Abstract

The Orang Tua Tangguh Program was implemented to strengthen parental emotional resilience and positive parenting practices among members of the Kelompok Keluarga Sehat Berdaya (KKSB) in Garut Regency. Grounded in the Lazarus–Folkman Appraisal Theory and Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) Appraisal, the program combined psychoeducation, language-based parenting training, reflective journaling, and group counseling over a two-month period. A total of 25 parents, primarily mothers of children aged 4–6 years, participated actively with an average attendance rate of 82%. The program led to notable improvements in parental emotional regulation, confidence, and communication patterns, with participants reporting reduced emotional outbursts and increased use of empathetic, validating language toward children. These behavioral changes contributed to better child responsiveness, decreased daily conflicts, and emerging emotional expression skills among young children. At the community level, the initiative produced a practical module on positive parenting language and fostered local role models who now support neighboring families. The findings demonstrate that integrating linguistic appraisal with psychological coping frameworks is effective in enhancing family well-being, especially in communities with socio-economic vulnerabilities.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of ChatGPT in English language learning, focusing on both its opportunities and challenges. Using a qualitative approach, the research explores the experiences of college students in the Priangan Timur of West Java, Indonesia, who use ChatGPT to support their English learning. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three students. The findings show that ChatGPT offers several advantages, including instant feedback, adaptive learning tailored to individual proficiency levels, and flexible access to learning anytime and anywhere. Participants also expressed optimism regarding the future development of ChatGPT, particularly its potential to provide more personalized, interactive, and context-aware learning experiences. However, the study also identifies several challenges, including ChatGPT’s limited capacity to provide in-depth explanations, its inability to fully replace human interaction and emotional engagement, and concerns related to data privacy and security. The study concludes that ChatGPT should be viewed as a complementary tool rather than a replacement for traditional learning, with human educators remaining essential for developing learners’ contextual understanding and communicative competence. These findings highlight the importance of ongoing development in ChatGPT technologies to support more authentic and ethical language learning experiences.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen language teachers’ visual literacy through the implementation of Deep Learning and the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) in teaching narrative texts. Visual literacy is an essential 21st-century skill that enables teachers to critically interpret and integrate visual meanings in multimodal learning. The program involved 20 language teachers—of Sundanese, Indonesian, English, and Arabic—from an Islamic senior high school in Garut. The training was designed through a Digital Storytelling-based simulation emphasizing the four stages of GBA: Building Knowledge of the Field, Modelling of the Text, Joint Construction of the Text, and Independent Construction of the Text. Through a Deep Learning approach, participants developed a deeper understanding of the interconnection between visual and linguistic elements within narrative texts. The results indicate an improvement in teachers’ ability to design multimodal text instruction that is both reflective and contextually meaningful.

Abstract

This qualitative case study explores Academic Writing lecturers’ perceptions of students’ use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in higher education contexts. Framed by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the research examines lecturers’ evaluations of AI’s perceived usefulness, ease of use, attitudes toward use, and behavioral intentions regarding its integration in academic writing courses. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with three Academic Writing lecturers at a university in Garut, Indonesia, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that lecturers perceive generative AI as a dual-edged catalyst: it offers substantial efficiency in brainstorming, structuring arguments, and language refinement, yet raises significant concerns about academic integrity, cognitive dependency, superficial learning, and erosion of critical thinking. Lecturers adopt a stance of critical acceptance, viewing AI as a pedagogical partner rather than a substitute for human intellectual effort. Their behavioral intentions focus on strategic regulation, including transparency mechanisms such as AI logs and prompt histories, negotiating meaning in revisions, and redesigning process-oriented assessments to preserve authentic learning. This study contributes to the discourse on AI in education by illuminating nuanced, ethically grounded educator perspectives and providing practical recommendations for institutional policy and pedagogical adaptation in the generative AI era, particularly in Indonesian higher education contexts.
