Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints, characterized by pain and reduced mobility, which significantly impacts the quality of life of its sufferers. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of an herbal remedy containing ginger, galangal, and lemongrass in reducing pain intensity among Rheumatoid Arthritis patients. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design. It was conducted in RT 05, Kelurahan Ponorogo, Kecamatan Lubuklinggau Utara II, involving 20 purposively selected respondents. The herbal remedy was administered twice daily for seven days, and pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant decrease in the average pain intensity from 6.5 to 3.0 after the intervention (p < 0.05). The gingerol content in ginger, flavonoids in galangal, and anti-inflammatory compounds in lemongrass were found to play a role in reducing inflammation and joint pain. This herbal remedy is effective, safe, and easily applicable as an alternative therapy for Rheumatoid Arthritis patients, particularly in communities with limited access to pharmacological treatments. The study concludes that the herbal remedy of ginger, galangal, and lemongrass is a potential option in Rheumatoid Arthritis management. Further research is recommended to strengthen these findings.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out in RT 24 RW 4, Pematang Gubernur Subdistrict, Bengkulu City, with the objective of empowering local residents in managing household organic waste through the production of eco-enzyme and the use of a stacked-bucket biocompost reactor. The initiative began with field observations, followed by the construction of a biocompost reactor a week before the main training session. The socialization event took place at the residence of the RT head, was attended by local citizens, and featured a resource person from Yayasan Sehati Bengkulu. During the activity, participants learned directly how to make eco-enzyme using kitchen waste and how to operate a simple compost reactor made from used plastic buckets. Although the final results of the organic fertilizer were not yet visible due to the fermentation process requiring a longer time, the activity successfully increased residents’ awareness, participation, and understanding. This program highlighted that managing organic waste at the household level using simple and low-cost tools can contribute to environmental sustainability and economic resilience for families by enabling self-production of fertilizers.

Abstract

The lack of public knowledge about contraceptive methods, particularly the Intrauterine Device (IUD), has resulted in the suboptimal use of this long-term contraceptive method. Health education counseling on IUD-based family planning aims to improve the community’s understanding—especially among women of reproductive age—of the benefits, how it works, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the IUD as a family planning method. The activity was carried out in the form of counseling using leaflets and presentations to the residents of Sukasari Village, Air Periukan Subdistrict, Seluma Regency. The results showed enthusiasm and active participation from the community during the question-and-answer and discussion sessions. This educational initiative is expected to raise awareness about choosing the right contraceptive method according to individual needs and to encourage appropriate use of long-term contraception.

Abstract

Vaginal discharge is a common reproductive health issue among adolescent girls, particularly in boarding school environments. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that 75% of women have experienced vaginal discharge, with poor genital hygiene being one of the contributing factors. This study aims to investigate the relationship between genital hygiene and the occurrence of vaginal discharge. The study employed an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach, involving 59 respondents selected using total sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire that included questions about genital hygiene habits and experiences of vaginal discharge. Univariate analysis results showed that most respondents had poor genital hygiene (44.1%) and experienced vaginal discharge (47.5%). The chi-square test results indicated a significant association between genital hygiene and vaginal discharge (p = 0.002). It is hoped that boarding schools can optimise education and counselling on personal hygiene and vaginal discharge to prevent vaginal discharge among female students.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of informed consent within the realm of independent midwifery, with a specific focus on the communication processes and legal obligations encountered in Midwife Nela’s practice. Despite the pivotal role of informed consent in safeguarding patient rights and ensuring ethical medical practice, a significant challenge persists due to the inadequate patient awareness regarding their rights as stipulated under the 1945 Constitution. This issue often results in patients entrusting midwives without a comprehensive understanding of potential risks. Employing a normative juridical approach, this research synthesizes both primary and secondary data to explore how informed consent is executed and the attendant challenges. The findings reveal that Midwife Nela’s practice is characterized by a personalized approach to patient communication and clarity in the conveyance of information, which distinctly supports the establishment of legal and therapeutic relationships between midwives and patients. The study further discusses the implications of these findings for the enhancement of informed consent practices in independent midwifery across Indonesia. It underscores the necessity for midwives to not only fulfill legal standards but also engage in effective communication, thereby facilitating patient autonomy and informed decision-making. Recommendations are provided for improving health policies and practices, which aim to strengthen the legal protections for both patients and healthcare providers in the midwifery sector.

Abstract

In the Kampung Delima Health Center area, the incidence of diarrhea is quite high, with one toddler dying due to recurring diarrhea in a village within the health center's working area. Initial interviews with the diarrhea program officer revealed that medical actions from early symptoms to hospital referral had been conducted. However, audit results showed that family factors, such as economic conditions and knowledge, contributed to the patient's worsening condition and eventual death. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge about diarrhea and parental behavior in preventing diarrhea in toddlers in the Kampung Delima Health Center area. This research employs a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size consists of 50 participants, and data collection was conducted using a questionnaire. The results of the Chi-Square test indicate a significant relationship between knowledge of diarrhea and parental behavior in preventing diarrhea, with a p-value of 0.012 (p < 0.05). Based on the research findings, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, while the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. In conclusion, knowledge about diarrhea is significantly related to prevention behaviors. It is recommended that the Kampung Delima Health Center develop continuous educational programs, hold regular outreach activities, provide adequate facilities, and conduct routine monitoring and evaluation.
