Abstract

Since writing involves complex rules, teachers’ written feedback plays a crucial role. However, students are sometimes dissatisfied because they do not fully understand teachers’ expectations. This study investigates high school students’ preferences regarding the focus and strategy of teachers’ written feedback, emphasizing differences between high and low achievers. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through document analysis and semi-structured interviews with one English teacher and nine third-grade students at a senior high school in Bandung, West Java. The findings indicate that students’ language proficiency did not affect their preferences. Both high and low achievers favored form-focused feedback—particularly grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics—over content-focused feedback, influenced by their grammatical difficulties and the teacher’s feedback style. They also preferred indirect feedback strategies, such as underlining, symbols, and codes, because these methods promote self-correction, reflective learning, and long-term retention. However, some students struggled to interpret codes and occasionally appreciated direct feedback. The study highlights the need to balance form- and content-focused feedback and to combine direct and indirect strategies to address diverse learning needs. These findings enhance understanding of students’ feedback preferences in the high school EFL context, offering insights for teachers to design more effective and meaningful feedback.

Abstract

Background: Pengabdian Multidisiplin Kemitraan Masyarakat (PMKM) ini diarahkan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas guru SMP/MTs di Kabupaten Sijunjung dalam merancang bahan ajar inovatif yang mengintegrasikan Virtual Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) ke dalam pendekatan Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Metode: Pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui serangkaian tahapan berupa sosialisasi konsep, pelatihan intensif, pendampingan, dan praktik penyusunan perangkat ajar. Seluruh rangkaian kegiatan diikuti oleh guru IPA yang tergabung dalam MGMP Kabupaten Sijunjung. Kegiatan ini mendukung ketercapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), poin 4, yaitu Pendidikan Berkualitas. Hasil: Adanya peningkatan pemahaman guru terhadap konsep STEM serta keterampilan dalam memanfaatkan Virtual SEM sebagai media pembelajaran. Guru juga dapat membuat rancangan bahan ajar berbasis STEM yang lebih interaktif, kontekstual, dan relevan dengan perkembangan teknologi. Kesimpulan: Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa PMKM berkontribusi nyata dalam meningkatkan kualitas pedagogi guru serta mendorong lahirnya inovasi pembelajaran IPA di tingkat sekolah menengah.

Abstract

This research was driven by low student interest and understanding of abstract Science and Social Studies (IPAS) materials, alongside limited innovative digital learning media in elementary schools. Conventional teacher-centered learning often leaves students struggling to analyze contextual problems. This study aims to develop Canva-based e-comic media integrated with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the topic "Economic Conditions in My Region" that is valid and practical for Grade V elementary school students. The research follows the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Subjects included expert validators (content, language, and media specialists) and teachers and students from four elementary schools: SDN 05 Mungka, SDN 04 Mungka, SDN 01 Jopang Manganti, and SDN 02 Jopang Manganti. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and validation/practicality questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the PBL-integrated e-comic is highly valid based on expert assessments. In the implementation phase, the media was found to be highly practical, with teacher response rates reaching 90%–94% and student responses 86%–93%. In conclusion, the developed e-comic is feasible and practical as an interactive IPAS learning tool. This research implies that the media provides an effective alternative for teachers to enhance student enthusiasm and conceptual understanding through a problem-solving approach. Abstract

This research was conducted because the learning outcomes of students in the subject of science in grade IV of SDS IT Luqman Padang City are still low. The purpose of the research is to improve the learning outcomes of students in science using the jigsaw cooperative learning model in the learning process. The research used a type of classroom action research carried out in 2 learning cycles involving 22 grade IV students. The research used data collection techniques through observation, giving tests, and documentation. The results of the study showed an increase in student learning outcomes in aspects of attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Improvements also showed in teacher activities, student activities, and the quality of learning planning. Therefore, through the jigsaw cooperative learning model is considered capable of helping improve students' science learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate a virtual laboratory–based digital learning package to enhance scientific literacy among elementary school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was validated by experts in science education, media, and language, and then implemented with fourth-grade students. Data were collected through validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and pretest–posttest instruments. The findings show that the developed learning package is both valid and practical for classroom use. Students demonstrated a significant improvement in scientific literacy, with an N-gain score of 0.65 (moderate category), particularly in understanding concepts, interpreting data, and relating science to everyday phenomena. The integration of interactive simulations and multimedia elements supported active engagement and meaningful learning experiences. Overall, the virtual laboratory–based digital learning package is effective in improving students’ scientific literacy and shows strong potential to enhance the quality of science instruction in primary education in line with 21st-century learning demands.

