This study aims to develop visual prompts in the form of videos using the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The use of visual prompts in videos aims to improve learning effectiveness and facilitate user understanding. At the Define stage, a needs analysis and problem identification were conducted to determine the objectives and content of the video. At the Design stage, video scenarios and designs are developed by considering visual elements and messages to be conveyed. The Develop stage involves creating video prototypes using supporting technology and software, namely the Canva application, as well as initial testing to obtain feedback. Finally, the Disseminate stage involved video distribution and end-user evaluation to measure the success of the development. The results showed that the visual prompt video was able to significantly increase students’ engagement and comprehension, thus having a positive impact to the increasing speaking performance in learning process

Abstract

To effectively implement an independent curriculum, teachers must excel at engaging classroom management. This research aimed to identify challenges faced by English teachers in managing seventh-grade classes at UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli and the factors contributing to these difficulties. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to gather data through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and student surveys. The data were analyzed to pinpoint specific challenges and their underlying causes. English teachers encountered nine primary classroom management issues, including difficulties in creating conducive learning environments, concluding lessons, managing transitions, and interacting with parents. Teachers also struggled with fostering a positive classroom community and providing effective rewards. Additionally, challenges arose in monitoring student progress, organizing group work, and assessing student performance. Teacher interviews revealed that time constraints, academic priorities, and limited school resources were major factors contributing to these difficulties. This study indicates that time, academic workload, and insufficient school resources significantly hinder English teachers' ability to manage their classrooms effectively within the independent curriculum framework.

Abstract

This research examines the correlation among religious tourism, the use of foreign languages, and tourist motivation at Bunda Beach and Resort. The background of this research highlights the importance of information in foreign languages in religious tourism destinations which can influence tourists' experiences and motivation. The aim of this research is to understand the dynamics and factors that influence religious tourism, especially the use of Latin at Bunda Beach and Resort. The research method used is a mixed method, with data collection through questionnaires and interviews. The research results show that the use of Latin at Bunda Beach and Resort is not the main factor that attracts tourists. The main motivation of tourists to visit this place is to freshen up, pray and enjoy the religious atmosphere offered by the resort. The conclusion of this study is that although the use of Latin provides a strong religious overtone, this does not significantly influence tourist motivation. Bunda Beach and Resort management can consider adding other elements that are more attractive to general tourists.

Abstract

Critical thinking is the ability to objectively assess information to reach logical conclusions. In the 21st century, this skill is essential for students to face global challenges. This study analyzed the representation of critical thinking indicators in the "Work in Progress" English textbook for Grade X used at SMK Swasta Pembda Nias. A qualitative content analysis method was applied, with data collected through documentation and analyzed in five stages: familiarization, coding, reduction, interpretation, and representation. The findings revealed that the three indicators of critical thinking from the Profil Pelajar Pancasila were present: acquiring and processing information (25%), analyzing and evaluating reasoning (52%), and reflecting on one own thinking (23%). The second indicator was most dominant. Additionally, implicit meaning delivery (52%) appeared slightly more frequently than explicit (48%). These results indicate that the textbook sufficiently supports the development of students critical thinking skills in line with the Profil Pelajar Pancasila.
