Abstract

Sudan is located in the Sahel “Coup Belt” region, which has a long history of coups and military rule in Africa. Tensions peaked on April 15, 2023 when Rapid Support Force (RSF) paramilitary forces led by Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo and Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) forces loyal to General Fattah al-Burhan fought in the capital region, Khartoum. This paper aims to analyze the conflict resolution of civil armed conflict between SAF and RSF in Sudan. This paper uses a qualitative method with documentation studies as a source of research information. The results of this study indicate that there are conflict resolution efforts that have been made to achieve peace in the country of Sudan. By using Johan Galtung's conflict resolution approach, three forms of resolution models have been grouped, namely Peacemaking with the help of IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development), AU (African Union), Saudi Arabia and the United States, Peacekeeping with the help of the UN Security Council mandate namely UNITAMS United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan) and Peacebuilding by forming three framework agreements namely the Juba Peace Agreement (JPA), the Treaty of Jeddah and the Sudan Framework.

Abstract

The military invasion by Israel against Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has worsened the hunger crisis. This research aims to determine the role of World Central Kitchen (WCK) in addressing the hunger crisis in Gaza in 2023- 2024. This research uses Clive Archer's theory of international organisation roles to examine WCK's role in addressing the hunger crisis in Gaza. The methodology used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach with secondary data sources obtained from journals, books, reports, and media news. The research results indicate that WCK has significantly fulfilled its roles as an instrument, arena, and independent actor. The WCK's first role is an instrument for humanitarian food aid programs by building community kitchens and collaborating with the governments of other countries and local organisations to distribute food. The second role is an arena, which means making the WCK organisation a workplace for workers and volunteers from all over the world. Then, the third role is as an independent actor, namely WCK is an independent organisation in terms of funding and also receives donations from other institutions without any binding interests except humanitarian ones. In addition to these roles, WCK also faces challenges, including difficulties in obtaining assistance and potential threats to the safety of its workers during humanitarian operations. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This research explores the ongoing human rights crisis in Venezuela, with an emphasis on the closure of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Office by the Nicolás Maduro regime in 2024. This closure demonstrates the increasing authoritarian nature and resistance to outside scrutiny of increasingly structured human rights violations by the state. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach as well as the theory of realism and the concept of national interest, this research examines how the Venezuelan government has implemented a defensive strategy to maintain domestic political control and state independence amid external pressure and sanctions. The findings show that the Venezuelan policy of closing the UN Human Rights Offices exacerbates the sense of impunity for human rights violations, deepens the country’s diplomatic isolation, and worsens the social and economic crisis experienced by the people. This research emphasizes the importance of understanding the dynamics of power politics and national interests to decipher interstate relations and the role of international institutions in the context of complex global pressures.
