Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the cultural reception of the Zikir Fida' Tradition by the community of Padangratu, Central Lampung, through the Living Qur’an approach. The main focus of the research is to understand how the community interprets and practices verses of the Qur'an, specifically Q.S. Al-Ahzab (33):41 and Q.S. Ar-Ra'd (13):28, within this ritual. Using qualitative methods such as observation, interviews, and documentary studies. this research analyzes the functions of the tradition based on Robert K. Merton’s Structural Functionalism theory. The results show that zikir Fida' not only serves a manifest function as a means of seeking redemption (fida') from hellfire but also has latent functions as a strengthener of social solidarity, a medium for emotional catharsis, and a reinforcement of spiritual beliefs. This tradition reflects the dialectic between sacred texts and local contexts, where the Qur'an is brought to life through meaningful communal practice. The study concludes that zikir Fida' is a complex form of cultural reception and a functional mechanism in maintaining the socio-spiritual balance of the community. Keywords : Zikir Fida', Living Qur'an, Cultural Reception, Structural Functionalism, Padangratu Community.

Abstract

Loss, whether material or non-material, is an inseparable part of the human experience that is constantly avoided. In a broader perspective, the concept of 'loss' extends beyond the loss of property, encompassing the loss of time, opportunity, and even faith. Despite being the most avoided thing, loss is often inevitable in life. Therefore, it is important to study this phenomenon in depth, especially from the perspective of the Quran as the primary source of guidance for Muslims. This study explores the acculturation of the Qur'an and Javanese culture through a linguistic analysis of the various translations of the term khasara (loss/ruin) in K.H. Bisri Musthofa's Tafsir Al-Ibriz. As a significant local Javanese commentary, Tafsir Al-Ibriz offers a unique lens to understand how Islamic sacred texts are contextualized within diverse cultural frameworks. Utilizing a qualitative methodology and library research, this study systematically inventories and analyzes 60 occurrences of khasara within the Qur'an, focusing on their interpretations in Tafsir Al-Ibriz. Findings reveal seven distinct translations for khasara in Tafsir Al-Ibriz: rugi, ngerugekake, tuno, ketunan, nunaake, kapitunan, and getun. Each translation is shown to carry specific semantic and pragmatic nuances rooted in Javanese cultural lexicon, transcending mere literal equivalents to convey deeper spiritual, ethical, and existential implications. This linguistic adaptation not only facilitates broader understanding among Javanese society but also demonstrates the dynamic interplay between divine revelation and local wisdom. The study concludes that K.H. Bisri Musthofa's Tafsir Al-Ibriz stands as a profound example of cultural adaptation in Qur'anic exegesis, highlighting how indigenous languages and cultural expressions can enrich the comprehension and internalization of religious teachings. This research contributes to the broader discourse on local tafsir traditions and the phenomenon of acculturation in Islamic intellectual history.

Abstract

Abstract Inequality in public services and legal discrimination indicate that social justice cannot be understood solely as a theoretical concept; rather, it must be interpreted as a value with concrete direction in social life. This study aims to analyze the meaning of social justice in the Qur'an through Jorge J.E. Gracia’s hermeneutical approach, employing a qualitative method based on library research, with analysis focusing on historical, semantic, and implicative functions. The study centers on three representative verses: QS. al-Māidah (5): 8 concerning the principle of justice, QS. an-Naḥl (16): 90 regarding social solidarity, and QS. an-Nisā’ (4): 135 related to legal equality. The findings demonstrate that social justice in the Qur’an is not an independent concept; rather, it is realized through solidarity and equality as its practical manifestations in social relations. Through Gracia’s framework, the messages of these verses can be understood in context, thereby maintaining their relevance to addressing the evolving realities of social injustice. Keywords: Equality; Hermeneutics; Social Justice; Solidarity. Abstract

The current ecological crisis suggests that public awareness of moral responsibility for protecting the natural environment remains insufficient. Increasing environmental degradation, including pollution, declining ecosystem quality, and weak ecological awareness, indicates that religious values concerning human responsibility toward nature have not been fully internalized in social practice, particularly among younger generations. The Qur’an contains environmental ethical values that provide a theological and moral foundation for sustaining ecological balance. This study examines how Qur’anic environmental ethics are actualized through a Living Qur’an approach among Karang Taruna youth in Karta Raya Village, Tulang Bawang Udik District, Tulang Bawang Barat Regency. It employs a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed descriptively and interpretively to identify the meanings and applications of Qur’anic values in youth social activities. The findings show that Karang Taruna youth translate Qur’anic values into ecological practices through three main forms: khilafah, which is actualized through collective clean-up activities and mosque-based environmental care; mizan, which is embodied in waste sorting and village-based waste management; and the prohibition of fasad, which is practiced through anti-pollution campaigns and irrigation-channel maintenance. The study contributes to Living Qur’an scholarship by showing how Qur’anic environmental values are received, internalized, and practiced through village youth activism. In this context, Karang Taruna youth function as local actors in ecological change who connect sacred texts with the practical needs of rural environmental management.

Abstract

This study examines three Qur’anic terms of creation — khalaqa, fatara, and bada‘a — through the al-wujūh wa an-nazā’ir approach to explore their semantic variations and theological depth. The analysis reveals that khalaqa emphasizes measured and gradual creation, fatara highlights the beginning of existence, and bada‘a signifies creation without any prior example. Together, these terms illustrate Allah’s perfection and oneness as al-Khāliq, al-Fātir, and al-Badī‘. The findings affirm that the Qur’an’s lexical choices are not linguistic coincidences but deliberate expressions of divine wisdom and rhetoric. This research provides a foundation for future studies on other Qur’anic creation terms such as sana‘a and ja‘ala from both semantic and Islamic cosmological perspectives.
