Abstract

Free association among adolescents is a social issue that is increasingly worrying in the midst of modern developments. This study aims to examine the implementation of da'wah management principles in the Tanjung Morawa Dare to Hijrah Community in raising adolescent awareness of the dangers of free association. This descriptive qualitative study used interviews and literature study as data collection techniques. The results show that the Dare to Hijrah Community actively applies the principles of consolidation, coordination, tajdid, and ijtihad in all their da'wah programs. The implementation of these principles is realized through various activities such as halaqah (Islamic gatherings), online studies, social programs, and contemporary approaches to adolescents. The consistent application of da'wah management principles has proven effective in fostering adolescent character, strengthening religious understanding, and guiding them away from free association and returning to Islamic values.

Abstract

Territorial disputes concerning maritime boundaries have grown increasingly intricate in the context of subnational autonomy, especially in areas with special administrative status. The communication strategies employed by the Aceh government regarding maritime territorial claims exemplify a distinctive instance of strategic narrative construction within Indonesia’s decentralized governance framework. This study investigates how the Aceh government formulates strategic narratives in territorial claims, scrutinizing the discursive patterns, rhetorical strategies, and power dynamics inherent in their political communication related to maritime boundary disputes. This research utilizes Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) in accordance with Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework, examining official documents, press statements, and public speeches delivered by Aceh government officials from 2018 to 2024. The data were subjected to analysis through textual examination, discursive practice evaluation, and contextualization of social practices. The analysis uncovers three predominant narrative strategies: (1) historical legitimacy narratives that invoke pre-colonial sovereignty, (2) legal-constitutional narratives that underscore special autonomy rights, and (3) economic security narratives that emphasize resource sovereignty. The government employs particular linguistic devices, including metaphorical expressions, intertextuality, and strategic ambiguity, to construct legitimacy while addressing multiple audiences. Aceh's strategic narrative construction illustrates a sophisticated discursive management of territorial claims within constitutional limitations. The findings enhance the understanding of subnational political communication in territorial disputes and provide insights for conflict resolution through narrative mediation.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and urgency of da'wah rhetoric in political communication in Indonesia, with a focus on the context of the Muslim-majority society. As an art of communication, da'wah rhetoric has evolved into a tool for building relationships between leaders and the public, both in spiritual and socio-political dimensions. In this study, the author employs a qualitative approach with a literature review as the primary method, relying on written sources such as books, articles, and previous research to explore the concepts of da'wah rhetoric and its application in political communication. The findings of this study show that da'wah rhetoric not only serves to strengthen religious identity but also functions as a strategic means of shaping public opinion and advancing public agendas, using moral and religious values that can influence the feelings and emotions of the audience. The study discusses three methods of da'wah rhetoric: the method of hikmah (wisdom), mau'izhah hasanah (good advice), and mujadalah billati hiya ahsan (debate in the best manner). The application of these methods is crucial for delivering political messages effectively and persuasively.

Abstract

This study seeks to determine the role of religious counselors in strengthening religious moderation in Cinta Damai Village, Deli Serdang North Sumatra. As part of the da'wah (preaching) movement, religious counselors are in charge of providing religious understanding and resolving community issues. This study uses a qualitative method with a field study approach and descriptive design. This approach allows in-depth data mining related to the views, experiences, and understanding of the community toward the role of religious counselors. Field studies were conducted to obtain contextual and relevant data on the conditions of Cinta Damai Village. The findings reveal that religious counselors have a crucial role in strengthening religious moderation through three main functions: informative, consultative and advocative. Messages about tolerance, interfaith dialog, and legal awareness have proven to be important elements in building a peaceful society. However, religious counselors faced challenges, such as a public misunderstanding of the concept of religious moderation. To address this issue, religious counselors must actively educate people to respect differences and live a harmonious religious life. Eventually, this study confirms that religious counselors play an important role in fostering a peaceful environment.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effective communication strategies at State Islamic University (UIN) Ar-Raniry to strengthen the understanding and application of Islamic Sharia, given the institution's critical role in Aceh. Employing a qualitative case study method through interviews, observations, and document analysis of eight research subjects (R1–R8), the findings indicate that UIN Ar-Raniry implements a comprehensive strategy combining traditional approaches such as interpersonal communication, student mentoring programs, and collaboration with scholars with the utilization of digital media (social media, websites) to reach a wider audience. These strategies involve contextual messaging and interactive discussions, as well as the integration of Sharia values into the curriculum and the development of Islamic character. The success of these strategies is evidenced by an increased understanding of Sharia values among students, high participation in religious activities, and the application of Islamic ethics in academic life. Academically, these findings contribute by affirming the importance of synergy between modern and traditional communication and collaboration among stakeholders to support the optimal implementation of Islamic Sharia.

Abstract

The rally of around two million Muslims in Jakarta in November 2016 protesting against alleged religious defamation committed  by Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama made the  headlines in  Indonesian mainstream newspapers; Kompas and Republika. However, both newspapers came out with different perspectives in accordance with their ideological background. Therefore, these differences lead to the question of  whether they would trigger a clash of civilization as pointed by S. Huntington stating that the vast post-cold war conflicts would be represented by Western Civilization, China Civilization, and Islam Civilization. This study formulates the problems including: (1) How is the clash of civilization built through the symptoms constructed in Kompas and Republika newspapers? and; (2) How do the intertextual aspects build the clash of civilization semiotically through the texts of the news in Kompas and Republika related to the November 4, 2016 rally? The paradigm used is the critical paradigm with qualitative approach, while the data are analyzed by using Kristeva Semiotic Method. The results of the research include; the mass media has been  a field of  the symbolic war among civilizations, meaning that the clash of civilizations on media is manifested through the symbolic conflict upheaval operated semiotically by Kompas and Republika. The news of November 4, 2016 rally in both newspapers serves as a battlefield of meanings as well as the field of a clash of civilizations.
