN 1 Ogan Komering Ulu Selatan. The research aims to analyze how Islamic values and the legacy of Muslim scholars are embedded in science instruction to foster students’ moral and intellectual development. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews with teachers, students, and school leaders, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the integration of ayat kauniyah, the contributions of Muslim scientists such as Al-Jazari and Banu Musa, and value-based practices effectively promote character traits including religiosity, honesty, responsibility, and environmental awareness. Teaching strategies such as storytelling, role modeling, and habituation support the internalization of Islamic values within the science curriculum. However, challenges persist, including limited teacher capacity, inadequate learning resources, insufficient facilities, and low parental involvement. The study concludes that a holistic, tawhid-based approach to science education can cultivate insan kamil—individuals who are both scientifically competent and morally upright.

Abstract

This study explores the role of digital leadership in educational institutions as a strategic driver for effective media management in 21st-century science education. The research aims to identify key strategies through which school leaders can leverage digital tools to enhance teaching quality, foster innovation, and improve student outcomes. Using a systematic literature review, ten relevant studies were analyzed to understand the implementation, challenges, and impacts of digital leadership. The findings reveal that digital leadership is not merely the adoption of technology but a transformative process involving vision, infrastructure development, teacher empowerment, and systemic change. Effective leaders facilitate the integration of innovative media such as Canva-based video learning and gamified Learning Management Systems, contributing to the development of critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity (4C skills). However, challenges persist, including inadequate digital infrastructure—only 35% of vocational schools have sufficient facilities—and limited digital literacy among educators. Successful implementation requires proactive leadership, policy support, continuous training, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The study concludes that digital leadership is essential for creating adaptive, inclusive, and future-ready learning environments in science education.
