Abstract

Slang is a style that is both socially privileged and confidential. Slang used as a lingua franca. Slang vocabulary can be a shortening of the word, the use of the word natural given new meaning or an entirely new vocabulary and changing. In addition, the hose can also be a reversal of sound, vocabulary commonly used in society to be strange, funny, and even di?erent from the true meaning. Almost all the people who were in this world has its slang, respectively. Community native speakers of Japanese slang split into several types, among others; Ryuukou Go (jargon), or Kuse Cant Go, Argot, Collaqial (Gen Go Sei Katsu), and Wakamono Kotoba. Slang in Japan can be found in everyday conversation and some are used in print as in the comics. Keywords: slang used, young people, relationships

Abstract

politeness. It can be seen from the choice of di?erent vocabulary selected for use by speakers in accordance with the context of use (place, time, and hearer). Politeness not only be seen from the speech (verbal), but is also reflected in the movements (nonverbal) speakers. This paper aims to express politeness both verbal and nonverbal language in the service implemented by the waiter at the shopping center ISETAN Urawa, Japan in serving visitors. This research is a descriptive case study using the techniques in interviews and direct observation in data collection. The results showed that the waiters in ISETAN Urawa, Japan utilizing both verbal and nonverbal means to bring civility to the partner language he said that the visitors of the shopping center. In addition, the waiters previously have received adequate training before being assigned to serve the visitors. There is a cultural concept that is invisible behind it that is appreciated meeting with other people (? ? ? ? ichi go ichi e). Key words: politeness verbal, nonverbal politeness, ISETAN

Abstract

This paper focuses its discussion about tenses in Japanese language. Di?erent from Indonesian language but similar to English language, the Japanese language also has tenses in its grammar categories. The mastering of this grammar category namely tense in Japanese is an essential element for Japanese language learners so that they can be able to produce accurate Japanese sentences which will never be misunderstood by their listeners or readers. Abstract

This paper focuses its discussion about loanword phonology in Japanese language. Loanword phonology is one of five contact phonology situations that was described by Smith (2007). The four other situations are areal influence, dialect mixing, language mixing, and simplification. Japanese language has been borrowing many words from foreign languages. One of those foreign languages is English. As we all know that both languages, Japanese and English, have different phonological system. Therefore, borrowed words of English language has been adapted to fit the phonological patterns of Japanese language. This adaptation could solve the loanword phonology problem. And because up until now the number of loanword in Japanese language is till limited so the phonological system of Japanese language is remain unaffected. In other words, the loadwords’ phonology does not cause lasting changes in the phonological system of Japanese language.

Abstract

Kanji ability of Japanese Department students, Faculty of Arts, Udayana University namely the third-year students and the second-year students is measured by a test on Kanji mastery. This test measures 12 aspects of Kanji mastery ranging from the mastery of meaning, word structure, form, writing, to how to read Kanji’s onyomi. The third-year students have stopped receiving Kanji lecture while the second-year students are still getting Kanji lecture. The test results indicate that there is a relevancy between Kanji lecture and the average ability increasing in Kanji mastery aspects of the students. The increasing on the scale value of the test results by the third-year students is only on 3 aspects i.e. only 25% of the total Kanji mastery aspects. Meanwhile, in the second-year students is as much as 7 aspects i.e. 58% of the total Kanji mastery aspects measured. The weak aspect of Kanji mastery that needed to be increased in both classes is the aspect of how to read the Kanji’s onyomi. This aspect can be trained by utilizing the communication and information technology (CIT) of Japanese language learning that has been available online namely the Kanji-en site. The Kanji-en site has Kanji exercises that emphasize the aspect of Kanji onyomi reading so that it is suitable to be used in improving the Kanji ability of Japanese Department students, Faculty of Arts, Udayana University. By using an interactive learning media that is available in this site, surely it can increase the motivation and spirit of Japanese language learners, especially in the field of Kanji mastery.

Abstract

Following the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, Japanese language education at the high school / vocational level (SMA / SMK) in Bali faces a significant challenge. The lack of thorough understanding and communication caused the teachers to feel that the Merdeka Curriculum was less friendly to the Japanese language class hours in their schools. This article aims to describe the problems encountered in SMA / SMK in Bali related to Japanese language education not only in terms of policies in the form of the curriculum but also from the side of schools, teachers, and students. The data collection method uses a google survey form followed by an unstructured interview. The study in this article is included in the qualitative grounded theory research. Based on the research results, the problems faced by Japanese language education in SMA / SMK in Bali can be grouped into four categories: curriculum in SMA / SMK, school support, teacher ability, and student enthusiasm. It requires a correct understanding of the Merdeka Curriculum and good communication with policymakers in schools in order to overcome the problems faced.

