The book Proverbs and the Formation of Character by Dave Bland highlights how the book of Proverbs shapes moral character through practical and relational wisdom. Bland focuses on the often-overlooked section of sentence literature (Proverbs 10–29) and shows that the book of Proverbs has the power to shape virtues such as justice and self-control. With an interdisciplinary approach, he brings together theology, ethics, homiletics, and psychology to show the relevance of Proverbs in modern life. Wisdom in Proverbs is described as the result of a relationship with God and community, and is obtained through dialogue and life experience. Therefore, Dave Bland's critical insight into the character formation of the book of Proverbs in this book is not only oriented toward a dimension of moral rules, but also a process of character growth that takes place through learning adaptation, correction, and openness to guidance from family with community.

This research examines one of God's attributes, namely the divine faithfulness, through the analogy of a mother's faithfulness to her child in Isaiah 49:14-15. Previous research by Greene tended to focus solely on the feminine imagery of Yahweh as a conceptual metaphor, whereas this text actually contains a more complex analogy. The method used is thematic analysis within the scope of systematic theology, following biblical exegetical interpretation steps including analysis of the salvation prophecy genre and specific analysis of the analogy. The research findings reveal that God's attribute of faithfulness encompasses three aspects: covenant, intimacy, and transcendence. These aspects complement each other in explaining God's faithfulness within His salvation plan for His people, thus providing a biblical theological foundation for building the spirituality of believers.

Kajian Teologis Pengkhotbah 11: 9-10 Berkaitan dengan Prinsip You Only Live Once (YOLO) pada Generasi Muda Meichella Yosepha Eunike; Farel Yosua Sualang

Principles can be defined as principles, truths that become the basis for thinking, acting, and behaving. Today's young generation also has principles that they hold as a reference in life, one of which is the principle of YOLO which can be defined differently from one another. The problem is that the different understanding of the YOLO principle creates contradictions so that two people with the same principle can have very contradictory ways and achievements in life between the positive and negative sides. Misperceptions in understanding the YOLO principle can affect the moral depravity, mindset, and lifestyle of the younger generation. Therefore, by using a qualitative method with a literal study approach, the researcher will conduct research to find how the YOLO life principle is theologically linked to the book of Ecclesiastes 11: 9-10. At the end of the research, it is found that the YOLO life principle does not contradict the truth of God's word if it is accompanied by accountability to God.

Proverbs 31, functioning as the epilogue of the book, carries a significant instructional dimension, particularly in shaping character. The portrayal of the wise woman (eshet hayil) serves as a concrete example of how a person of wisdom embodies quality character traits. A review of existing literature indicates a research gap: most studies have emphasized ethical values, idealized female morality, or general themes of wisdom literature, yet have not sufficiently examined its didactic dimension. Utilizing a hermeneutical approach appropriate to the wisdom literature sub-genre, this research identifies four pedagogical elements that contribute to character formation: (1) exemplifying and modeling (vv. 15a, 16, 18, 19); (2) providing instruction (v. 15b); (3) imparting teaching and counsel (v. 26); and (4) exercising supervision and evaluation (v. 27). The findings of this study offer a valuable contribution to the process of personal maturation and the cultivation of virtuous character.

The flexing culture is a growing contemporary phenomenon where many young and old people can get caught up in this trend. Most flexing behaviors are very much oriented towards excessive flaunting of wealth, and some people even deliberately create an image to look rich. Interestingly, Proverbs 11:28 clearly states that the act of trusting in wealth will result in the consequence of experiencing a fall. The action-consequence pattern is a structural pattern in the book of Proverbs that takes into account actions based on choices and decisions that result in consequences that will be received. There is no research that specifically discusses this. Therefore, this article will discuss how to deal with the onslaught of flexing culture based on the warning of God's Word through analyzing the pattern of action-consequence words in Proverbs 11:28 using qualitative methods with sub interpretative design, especially wisdom literature hermeneutics. This study found that first, trusting in wealth is foolish and leads to downfall; second, wealth cannot guarantee that one's life will remain good and peaceful; and third, being righteous (trusting only in God) is the key to success and success. The results of this study serve as a warning to anyone who wants to live in a flexing culture so as to avoid the fall.

