Abstract

Abstract: Learning activities for school children during the Covid-19 pandemic were carried out using the Distance Learning method. Distance learning indirectly changes children's behavior both while studying and playing. The restriction of activities and play space for school children during Distance Learning method is a change that all children must face, including children living in housing. Pattern of Space and environmental settings, especially the residential environment, have a major influence on children's playing behavior. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, which is to analyze through comparison of survey data and direct observation from two different residential environment settings. The result of the research is that different spatial patterns will affect children's play behavior patterns during distance learning, children's responses to spatial patterns, structure and character of environmental settings in play activities. The behavior and responses of different children become the design reference and produce basic data about the effect of pattern of greeting on children's playing behavior. Subsequent research on elements of the playroom in the New Normal. Abstract

The focus of this study is the issue of reorganizing the preexisting Islamic Geometric Patterns found at the Cheng Ho Mosque via the use of computer modeling techniques. The need for computer modeling research for rearranging geometric patterns at the Cheng Ho Mosque may be attributed to many factors. The objective is to use digitization to streamline the ornamental design process. The study methodology used included the analysis of geometric forms, which were then processed and patterned using Parametric Islamic Geometric Patterns with the assistance of Grasshopper software. This study employs the Islamic octagonal archetype, similar to Chinese geometric ornamentation, using circular geometry with a radius input, as discussed in the preceding article. The inclusion of the division shape serves as a necessary limitation to facilitate the cutting of the recurring patterns. The findings indicate that the algorithmic technique is constructed using a collection of parameter inputs organized into four primary components: octagonal basis geometry, repetition procedure, partition or boundary-shaped surface, and material dimension simulation. However, it also demonstrates varying parameter inputs, posing challenges in organizing them accurately to generate the octagonal form. Visual scripts may effectively depict Islamic geometry in open systems that exhibit parametric adaptability to the fundamental principles of division. During the design processing phase, it is possible to exert control over the pattern proportions in some instances.

Abstract

Traditional clove essential oil distillation remains inefficient due to manual labor dependency, imprecise oil-water separation, and inconsistent product quality. Addressing these limitations, this study aims to design and develop a smart, Internet of Things (IoT)-based system named AquaClove to automate and optimize the distillation process. The system integrates an ESP32 microcontroller, ultrasonic sensors, and solenoid valves, enabling precise fluid level detection and automated oil-water separation. Using the Arduino IoT Cloud, the system supports real-time monitoring and remote control, enhancing operational transparency and scalability. results indicate that the system achieved a 32% reduction in total distillation time (from 4.2 to 2.9 hours), 66.7% reduction in labor requirements (from 3 to 1 personnel), and 66.7% reduction in oil loss per 10-liter batch (from 0.6 L to 0.2 L). The ultrasonic sensors consistently detected liquid levels with an average measurement deviation of less than ±2 mm, while solenoid valves responded within 0.8 seconds of command input. These outcomes demonstrate significant improvements in process efficiency, separation precision, and system responsiveness. Furthermore, the modular container design promotes gravity-assisted separation, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing mechanical complexity. The remote monitoring feature allows users to access real-time data on fluid levels and system status, ensuring reliable operation with minimal manual supervision. AquaClove thus demonstrates how integrating ultrasonic sensing and IoT technologies can modernize traditional agricultural processes. This study contributes a scalable and sustainable solution to the essential oil industry, particularly in small- and medium-scale clove oil production.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form and façade of the SQ Residence mixed-use office center in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the context of contemporary architectural principles. The focus is on identifying visual and geometric characteristics that reflect modern design in an urban setting. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, combining a literature review of architectural theories with direct field observations. Data were collected through documentation and visual analysis, focusing on external elements due to access limitations. The SQ Residence office center, consisting of three identical towers, features an elliptical base form with additive and subtractive transformations that create a dynamic and expressive mass. The façade integrates glass panels for transparency and natural light, combined with a secondary skin of steel and aluminum composite panels, forming vertical and horizontal rhythmic patterns. These features align with key aspects of contemporary architecture: innovative geometry, contrasting materials, transparency, and contextual distinction. The design of the SQ Residence office center demonstrates how contemporary architecture can effectively merge aesthetic expression with environmental and urban responsiveness. This study contributes to the understanding of form-façade relationships in mixed-use developments and highlights practical design strategies for architects working in dense urban environments.

