Abstract

Pregnant women are frequently prescribed medications, yet limited data exist on the safety profiles of these drugs in low-resource settings. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) classification system is a critical tool to evaluate fetal risks, but its application in Indonesian clinical practice remains understudied. This study aimed to analyze prescription patterns and TGA safety categories of drugs prescribed to pregnant women at a tertiary hospital in Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted using medical records of 374 pregnant women at Bunda Arif Hospital (2021-2022). Drugs were classified according to TGA categories (A, B1, B2, B3, C, D, X). Data were analyzed descriptively (frequencies, percentages) and compared across trimesters. Most patients (63%) received one drug, primarily electrolytes/minerals/vitamins (67%). Based on TGA classification, 33% of drugs were Category A (safe), while 27% were Category D (e.g., high-dose Vitamin A). Notably, Category D drugs were increasingly prescribed across trimesters (12% in 1st trimester to 46% in 3rd trimester). No Category X drugs were identified. Conclusion: Despite overall adherence to safe prescribing (Category A), the high prevalence of Category D drugs, particularly Vitamin A, highlights a critical gap in perinatal pharmacovigilance. Clinicians should prioritize evidence-based guidelines to mitigate potential teratogenic risks in pregnancy.

Abstract

Background: Intravenous (IV) insertion is a routine procedure in hospitalized patients, but its success depends on the nurse's ability to accurately locate and access veins. Patients with difficult venous access (DVA) often experience multiple punctures, prolonged procedure times, and an increased risk of complications. Venous detection devices, particularly infrared-based technology, have been introduced to enhance vein visualization. Purpose: To identify the effectiveness of the vein detection tool on the speed and accuracy of nurses in intravenous procedures. Method: A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines to analyze studies retrieved from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ProQuest. Results: Six reviewed studies indicated that venous detection devices improve the first-attempt success rate, reduce insertion time, and minimize the number of punctures. Conclusion: These findings suggest that venous detection devices can enhance the efficiency of IV insertion in clinical settings. Suggestion: Further research with larger sample sizes and standardized protocols is needed to strengthen the evidence.   Keywords: Accuracy; Infusion Installation; Nurse; Speed; Vein Detection Device. Abstract

Background: Hypothermia in infants is a critical care emergency that increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. The use of thermal blankets is an effective non-pharmacological intervention to maintain body temperature, but scientific evidence regarding its effectiveness in perinatology wards is limited. Purpose: To assess the effect of thermal blankets on changes in body temperature in infants with hypothermia in perinatology wards. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted using various national and international databases. The search databases used were PubMed, Google Scholar, Scimago, DOAJ, Garuda, and Neliti. Keywords were structured based on the PICO framework and using Boolean operators (AND/OR). Inclusion criteria for this study were articles published between 2015 and 2025, in English or Indonesian, and published online. Results: The most common intervention in this literature was thermal intervention (warming) using thermal blankets. All programs showed a significant increase or stabilization in body temperature (p < 0.05). Infants are vulnerable to hypothermia due to their immature thermoregulatory systems, low subcutaneous fat, large body surface area, and limited metabolic capacity to generate heat. Meanwhile, external challenges for healthcare workers include limited heating equipment, the need for infant mobility, and the risk of heat loss during transport and cesarean delivery. Conclusion: The use of thermal blankets has been shown to significantly increase the body temperature of infants with hypothermia in the perinatology ward. This intervention can be recommended as a nursing intervention to stabilize infant temperature, especially in settings with limited facilities.   Keywords: Hypothermia; Infant Body Temperature; Perinatology Ward; Thermal Blanket. Kata kunci disusun berdasarkan kerangka PICO dan menggunakan Boolean operator (AND/OR).
