Abstract

This study aims to examine the marketing communication of Sanggar Gema Asyura through its Instagram account @gemaasyura2020. Sanggar Gema Asyura is a cultural arts group in Bengkulu City that specializes in traditional dance and dol music and has achieved national recognition. However, its digital presence on Instagram remains limited, with only about 259 followers and inconsistent posting activity. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews with five informants, observation, and documentation. Analysis was conducted using Elias St. Elmo Lewis’s AIDA Theory (Attention, Interest , Desire , Action). The results indicate that all four stages of AIDA have been implemented with varying levels of effectiveness. Overall, the Desire and Action stages were more effective than the Attention and Interest stages. Inconsistent content management remains the primary obstacle to optimizing the studio’s digital marketing communication. Abstract

This study was motivated by the low listening skills in English among seventh-grade students at SMPN 11 Bengkulu Tengah. The problems identified include limited use of digital technology in learning, the use of less varied conventional methods, and low student learning motivation which tends to be passive. This study aims to determine the effect of using Learning English Podcast (LEP) on improving the English listening skills of seventh-grade students at SMPN 11 Bengkulu Tengah in the academic year 2025/2026. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 40 students selected through purposive sampling, divided into class VII A as the experimental group and class VII B as the control group. The research instrument was a 30-item multiple-choice listening test. The results showed a significant improvement in students' listening ability, indicated by the experimental class post-test mean of 72.25, higher than the control class mean of 43.30. The independent samples t-test showed a significance value of p < 0.001 (sig. 2-tailed < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. It can therefore be concluded that the use of Learning English Podcast (LEP) is effective in improving students' English listening skills, particularly in understanding main ideas, specific information, vocabulary, and the meaning of spoken conversation..

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Memrise application on the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at SMAN 03 Kota Bengkulu. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 77 eleventh-grade students, including 38 students in the experimental class and 39 students in the control class. The experimental class was taught using the Memrise application, while the control class received conventional instruction. The research instrument was a speaking test administered as both a pre-test and a post-test. Students' speaking performances were assessed by two raters using the same scoring rubric. The collected data were analyzed using validity and reliability tests, normality and homogeneity tests, the Independent Samples t-Test, and the F-Test using SPSS. The findings indicated that the data from both groups were normally distributed and homogeneous. The Independent Samples t-Test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.010, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups. Furthermore, the F-Test yielded a significance value of 0.010 with an F-value of 6.973, confirming that the Memrise application had a significant positive effect on students' speaking skills. The Partial Eta Squared value of 0.085 indicated that the treatment explained 8.5% of the variance in students' speaking achievement. Therefore, the Memrise application can be considered an effective learning medium for improving students' English-speaking skills.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the influence of using The 1975 Band songs on the vocabulary mastery of second-semester students of the 2025 cohort at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. The 1975 Band songs were chosen as a learning medium because they contain various kinds of vocabulary, use authentic English, and can increase students' learning motivation. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The sample consisted of two classes, namely Class 2C as the experimental class and Class 2B as the control class, with 16 students in each class. The instrument used in this research was a multiple-choice test given in the form of a pre-test and a post-test to measure students' vocabulary mastery. The results showed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery after the treatment. The average score of the experimental class increased from 56.75 to 91.25, while the average score of the control class increased from 65.50 to 78.06. These results indicate that there was a significant influence of using The 1975 Band songs on the vocabulary mastery of second-semester students of the 2025 cohort at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. Therefore, The 1975 Band songs were proven to be an effective learning medium for improving students' vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The knowledge of phonetic symbols is often underutilized in English pronunciation learning, despite being a fundamental tool for understanding and producing speech sounds accurately. This study aimed to determine whether there is a significant correlation between students’ knowledge of English consonant phonetic symbols and their English pronunciation accuracy among fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at State Islamic University of Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. A quantitative correlational approach was applied with 20 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 50-item multiple-choice Knowledge of Phonetic Symbols Test and an oral Pronunciation Accuracy Test assessed by two independent raters. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation through SPSS, preceded by Shapiro-Wilk normality and linearity tests. Results showed a correlation coefficient of r = 0.762 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant strong positive correlation. The coefficient of determination (r² = 0.581) revealed that 58.1% of the variance in pronunciation accuracy was explained by phonetic symbol knowledge. It can be concluded that students with greater knowledge of IPA consonant symbols tend to demonstrate higher pronunciation accuracy, highlighting the importance of systematic phonetic symbol instruction in English Education programs.