Abstract

Dili, the capital city of Timor-Leste, is increasingly vulnerable to flooding due to its geomorphological characteristics and rapid urban expansion. The Comoro River, the largest of several rivers traversing the city, has experienced multiple significant flood events in recent years most notably in March 2020, April 2021, and February 2022 resulting in severe damage to infrastructure and disruption to local communities. Urban development has led to watershed degradation, sediment accumulation, reduced channel capacity, and embankment overtopping, exacerbating flood risks in densely populated areas. This study aims to assess flood risk and evaluate embankment resilience using an integrated modeling approach. Design flood discharge was estimated using the Log Pearson Type III distribution and the Nakayasu synthetic unit hydrograph, with validation through Chi-Square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit tests. Hydraulic simulations were conducted using HEC-RAS 6.1.0 programme, while flood inundation mapping was performed with ArcGIS 10.3 to identify critical flood-prone zones and guide mitigation strategies. Results indicate a peak discharge of 192.141 m³/s for a 25-year return period flood. Mitigation measures proposed include embankment construction and river normalization at vulnerable cross-sections. HEC-RAS simulations demonstrate that these interventions significantly reduce flood inundation. The embankment slope stability factor was calculated at 7.55, indicating a high level of structural safety. The estimated cost for implementing these flood control measures is USD 571,366.87. This study provides a replicable framework for flood hazard modeling and infrastructure planning in urban river systems, contributing to climate-resilient development and evidence-based decision-making in Southeast Asian contexts.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed educational practices globally, compelling a shift from traditional in-person learning to online modalities. This shift significantly impacted Architecture and Interior Design studio courses, which traditionally rely on hands-on, collaborative studio environments. This qualitative descriptive study explored the challenges faced by students during the transition to online studio-based learning. Data were collected via questionnaires distributed to Architecture and Interior Design students to examine their experiences and adaptation processes. Findings revealed that students encountered both virtual/digital and physical/non-physical obstacles. Digital limitations included inadequate access to technological devices and varying levels of digital literacy among students and lecturers. Physical challenges involved the lack of appropriate equipment and working environments at home. Additionally, students faced non-physical barriers such as changes in time management, learning methodologies, behavioral adjustments, psychological stress, and unstable internet connectivity. The transition to online studio learning involved more than technological adaptation. Effective learning outcomes were influenced by the availability of physical tools and the ability to adjust to new learning rhythms and psychological demands. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive strategies that address not only digital readiness but also physical infrastructure and student well-being. Further research is recommended to explore in depth the behavioral and psychological dimensions of this transition.

Abstract

Highlights: • The maternal mortality for women's exposed birth in the forest on Tribe Kampung Poo, Merauke Regency is higher. • Mother's knowledge perceptions of women's exposure to birth in the forest were more dominant than community leader's roles, husband or family roles and respondent characteristics. Abstract: In one of the districts in Papua, namely the Merauke Regency, the maternal mortality number in 2016 reached 17 cases, 13 cases in 2017, 6 cases in 2018, 9 cases in 2019, and 7 cases in 2020. Data in 2020 showed that 4,163 of the 5,377 deliveries by health workers assistance in Merauke Regency had not been fully achieved. There were 4,098 deliveries carried out in health care facilities. This study analyzed determinant factors on perceptions of the exile women giving birth in the forest from women of Yei Tribe, Poo Village, Merauke Regency, Indonesia. This study used analytic design methods with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling was non-probability with a total sample method of 57 mothers with toddlers. Univariate analysis was used to describe the characteristics of each research variable, including respondent characteristics, mother's knowledge, the role of community leaders, and the role of husband or family, while the dependent variable was the perception of women giving birth in the forest. This study found that there was a correlation between education (p-value 0.000; OR=13.33), knowledge (p-value 0.000; OR=133.00), the community leaders' role (p-value 0.009; OR=5.00), and husband's role (p-value 0.000; OR=28.00) with perceptions of the exile women giving birth in the forest at women of Yei Tribe, Poo Village, Merauke Regency, Indonesia. Therefore, knowledge is dominant in the perceptions of exiled women giving birth in the forest.
