Abstract

Affixation is the use of adding a morpheme or affix to an already existing word to create a new word to help describe its use in a sentence, and there are two types of affixes Derivational and Inflectional. Affixes can found in the various text, in newspaper, magazine and in media online text act. This research is focus on Derivational Affixes analysis on Gap Fill paragraph at UN (National Examination). Analyzing UN is one way to know the extent to which the quality of the UN that we use in the exam national system that we use in the learning system and also have an important role for the teacher and student learning as a reference and to assist student learning. While the result of the study Derivational affixes in gap fill paragraph on UN (National Examination) are –ly (8), un- (1), -ion (1), -ment (1), dis- (1). It shows that have the most frequently appear in gap fill paragraph on UN (National Examination) are suffix –ly as an adverb marker. The word of changing the part of speech that found in gap fill paragraph on UN (National Exam) are : adjective, adverb, noun and verb

Abstract

The researcher decide to conduct a research about examining guided note taking method to assist listening skill by the research problem: how can guided note taking can assist their achievement in listening skill at Madrasah Aliyah Arrisalah Curah Kates Ajung. The design in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of the research is X grade of Aliyah Arrisalah Curah Kates Ajung in the 2018/2019 academic years which consist of 25 students in a class. The research was done on 2 28 February 2019. The data was mainly obtained through test. The test is objective matching from the text. The data was analyzed using formula E = n / N x 100%. The result of the score of the analysis, the percentage of the students who got > 70 was 40% in cycle 1 and 76% in cycle 2. The way that researcher used to assist the students listening comprehension is by modificating audio-visual media. So the guided note taking will help the students organize their idea, focus the energy, create and empty space in braind and make the students be confident. Guided note taking can increase their stock of knowledge to the students.Key Words : Listening Skill, Guided Note Taking Method

Abstract

This study was implemented to analyze the form of affixes’ changes in three Imagine Dragons songs as a study source for intermediate English students. This study applied qualitative corpus analysis initially the data results are presented in tabular form. Indeed, presented a detailed description of the data found. This research used document analysis to collect data where documents were taken from electronic form specifically at the website address lirikterjemahan.id. The results of this study show 39 words that have an affixation process in three songs, 35 (89,7%) inflectional affixes, and 4 (10,3%) derivational affixes were found. First, inflectional affixes do not change the part of speech but change the grammatical function belonging to the suffix –s as plural, -es as plural, -‘s as possessive, -ing as progressive (continuous), and -ed as past. Second, derivational affixes that can change the part of speech belonging to noun suffixes change the word to a noun in the suffix –ness, -dom, -er, and adjective suffixes change the word to an adjective in the suffix -less.  Keywords: Morphology, Derivational affixes, Inflectional affixes, Song lyric

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine to examine the challenges Islamic University of Jember students have when taking the TOEFL, particularly with regard to the reading comprehension portion of the exam. It used a qualitative research approach and case study design. In-depth interviews, close observation, and documentation of the teaching and learning process were used for collecting data. The analysis's findings indicate that UIJ students have a number of challenges while trying to comprehend reading texts, such as a restricted vocabulary, trouble with complicated sentence patterns, and lack of reading strategies. This study sheds light on the variables that prevent students from performing as well as they could on the TOEFL exam. The findings are expected to that the results of this study will help shape the TOEFL learning experience at UIJ and offer valuable insights that instructors can utilize to create more impactful lesson plans.