Abstract

This research began with the limited speaking ability of students when presenting explanatory texts in grade V of SDN 18 Air Tawar Selatan. This occurs because the learning process tends to focus on educators, and the lack of students' abilities in speaking aspects, as well as low fluency and confidence when expressing opinions. The purpose of this study is to explain how students' speaking skills improve using the Time Token Arends model. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which combines qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research activities were carried out in two cycle which included planning, action, observation, and review. The research information collection technique was carried out through tests and non-tests. Participants in this study were 19 grade V students of SDN 18 Air Tawar Selatan. The study findings showed positive developments in every aspect of learning. The assessment of the In-Depth Learning Implementation Plan (RPPM) increased from 91,06% (SB) in the first cycle to 96,42% (SB) in the second cycle. Teacher and student activity also improved, from 85,93% (B) to 96,87% (SB). Students' speaking skills improved from 72,47 (C) in the first cycle to 87,27 (B) in the second cycle. There were improvements in pronunciation, grammar, vocalization, fluency, comprehension, and speaking confidence. Therefore, the Arends Time Token Learning Model has been proven to help students improve their speaking skills, especially when presenting explanatory texts

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in Pancasila Education through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model in class V.C of SDN 27 Anak Air, Padang City. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) referring to the Kemmis and McTaggart model, carried out in two cycles, namely cycle I with two meetings and cycle II with one meeting. The research subjects were 23 students, consisting of 10 boys and 13 girls. Data were collected through learning achievement tests, teacher and student activity observation sheets, and teaching module assessment sheets, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that: 1) the quality of lesson planning (teaching modules) increased from an average of 87.5% in the good category (B) in cycle I to 100% in the very good category (SB) in cycle II; 2) the implementation of learning on the teacher and student aspects increased from an average of 87.5% (B) in cycle I to 96.9% (SB) in cycle II; 3) student learning outcomes on the attitude aspect increased from 76.09 to 84.51, on the knowledge aspect from 85.99 to 88.76, and on the skill aspect from 75.41 to 86.68. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model is effective in improving the quality of planning, implementation, and learning outcomes of students in Pancasila Education in elementary school.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at Elementary School 24 Parupuk Tabing, Padang City, in the IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) subject. Issues included the teacher dominating the instructional process, limited student engagement, and the majority of students failing to meet the established learning objective criteria. To improve IPAS learning outcomes, the Discovery Learning model was implemented using a classroom action research design and a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. The study was conducted over two cycles: two sessions in Cycle I and one session in Cycle II. Each cycle comprised four stages: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection (serving as the basis for improvement). Data collection involved both test and non-test instruments. The study sample consisted of the class teacher and 29 fifth-grade students from Elementary School 24 Parupuk Tabing, Padang City. Implementing the Discovery Learning model resulted in improved quality of the teaching-learning process and student learning outcomes. By Cycle II, the score for the In-depth Learning Design (RPM) rose from 91.25% to 97.50%. The quality of the teaching-learning implementation—involving both the teacher and student participation—also saw an increase from 85.93% to 96.87%. Furthermore, the average student learning outcome score rose from 76.54 in Cycle I to 89.31 in Cycle II. Based on these results, it is concluded that the Discovery Learning model is highly effective for enhancing the quality of IPAS instruction and improving the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at Elementary School 24 Parupuk Tabing, Padang City

Abstract

This study aims to describe the teacher's efforts to instill an attitude of tolerance during Pancasila Education lessons in the third-grade class at SDN 27 Anak Air. The study employs a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. This qualitative approach seeks to gather comprehensive information regarding the teacher's efforts to foster tolerance among students within the context of Pancasila Education. The findings indicate that the teacher instills tolerance by integrating the value into every stage of the lesson, from the opening to the closing. Specific strategies include modeling tolerant behavior, forming heterogeneous study groups, facilitating student discussions, encouraging respect for differing opinions, treating students fairly, using inclusive language, and conducting value-based reflection and conflict resolution when disputes arise among students.

Abstract

This study was conducted in response to the low narrative writing skills of fourth-grade students at Angkasa Lanud Sutan Sjahrir Elementary School, in Padang. This condition was attributed to the learning model, which had not yet effectively optimized students’ engagement in the learning process, resulting in difficulities in generating ideas for narrative writing. The study aimed to describe the improvement of students’ narrative writing skills through the implementation of the Picture and Picture learning model. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. It was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Data were collected through observation, test, and non-test techniques. The participants included the classroom teacher as the observer, the researcher as the practitioner, and 22 fourth-grade students of Angkasa Lanud Sutan Sjahrir Elementary School, in Padang. The findings indicated that the quality of the teaching module improved from 89.5% in cycle-I to 95.8 in cycle-II. Teacher activity also increased from 87.45% to 97.2%, while students’ learning activity improved from 88.85% to 97.2%. In addition, the average score of students’ narrative writing skills increased from 80.25 in cycle-I to 85 in cycle-II. These findings indicate that the implementation of the Picture and Picture learning model effectively improved the narrative writing skills of fourth-grade students at Angkasa Lanud Sutan Sjahrir Elementary School, in Padang.
