Abstract

Global warming is a major concern, and tackling it via education is crucial. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of combining the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach with the Project-based Learning (PjBL) model on students' learning outcomes and science process skills in global warming topics. The study, which used a one-group pretest-posttest design, collected data from 33 grade XI students via essay questions and observation sheets to assess learning outcomes and science process skills. Critical indicators of science process abilities were observing, classifying, interpreting, predicting, applying concepts, communicating, and forming conclusions. Students worked on a STEM-based project to build a flood-resistant house over the course of five meetings (including the pretest and post-test). The findings revealed considerable improvements: learning outcomes increased by 0.6 (medium category), while science process skills improved by 0.7 (high category). Observations revealed that pupils' scientific process skills were excellent. The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference between students' learning outcomes and science process abilities before and after the intervention, with a Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000. The study indicated that combining the STEM method with the PjBL model improves students' learning outcomes and scientific process abilities. However, the small sample size implies that the results may not be generalizable. The consequence is that integrating the STEM method and the PjBL model provides an innovative option in physics education, improving learning outcomes and scientific process skills.

Abstract

Proses pembelajaran yang kurang melibatkan partisipasi peserta didik berdampak pada keterampilan proses sains yang tidak terasah, peserta didik yang tidak ikut terlibat dalam penemuan fakta suatu ilmu akan berdampak pada hasil belajar yang kurang memuaskan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing terhadap keterampilan proses sains dan hasil belajar peserta didik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan teknik pengambilan sampel yang melibatkan 2 kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Pengumpulan data menggunakan tes tertulis dan lembar observasi keterampilan proses sains. Berdasarkan hasil N-Gain, peningkatan hasil belajar untuk kelas kontrol sebesar 0,35 dan kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,47. Berdasarkan perhitungan effect size untuk hasil belajar diperoleh hasil sebesar 0,65 dengan kategori efektifitas sedang. Berdasarkan hasil uji-t independen terhadap hasil belajar, diperoleh nilai Asymp.Sig. sebesar 0,008 . Penilaian indikator keterampilan proses sains menunjukkan bahwa 5 dari 8 indikator mencapai kategori baik dengan persentase lebih dari 75%.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the level of environmental literacy of students and the results of applying the "About, In, For the Environment" learning approach with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to improve students' environmental literacy. This research is a quantitative quasi-experiment in the form of a post-test-only control group design. The population in this study were students of class XI MIPA at SMA Negeri 1 Muara Badak. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The sample in this study involved 32 students in the control class and 33 students in the experimental class. Data collection in this study used a multiple-choice test for knowledge aspects and a statement questionnaire with a Likert scale for aspects of attention, sensitivity, attitude, and behavior. The data analysis technique used the normality, homogeneity, and Mann-Whitney U tests. The results showed that the control class obtained an average test result of 68.25% and included the low category. Meanwhile, the experimental class obtained an average test result of 81.00% and included a high category. In the Mann-Whitney U test, the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a difference between the experimental and control classes, which means that the "About, In, For the Environment" learning approach with the PBL model can improve students' environmental literacy. Abstract

Global warming is a problem that has received attention from various countries because it can cause climate change accompanied by extreme natural disasters and threats to human health and survival on Earth. The problems of global warming will continue if not critically considered by the next generation. This study aimed to explore the level of critical thinking skills of high school students in Samarinda City and whether there are significant differences between the essential skills of thinking of public and private high school students and between male and female students. This research was an exploratory study using the survey method. The population in this study was all grade X high school students in Samarinda City, and a sample of 5 schools with details of 3 public and two private high schools totaled 274 students. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills were in the less crucial category, with the highest score on the likelihood and uncertainty analysis indicator of 63.89 and the lowest score on the problem-solving and decision-making indicator of 40.21. Public high school students demonstrated significantly higher critical thinking skills than their private school peers, while no significant difference was found between male and female students. The results of this study can be used as a reference for stakeholders to find out which indicators of critical thinking skills still need to be developed and take practical actions for the development of climate change education, especially in Samarinda. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve critical thinking skills in climate change education among high school students, particularly in Samarinda.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran Conceptual Understanding Procedures (CUPs) terhadap peningkatan penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan proses sains siswa SMA pada materi elastisitas dan hukum Hooke. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 9 Samarinda tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI MIPA 1 dan XI MIPA 3 yang masing-masing berjumlah 33 orang yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan desain penelitian static-group pre-test post-test design. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik tes berupa soal pilihan ganda penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan proses sains dan teknik non-tes berupa lembar observasi siswa. Hasil analisis data dengan menggunakan uji t independen berbantuan SPSS menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada peningkatan penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan proses sains siswa antara kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dengan perolehan p-value 0,040. Penerapan model CUPs dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa dengan tingkat efektifitas sedang untuk tingkat kognitif C3 mengaplikasikan dengan nilai effect size 0,46 dan C4 menganalisis dengan nilai effect size 0,52, serta dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa pada indikator mengidentifikasi variabel dan mengolah data dengan tingkat efektifitas kecil dan pada indikator menyajikan data, merumuskan hipotesis, merancang penelitian dan melaksanakan eksperimen dengan tingkat efektifitas sedang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat literasi lingkungan siswa SMP di Kabupaten Berau berdasarkan aspek kognitif, sikap, dan perilaku terkait pencemaran lingkungan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner skala Guttman (benar-salah) untuk kognitif sebanyak 16 butir pertanyaan dan skala likert untuk sikap 23 butir dan perilaku 31 butir pernyataan. Survei dilakukan terhadap 139 siswa kelas VIII dan IX dari empat sekolah yang berbeda di Kabupaten Berau menggunakan metode stratified random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas tingkat literasi lingkungan siswa pada aspek kognitif terkait pencemaran lingkungan berada pada kategori baik, dengan nilai sebesar 82,98. Tingkat literasi lingkungan siswa pada aspek sikap terkait pencemaran lingkungan berada pada kategori tinggi dengan bobot rata-rata 4,19. Tingkat literasi lingkungan siswa pada aspek perilaku terkait pencemaran lingkungan berada pada kategori tinggi dengan bobot rata – rata 3,59. Dari hasil ini, literasi lingkungan siswa SMP harus terus ditingkatkan melalui pendidikan formal maupun informal.

Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis penting dalam menghadapi tantangan Abad 21 dan perlu dilatihkan kepada peserta didik. Model Problem Based Learning (PBL) berpotensi memfasilitasi pengembangan keterampilan ini karena menuntut peserta didik untuk belajar secara langsung dan memecahkan masalah, sehingga meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model PBL terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada materi usaha, energi, dan pesawat sederhana. Jenis penelitian ini adalah pre-experimental design dengan desain one group pretest-posttest. Sampel penelitian adalah 38 siswa kelas VIII yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes essay dengan indikator berpikir kritis Facione: penafsiran, analisis, kesimpulan, evaluasi, dan penjelasan. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan berpikir kritis dengan N-Gain 0,74 dan p-value 0,000 < 0,05. Model PBL efektif sebagai alternatif untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis di sekolah.

Abstract

Energy is an important component in human life that is currently feared to be experiencing a shortage. This is because the main energy source used is fossil energy sources, which are limited and not environmentally friendly. This Community Service aims to introduce SDG-based education on the SDG's topic of using renewable energy sources to foster students' understanding and awareness of sustainable energy practices. This Community Service activity uses an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which focuses on identifying and utilizing the strengths and resources of the community and region, especially Samarinda, to support the integration of renewable energy education. This community service was carried out at State High School 4 Samarinda. The participants were all students from one of the classes who had or were taking subjects on renewable energy sources. The number of students who took part in this activity was 30 students. Data was obtained through project testing and questionnaires, which were distributed after the activities had been completed. The questionnaire consists of 10 questions, 8 of which are open questions. All groups succeeded in creating projects, and 86% of students responded positively to the SDGs. These results indicate that this educational activity has achieved its objectives regarding student understanding and awareness.

Abstract

Scientific reasoning is a thinking skill that students need in the 21st century to prepare them for global challenges. The research aims to develop STEM-based worksheets (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) on global warming, which is expected to improve students' scientific reasoning skills. This research includes the Research and Development (R&D) method. This research describes the validity of the worksheet conducted by two Physics Education study program experts. The results show that the STEM-based worksheet is very valid, averaging 93.29%. Thus, the STEM-based worksheet on the topic of global warming that has been designed can be used in high school learning to improve students' scientific reasoning skills.

Abstract

In the 21st century, technological development has entered all aspects of life, including education. With its global potential, technology digitizes education, requiring teachers to use technology through media such as augmented reality (AR). This study aims to determine the readiness of physics teachers in Indonesia to implement AR-based learning. More specifically, this research explores the extent to which physics teachers are prepared based on aspects of alignment, capability, and engagement (ACE) in implementing AR-based learning. This exploratory research is conducted by distributing questionnaires with ACE aspects. This study involved several junior and senior high school physics teachers. Data analysis techniques use KH coder and quantitative descriptive. The results show that teachers already know the definition, features, and benefits of AR in learning (alignment aspect). Still, only a minority of teachers have implemented AR-based learning (capability aspect). In the engagement aspect, it is known that teachers want to learn more about how to create AR and implement AR effectively. The implications of this research are recommendations to stakeholders to encourage and facilitate teachers, especially physics teachers.
