Abstract

False eyelashes are essential tools used to enhance the appearance of the eyes in makeup application. However, most variants of false eyelashes currently available on the market are made from human hair and synthetic materials, which do not guarantee halal quality for Muslim consumers. This study aims to develop a new variant of false eyelashes made from halal-certified natural fibers. The false eyelashes are produced using natural fibers derived from the leaf sheaths of Musa paradisiaca (kepok banana), Musa textilis (abaca banana), and Musa sapientum (ambon banana), which are mechanically processed and crafted using a hanging netting technique, with designs adjusted to fit the shape of the eyes. Based on laboratory tests for tensile strength and modulus of elasticity, abaca banana fibers achieved the highest values at 72.49 g/tex and 1.85 g/tex, respectively. For fiber smoothness testing, kepok banana fibers scored the highest at 10.44 g/tex. In organoleptic tests, abaca banana fibers received the highest score for curliness at 66.7%; for lightness, both kepok and abaca banana fibers shared the highest score at 44.4%; and for neatness, kepok and abaca banana fibers again shared the highest score at 66.7%. In hedonic preference tests, kepok banana fibers scored 44.4%, abaca 50%, and ambon 60%. It can be concluded that false eyelashes made from the leaf sheath fibers of kepok, abaca, and ambon bananas are considered visually suitable for use in makeup based on organoleptic and hedonic evaluations. The results of this study contribute to the development of new variants of halal-certified false eyelashes in the cosmetic industry.

Abstract

Globalization and rapid digital development have increasingly challenged students’ moral conduct (adab), particularly within Islamic educational institutions, as exposure to unfiltered digital content, social media influence, and external cultural values contributes to declining discipline and ethical behavior. This study examines how Islamic schools can effectively address these challenges through character-based adab education. The objective of this study is to analyze the strategies used in forming students’ adab based on Islamic character education in response to globalization dynamics at MTs Muallimin UNIVA Medan. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving Islamic education teachers, homeroom teachers, counseling teachers, and students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to ensure the credibility of the findings. The results indicate that students’ adab formation is implemented systematically through teachers’ role modeling, religious habituation, the integration of adab values into classroom learning, religious and extracurricular programs, and persuasive, humanistic guidance. A religious school culture, teacher consistency, parental involvement, and structured institutional programs support these strategies. However, challenges remain, including the influence of social media, external peer environments, and limited parental supervision. Overall, Islamic character-based adab education at MTs Muallimin UNIVA Medan is effective in strengthening students’ moral resilience and ethical awareness, enabling them to respond wisely and responsibly to the challenges of globalization and the digital world.

Abstract

The ability to read the Qur’an is a fundamental skill for Muslim children. However, in Pematang Johar Village, many children still face difficulties such as not recognizing Arabic letters, stammering while reading Iqra’, or lacking fluency in reciting the Qur’an. To address these challenges, a community service program titled Magrib Mengaji (Evening Qur’an Reading Program) was implemented for ten days by students of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) from Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara in Pematang Johar Village. The activity involved approximately fifteen participants, ranging from elementary to junior high school students. The main focus of this program was to enhance Qur’anic reading skills through the talaqqi method and gradual learning tailored to each child’s ability. The implementation showed significant improvement among the children, particularly in recognizing Arabic letters, improving Iqra’ reading fluency, and refining Qur’anic recitation to become more tartil (properly rhythmic). Moreover, the program successfully fostered children’s enthusiasm for learning and strengthened community involvement in promoting Qur’anic literacy. This initiative demonstrates that strengthening Qur’anic literacy can be effectively achieved through collaborative efforts involving students, families, and the local community.
