Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools is often perceived by students as abstract and disconnected from everyday life. This condition results in low conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills, particularly in the topic of weight unit conversion. This article aims to examine the exploration of ethnomathematics in fish weighing activities as a meaningful learning context to strengthen the concept of weight unit conversion (kilograms, quintals, and tons) and train the problem-solving skills of sixth-grade elementary school students. The methods used are literature study and conceptual study of ethnomathematics practices in fish buying and selling activities in traditional markets and fishing ports. The results of the study indicate that fish weighing activities involving contextual weight units can connect mathematical concepts with students' real-life experiences, improve conceptual understanding, and train mathematical problemsolving skills. Thus, the integration of ethnomathematics with fish weighing has the potential to be an effective contextual learning approach for weight unit conversion material in elementary schools

Abstract

This study explores the religious and cultural values contained in the film Buya Hamka by Alim Sudio and analyzes its potential use as teaching material in senior high schools. The film not only depicts the biography of a renowned Indonesian scholar, writer, and cultural figure but also presents strong moral messages, Islamic teachings, and local wisdom that align with character education. The research is motivated by the importance of maintaining religious and cultural values amid globalization and modernization, which can threaten the local identity of young generations. This study introduces a new perspective by integrating religious and cultural values from a biographical film into character-based learning, a topic rarely discussed in previous studies. The theoretical framework includes the concept of literature as a reflection of life, religious values such as worship, ruhul jihad, morality, exemplary conduct, trustworthiness, and sincerity, as well as cultural values covering life necessities, truth, ancestry, and sources of life. Using a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis of dialogues, scenes, and narration, the study concludes that Buya Hamka can serve as appropriate teaching material under the Merdeka Curriculum, especially for expository texts. Its use in learning is expected to enhance critical literacy, strengthen the Pancasila Student Profile, and develop students’ spiritual and cultural awareness.

Abstract

This research was triggered by the low speaking skills of students in the Indonesian language subject of grade IV of Permata Topaz Elementary School which is characterized by a lack of courage to express opinions, limited use of vocabulary, and inappropriate pronunciation and intonation. One solution to overcome this problem is to use the Story Based Learning learning model. This research aims to improve students' speaking skills in the Indonesian language subject with fairy tales. The research method is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is implemented in two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings and four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research time was carried out in November 2025. Data collection techniques include documentation, observation, and tests. The subjects of this study were 26 fourth-grade students, consisting of 12 male students and 14 female students. The data analysis techniques in this study were descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The results of this study showed an increase in students' speaking skills during the pre-action of 34.61%, then in cycle I meeting I increased to 50%, and cycle I meeting II increased to 65.38%. Furthermore, in cycle II meeting I increased to 80.76%, and cycle II meeting II increased to 88.46%. Thus, it can be concluded that using the Story Based Learning learning model can improve students' speaking skills in Indonesian language learning in grade IV of Permata Topaz Elementary School.
