Abstract

The rapid digital transformation in higher education has significantly impacted financial transaction systems, with electronic money (e-money) emerging as a pivotal technological innovation. This mixed-methods research comprehensively investigates the utilization, challenges, and implications of digital payment systems within academic institutions. By employing a sophisticated research design that integrates quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the study explores the adoption, user experiences, and technological infrastructure of e-money in higher education settings. The research encompassed a diverse sample of academic stakeholders across multiple universities, utilizing stratified random sampling to ensure representative data collection. Key findings reveal a substantial digital payment adoption rate of 72% among students and 68% among academic staff, indicating a significant shift towards digital financial ecosystems. The study identified critical factors influencing e-money adoption, including system security, user interface design, accessibility, and technological infrastructure. Notably, the research uncovered substantial variations in digital payment adoption based on socioeconomic backgrounds and geographical locations. Transaction efficiency improved by approximately 67%, with payment processes reduced from an average of 15-20 minutes to less than 3 minutes. However, challenges persist, with 33% of respondents reporting technical difficulties and accessibility concerns. The research contributes significant insights into the digital transformation of financial transactions in higher education, highlighting the need for inclusive technological strategies, robust security mechanisms, and continuous user education. Recommendations include enhancing technological infrastructure, developing user-centric design approaches, and fostering collaborative ecosystems between educational institutions, technology providers, and regulators. This study provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the complex dynamics of e-money adoption in academic environments, offering valuable perspectives for policymakers, educational administrators, and technology developers. By examining the intersection of technology, user experience, and institutional practices, the research illuminates the evolving landscape of digital financial systems in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the social construction of traditional fishermen related to poverty in the Teluk Segara area. Poverty is often understood as an objective condition and can be measured through economic indicators. However, in the context of traditional fishing communities, poverty is also influenced by social construction involving cultural values, social structures, and human relationships and their natural environment. By using a qualitative approach and case study method, this study explores how traditional fishermen in Teluk Segara interpret and deal with their daily poverty. This study aims to examine the social construction of poverty from the perspective of traditional fishermen, with an emphasis on case studies in coastal communities However, in the context of fishing communities, poverty is also a result of social construction influenced by cultural values, social structures, and human relationships with the surrounding natural environment. These findings provide valuable insights into the importance of understanding poverty in a more specific context, especially in communities with strong ties to nature and tradition. This study also emphasizes the need for more inclusive and community-based development policies, as well as empowerment efforts that respect local values. All of this aims to improve the welfare of traditional fishermen in Teluk Segara

Abstract

The elderly or elderly group is part of the demographic structure of a country, including Indonesia. This research aims to investigate in depth the dynamics of stigma towards the elderly in Indonesia in the future, taking into account factors of social, cultural and technological change. The research approach used is qualitative with descriptive analysis. The analysis tool used is SWOT. The research results show that stigma towards the elderly is still dominant, with the perception that the elderly are an unproductive group and are a burden on the family. In addition, there are differences in perceptions between the younger and older generations, as well as the influence of social and technological changes on the development of stigma in the future. Therefore, this research not only provides an understanding of current conditions, but also opens up insight into possible changes in stigma towards the elderly along with social, economic and technological developments.

Abstract

Abstract The climate crisis and social inequality represent two of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century, deeply interconnected and necessitating rigorous sociological inquiry to examine how marginalized communities disproportionately bear the brunt of environmental harm. While qualitative and case-study approaches have dominated the field, a significant gap remains in systematic bibliometric analyses to quantify research trends, influential works, and emerging discourses. This study aims to map the evolution, key themes, and gaps in environmental sociology literature from 2014 to 2024, particularly focusing on the relationship between climate change and social inequity. Employing a bibliometric methodology, we analyzed 173 Scopus-indexed documents using VOSviewer, incorporating co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling, and keyword co-occurrence mapping. Findings reveal dominant themes such as environmental justice, socio-ecological resilience, and differential vulnerabilities, with seminal influences from Barnett (2005) on hydrology and Adger (2000) on coastal resilience. However, research on intersectional vulnerabilities—particularly gender and Indigenous adaptation strategies—remains underrepresented, alongside a geographical bias favoring Global North studies. The implications underscore the need for interdisciplinary approaches integrating traditional ecological knowledge with scientific modeling, as well as inclusive policy frameworks for just transitions. Future research priorities include examining AI’s impact on labor market disparities, human-AI collaboration in strategic sectors, and ethical governance for sustainable work. This study provides a foundational synthesis for scholars and policymakers to design evidence-based, equity-centered climate interventions, ensuring that mitigation and adaptation strategies prioritize the most vulnerable while leveraging innovation for systemic resilience.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand how students of the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu (UMB) express their identity through dressing on TikTok. In this digital age, social media platforms have become an important means for people to express themselves, their identity, as well as their social values. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving five active FAI-UMB students who frequently visit content on TikTok. Data sources were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study show that the way FAI-UMB students dress on TikTok not only reflects their academic and religious identities, but is also influenced by fashion trends and personal desires. This identity can be seen from the choice of colors, clothing models, and uploaded content that combines Islamic values with innovative visual representations. This research draws on the theory of symbolic interactionism, which explains how individuals display identity through social interaction and the use of symbols, such as clothing. For example, clothing can serve as a medium of identity communication to create meaning. In conclusion, TikTok serves as a strategic platform for FAI-UMB students to form and express a complex identity, which is a combination of religious values, pop culture, and personal desire to be seen.

Abstract

The advent of digital technologies has transformed social interactions, institutions, and research methodologies, giving rise to the field of digital sociology, which examines how digital media and big data reshape social practices and inequalities. Despite its growing influence, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of its evolution remains scarce. This study fills this gap by systematically analyzing global research trends in digital sociology from 2014 to 2024, employing a bibliometric approach with data from Scopus and Web of Science (109 documents) and using VOSviewer for co-citation and bibliographic coupling analyses. Key findings reveal dominant themes such as algorithmic governance, digital labor, and AI ethics, with influential works by scholars like Lupton (2014), Castells (1996), and Pasquale (2015), while also highlighting gaps in digital inclusion and Global South perspectives. The study underscores the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusive digital governance, providing a foundation for future research and policy decisions in addressing societal challenges posed by digital transformation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore women's involvement in the game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) from the perspective of their subjective experiences. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study involved eight female informants who actively play MLBB and have social experiences within the gaming community. The results show that women play four main roles: as active and strategic players, recipients of gender pressure, agents of resistance and adaptation, and representative symbols within the community. Despite facing various forms of discrimination and symbolic violence, the informants are able to navigate these challenges through contextual strategies of resistance and adaptation. These findings support theories of social construction and gender performativity and emphasize the importance of digital space as an arena for negotiating gender identity.
