Abstract

Shoaling of navigation channels due to sedimentation increases safety risks and hampers economic activity. This issue is evident in the Kali Perak navigation channel, where accelerated deposition in recent years has not been addressed through routine dredging, affecting shipyard operations along the waterway. This study assesses the impact of sedimentation on shipyard operations. A quantitative approach using SPSS was employed; respondents were employees of PT Dumas Tanjung Perak Shipyard and Galangan Pelni Surya. Simple linear regression yielded the model Y = 5.943 + 1.112X, indicating a positive and statistically significant effect of sedimentation (X) on operational impacts/costs (Y). Empirically, the impacts include fewer and smaller vessels able to transit, increased operational costs, and delays while waiting for high-tide windows. These findings underscore the urgency of periodic maintenance dredging and channel management to sustain shipyard operations and navigational safety in Kali Perak.

Abstract

Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) is an expansion of the Coast Radio Station (SROP) function in the field of shipping telecommunications in the Navigation District. However, its presence makes the function of the Coast Radio Station (SROP) limited. This was observed by the author when carrying out land practices which were then researched in this scientific work. The purpose of this study is to identify whether the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) function can affect the Shore Radio Station (SROP). There are 30 Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) installation operators and the Surabaya Coastal Radio Station (SROP) as population, sample and respondents. This study uses a quantitative approach to data collection methods in the form of observation field data, interviews, and questionnaires with simple regression analysis data analysis techniques. The results of the test show a significant effect because tcount> ttable or 4.1806 < 2.048 which indicates the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The direction of the positive t value corresponds to the calculated correlation coefficient (r ≈ 0.6199), indicating that the correlation is positive.

Abstract

The long duration of the voyage necessitates the availability of sufficient fresh water on board. The fresh water generator (FWG) is an auxiliary device that functions to produce fresh water by converting seawater into fresh water through evaporation and condensation processes. The importance of FWGs in onboard operations has prompted researchers to examine their performance in meeting freshwater needs. This research was conducted to determine the factors contributing to the decline in FWG performance, its impacts, and the measures taken to address these issues. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The research data is then analyzed using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify and examine the root causes of problems or failures. The results of the study indicate that the decline in FWG performance is caused by several factors, including improper maintenance, operation not following standard procedures, and muddy seawater conditions. Additionally, the aging of pipe materials reduces resistance to corrosion. Another contributing factor is the decrease in engine efficiency and performance due to prolonged operating hours. The impact of reduced FWG performance is a decline in freshwater production on board. To optimize FWG performance, routine maintenance should be carried out according to operational schedules, coordination regarding the FWG’s condition before and after maintenance should be improved, and periodic evaluations of maintenance effectiveness should be conducted to determine more efficient steps for the future.

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world with over 17,000 islands, making maritime safety an essential aspect. In port management, there are two main regions, namely DLKr (Port Work Environment Area) and DLKp (Port Interest Area). KSOP Class II Gresik, as the technical implementation unit of the Ministry of Transportation, is responsible for overseeing ship safety and security. Based on the Maritime Court data from 2018–2024, there were 198 ship accidents with 158 fatalities, indicating weaknesses in safety supervision. This study aims to analyze the influence of KSOP's role on ship safety and security management in the DLKr area of Gresik. The method used is a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis through SPSS. The respondents consisted of 50 people from ship crews and harbor officers, using quota sampling technique. The results show that t count (2.701) > t table (2.010) and a significance of 0.010 < 0.05, indicating that KSOP's role has a significant effect. The regression equation Y = 1.321 + 0.525X shows a positive influence, although the R² value of 13.2% indicates that its impact is still limited. Pearson’s correlation of 0.363 shows a significant but weak to moderate relationship, suggesting that the effectiveness of supervision still needs improvement.
