Abstract

The limited laboratory equipment in many schools hinders students in conducting physics experiments, so that learning is more theoretical and less supportive of practice-based understanding. This study aims to develop a smartphone sensor-based physics experiment module on wave and optical materials that is valid, practical, and effective, and allows students to conduct experiments flexibly and independently. This research uses the Research and Development (R & D) method with the Borg & Gall model. Validation by media and material experts showed that this module has met the eligibility standards, with a score of 3.67 (73.4%) for media aspects and 3.56 (71.2%) for material aspects. The practicality test showed that this module can be used well in experimental learning, with a score of 3.48 (69.6%) in the “Good” category. Evaluation of effectiveness through comparison of pre-test and post-test showed an increase in learning outcomes with an N-gain of 0.55 (medium category). These results indicate that the integration of smartphone sensors in physics experiments can be an alternative solution for schools with limited laboratory facilities. This module offers a more flexible, accessible and technology-based learning approach. Future research can develop similar modules for other physics materials and evaluate their effectiveness in various learning scenarios.

Abstract

This community service program designed to enhance physics experimental skills using smartphone sensors for high school teacher aims to introduce and train teachers in utilizing simple yet effective technology in physics education. By using smartphone sensors, the goal is to enable teachers to conduct experiments that are not only captivating but also easily accessible and relevant to daily life, thus boosting students’ comprehension and interest. The program was conducted in two phases: first, a training session for teachers, followed by school visit with MGMP team to provide hands-on support, address any challenges teachers may encounter, and observe the implementation of the method. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the program was evaluated based on the results from both pre-assessment and post-assessment conducted on 20 teachers from MGMP group. The assessment results showed increases in understanding and preparing technology, collecting data, and analyzing and evaluating data. Despite several challenges such as limited access to compatible devices and varying levels of understanding regarding the concept, the training was overall successfully improved teachers’ skills in applying the technology for physics experiment.

Abstract

This study evaluated the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of a flipbook-based e-module for teaching bacteria to tenth-grade students. The study used a research and development design with the 4D model: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Participants included 90 students from experimental and control classes and six expert validators. Data were collected using validation sheets, response questionnaires, and pretest and posttest instruments. The results showed that the e-module was highly valid in terms of content, language, and media quality. Teacher and student responses indicated that the module was practical, attractive, and easy to use. Students who used the flipbook e-module achieved better learning outcomes than those taught with conventional materials. These findings indicate that interactive digital media can strengthen students’ understanding of bacteria and support more active biology learning. Penelitian menggunakan desain penelitian dan pengembangan dengan model 4D, yaitu define, design, develop, dan disseminate. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas 90 siswa pada kelas eksperimen dan kontrol serta enam validator ahli. Data diperoleh melalui lembar validasi, angket respons, serta instrumen pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa e-modul sangat valid pada aspek materi, bahasa, dan media. Respons guru dan siswa menunjukkan bahwa e-modul praktis, menarik, dan mudah digunakan. Siswa yang menggunakan e-modul memperoleh hasil belajar lebih baik daripada siswa yang belajar dengan bahan konvensional. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa media digital interaktif dapat memperkuat pemahaman konsep bakteri dan mendukung pembelajaran biologi yang lebih aktif.

Abstract

Background: Delayed or non-diagnostic feedback for junior high school students in learning bacterial concepts can leave misconceptions uncorrected. Objectives: This study examined whether a teacher-mediated Quizizz-enhanced biology condition was associated with greater improvement in eighth-grade students’ mastery of bacterial concepts than the control class. Method: A quasi-experimental non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design involved 88 students in two classes at SMP Negeri 11 Kabupaten Sorong, Southwest Papua, Indonesia. The experimental class learnt through teacher-guided instruction supported by Quizizz retrieval questions, immediate feedback, response review, and concept clarification. The control class was taught through explanation, slides, oral questioning, and written exercises. Individual N-gain scores were compared using Welch’s independent-samples t-test, supported by a Mann-Whitney U sensitivity analysis and Hedges’ g. Results: The experimental class achieved higher posttest than the control class in terms of mean values (i.e., 93.64 and 79.77) and N-gain values (.54 and .38). Significant improvement was gained by experimental class compared to the control one (t(74.51)=3.575, p<.001). Moreover, the sensitivity analysis supported these results (U=598.00, p=.002) with the standardized difference was g=.76. Conclusion: The integrated Quizizz-enhanced instructional cycle was associated with stronger improvement in bacterial concept mastery. The findings in this study represents a baseline-sensitive association rather than an isolated causal effect of the platform.