This article examines the aspect of emotions experienced by the prophet Isaiah in his encounter with God, described in Isaiah 6:1-8. This research is motivated by the lack of in-depth analysis of Isaiah's emotional aspects in the narrative, particularly using the 'Voice of the Bible' approach. Jill Middlemas, examines the emotional aspects of Isaiah's prophetic calling, but has not specifically highlighted the dynamics of Isaiah's emotional transition in encountering God. The research methodology involved textual analysis using an exegetical approach to Isaiah 6:1-8, including the study of key Hebrew words related to voice and emotion. Narrative analysis was used to identify the stages of the narrative and the emotions associated with each stage. In addition, a brief comparative analysis with call narratives from other prophets was conducted to provide a broader context. This research utilizes an interdisciplinary approach, combining perspectives from biblical studies, psychology, and spirituality. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to a deeper understanding of spiritual experience and its implications for contemporary spiritual life. By analyzing Isaiah's aspect of emotions, this research aims to provide new insights into the dynamics of divine encounter and spiritual transformation that can be applied in a modern context.

This article discusses the relationship between God's will and human planning with a focus on Proverbs 19:21 through a literary wisdom hermeneutical approach. This verse affirms that although many plans are in the heart of man, it is God's decision that will be carried out. Previous studies have generally highlighted God's sovereignty dogmatically or emphasized the practical aspects of human planning, but rarely integrated the two within a comprehensive hermeneutical framework. This research gap forms the basis for this study to present a new analysis. The research uses qualitative methods with semantic analysis of the Hebrew text and a review of classical and contemporary theological literature. The results of the study show three connections between humans and God: decision-making as a form of ethical responsibility, a corrective framework through God's involvement in directing plans, and evaluation of the final results as God's final decision. Thus, this study confirms that human planning and God's will are not two mutually exclusive poles, but complement each other. Proverbs 19:21 provides an ethical-theological basis for believers to plan their lives with wisdom, humility, and surrender amid the complexities of the modern world.

Abstract:The family is the first and foremost institution in shaping a child’s character. In the complexity of the Society 5.0 era, which is marked by technological disruption and changing patterns of social interaction, family communication plays a vital role in both emotional intelligence and character formation of children. To date, there has been a gap in interpretation between Manase Gulo and Armen Oganessian, who, in discussing Proverbs 15:1 and 4, focus only on communication strategies for preventing or resolving conflict, particularly in building household harmony through the use of words that can either edify or destroy. This study aims to provide parents with foundational values as a guide for good communication, thereby positively impacting children’s emotional intelligence and character development. Employing a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach to wisdom literature and literature synthesis, this article identifies three communication principles parents can apply in interacting with their children: first, gentleness, as soft words provide a concrete model for children in managing emotions; second, the use of constructive speech, which influences the development of children’s ethics and spirituality; and third, avoiding hurtful words, which can serve as a foundation for emotional regulation and character building. These findings offer practical input for parents to engage in communication based on biblical principles so that children may grow to be emotionally intelligent and of good character.

The groups of Proverbs 10-29 present a topical discussion, such as wealth, poverty, honesty, diligence, gentleness, etc. Proverbs 28:6; 19:1 speaks of the integrity of wise men who do not prioritize wealth. The problem is that interpreters limit the emphasis to elements essential to the formation of integrity in the assemblies of Proverbs 10-29, such as decision-making and character habituation. However, using a qualitative study of the sub-interpretive design of wisdom literature (especially considering the structure of parallelism, figurative language style), this article finds that there is an attachment between decision making, consistency in the nature of wisdom and character evaluation in the formation of integrity in a wise person. The attachment of these three elements is due to the existence of the wording pattern of item-evaluation and the character of the evaluation of parallelism Proverbs 28:6; 19:1.Keywords: Integrity; Parallelism; Book of Proverbs AbstrakKumpulan-kumpulan Amsal 10-29 menyuguhkan suatu pembahasan secara topikal, misalnya mengenai kekayaan, kemiskinan, kejujuran, ketekunan, kelemahlembutan, dll.