Abstract

This research is titled "Youkai Characters in Onmyoji Arena Game". This research aims to describe the depiction of youkai used as characters in the Onmyoji Arena game. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method. This research uses semiotics theory according to Charles Sanders Peirce. Based on the research results, there are five youkai taken in the Onmyoji Arena game. The depiction of the form of youkai contained in the Onmyoji Arena game has several things related to the concept of youkai in Japanese beliefs. The depictions seen in the youkai in the Onmyoji Arena game are (1) Youkai Tanuki who is related to sake and the science of shapeshifting. (2) Youkai Zashiki Warashi which is related to luck and house guardian spirits. (3) Youkai Yumekui who likes to eat dreams. (4) Youkai Kiyohime who has a tragic love. (5) Youkai Aoandon who is related to the event 'Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai'. These five youkai produce icons, indexes, and symbols. The icon is an image, the index is the emergence of the youkai, and the symbol is the meaning of the youkai in Japanese society.

Abstract

The title of this research is "Post-Apocalyptic: The Relationship Between Nature and Humanity in the Anime 'Gin'iro No Kami No Agito' by Keiichi Sugiyama." The purpose of this study is to describe the portrayal of post-apocalyptic life, environmental values, and the relationship between nature and humanity in the anime 'Gin'iro No Kami No Agito.' The research methodology in this study is the qualitative descriptive method. For the theoretical framework, the study draws from the field of literary ecocriticism, as formulated by Glotfelty. Based on the research findings and analysis conducted, the relationship between nature and humanity in the anime 'Gin'iro no Kami no Agito' leans toward a more positive orientation in the post-apocalyptic era. In this context, humanity places a strong emphasis on fostering harmony with nature, which is reflected in their behavior that consistently takes into account the well-being of the environment. However, the repercussions of the apocalyptic event also give rise to negative interactions, such as the anxiety experienced by humans due to the pressure exerted by the forest and the actions of Laguna City, which employ force to subdue nature. Consequently, the anime depicts how humans, in general, experience a sense of being burdened by the natural world, leading to anxiety and resistance. This results in an unstable relationship between humanity and nature, ultimately dividing the human population into two groups: Neutral City and Laguna City.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of racism and the impact of racism depicted in Isayama Hajime's Shingeki no Kyojin manga. The data collection method was carried out using the documentation method and supported by the Listen and Note technique, as well as data analysis using a qualitative descriptive method, and presenting data analysis using an informal method. This study uses sociological theory according to Alan Swingewood and the theory of racism according to Beverly Daniel Tatum.Based on the research results, it is known that there are representations in the form of types of racism in the Shingeki no Kyojin manga. This can be seen in the Eldian race which was oppressed by the ruling party, namely the Marleyan race and it can be understood that the types of racism are categorized by (1) individual racism, (2) cultural racism, and (3) institutional racism. Furthermore, the results of the analysis regarding the impact of racism depicted in the Shingeki no Kyojin manga found the emergence of resistance movements, inner conflicts in the Eldian race, and differences of opinion between individuals.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the digital media/applications/programs (software) utilized by Japanese Literature Study Program students at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, both in lectures and independent learning. Students in today's modern era are millennials who are often said to be more fluent in technology and the world of informatics than their lecturers. Therefore, lecturers can undoubtedly learn about the existence of digital media and applications that are useful for improving the quality of Japanese language learning in the future. The data in this paper was obtained through the questionnaire method by distributing questionnaires to students of the class of 2019 and 2020 using the google form facility. Furthermore, the data are analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. There were 13 questions related to the use of digital media/applications/programs and student expectations of lecturers. The findings show that 28 students in their independent learning use around 24 digital media and applications, and about six digital media and applications are used in lectures. Although 72.4% of students have already studied Japanese before attending Udayana University, the use of digital media and applications for learning Japanese is only done at the college level. In addition, it is also known that students for their lecturers hope that lecturers can better follow technological developments and learn more deeply about digital platforms that support learning so that learning will be more varied and up to date. A conclusion that can be drawn from this paper is the independence and enthusiasm for learning from students to improve their Japanese language skills beyond what has been given on campus. They feel that using digital media and applications is useful for improving their language skills, reading, listening, and writing skills.
