Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young adults continue to be an important public health problem for many countries, with as many as 333 million cases of STIs occurring among young adults. The lack of reproductive health information driven by socio-cultural changes for young adults makes students vulnerable to reproductive diseases. Information obtained through the media is needed which aims to increase student or young adult knowledge regarding reproductive health. This study aims to see the relationship between access to reproductive health information and students' knowledge related to reproductive health. This study used a quantitative method with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study is all active students at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2022, that involved a sample of 266 students using a proportionate stratified random sampling . Data were analyzed using the chi-square test for categorical variables and t-test for continuous variables. A total of 83.5% of students access reproductive health information. Data analysis shows that there is a relationship between information access to knowledge of reproductive health, from the results of the chi square statistical test found p-value < 0.001.  Meanwhile, there was no relationship between age, gender, and faculty with knowledge of reproductive health.

Abstract

Depression is estimated to be experienced by 12 million young adults. In 2021, the prevalence of depression among the people was estimated to be about 20% due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The use of social media can be a trigger for depression and anxiety, especially among young people who are very closely related to social media. In addition, other factors can contribute to depression and anxiety, such as working status, age, married status, and gender. Aim of study is to find factors that influence depression and anxiety in young adults. This study used a quantitative analytic observational approach with a cross-sectional which was carried out in September-October 2022. It involved 285 young adult respondents aged 18-25 years who had lived at least 1 year in a metropolitan area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi). This study showed that depression (66.4%) and anxiety (73.3%) are quite high in young adults. Working status is significantly associated with depression (p=0.0001) and anxiety (p=0.0001). Similarly, duration of social media use is significantly associated with depression (p0.001) and anxiety (p=0.026). However, gender, age, and marital status are not associated with depression and anxiety.

Abstract

The previous study at Puskesmas Pisangan, Ciputat had reported that among 23.8 % patient of the UNHCR was infected by malaria Plasmodium vivax, and one patient with bacterial urinary infection. However, the result can not represent the actual case of the disease, because of the lack number of participant to visit the Puskesmas  since the Covid-19 pandemic which had been contributing to decrease number of the patients. The study purposed to improve data and information about parasitic infection, and to design strategy in early detection and prevention to the disease. Design of the study was approached in cross-sectional with a total sampling method of the UNHCR out patients visiting the Puskesmas Pisangan and Cirendeu. We collected specimen of feces, urine, and blood, and performed blood diff-count, rapid diagnostic, microscopic, dipstick, and bacterial culture. The study revealed some parasitic and bacterial infections as defined: five cases (17.24%) of malaria, which is suspected as imported cases; Enterobacteriacea family as non-specific bacteria of negative gram in urine; also Entamoeba coli in stool. This finding was confirmed 17.24% of leucocytosis in blood diffcount and 24.14 % in urinalysis.  By nationality, Sudanese was detected the most prevalent 10.34% of parasitic infections, followed by Somalia (6.9%), Yaman (3.45%), and Afghanistan (3.45%) respectively. While mosquitoes and poor living conditions were also contributed as the major potential risk of transmission to the diseases. In conclusion, early detection, health screening, vaccination, access to primary, and upgraded levels of healthcare are important for diseases control and management to prevent transmission.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a condition of pain or cramps in the lower abdomen, hips, waist, thighs and calves that occurs during menstruation. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia reached 64.25%, with 54.89% of them being primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea. Therefore, the high number of dysmenorrhea experienced by female students requires appropriate treatment regarding dysmenorrhea in female students. This research aims to determine the description and impact of dysmenorrhea on Jabodetabek students. The research design used was cross sectional with a purposive sampling technique and involved 226 respondents. Data was collected using a questionnaire adapted from a standard questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi Square test. The results of the analysis showed that 62.8% of respondents experienced mild dysmenorrhea and 37.2% experienced severe dysmenorrhea. There is a statistically significant relationship between impaired learning concentration (p<0.001; OR: 1.78; 95% CI: 1.50 - 2.12), impaired physical activity (p <0.001; OR: 2.30; 95% CI: 1.85 - 2.87), and stress (p<0.001; OR: 1.47; 95% CI: 1.29 - 1.68) with the severity of dysmenorrhea. Further education is needed regarding the management of dysmenorrhea, both through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy to minimize the various impacts that can occur. This research can also be used as educational material regarding dysmenorrhea

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a significant health problem and a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of hypertension in adults continues to increase at a global and national level. Information regarding determinants of hypertension is critical for preventive measures, especially in adults. This study examined the associations of individual characteristics and nutritional status with hypertension in adults in East Ciputat, South Tangerang.Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted to 400 adults aged ≥35 years old. Data on their blood pressure and nutritional status (body mass index) were obtained by measurement, and data on individual characteristics, food consumption, and lifestyle were collected through an interview using a structured questionnaire. A multivariate analysis was performed using a logistic regression test. Results: The proportion of hypertension was 54%. The multivariate analysis results showed that older age, low education level, a family history of hypertension, overweight/obese status, and consumption of sweet foods for >3 times/week increased the risk of hypertension (Odds Ratio 2.37-11.28). In conclusion, people aged ≥65 years were at the greatest risk of hypertension. This study highlights the importance of increasing health promotion on the modifiable risk factors of hypertension such as food consumption patterns, weight control, and knowledge about hypertension.
