Abstract

Waste management in Pangkalan Buton Village is a crucial issue in sustainable development, especially in vulnerable coastal areas. This research examines the current condition of waste management facilities, the level of compliance with environmental regulations, and public participation. Findings show that daily waste generation reaches 0.4 kg per person, mostly consisting of biodegradable organic waste. However, the lack of recycling and composting infrastructure hinders proper processing. Waste collection services are inconsistent, and public awareness remains low. The study recommends enhancing community education through continuous outreach programs and strengthening the role of the DPRKPLH. Developing modern waste management infrastructure, implementing data-based monitoring and evaluation systems, and enforcing environmental laws are also essential. Collaboration between local government, private sectors, and communities should be improved, especially through CSR initiatives and the use of digital tools like reporting apps. Effective waste management not only preserves the environment but also creates economic opportunities through recycling and compost production. Ultimately, a holistic and integrated approach involving education, infrastructure, law enforcement, and technological innovation is necessary to achieve efficient, sustainable, and community-supported waste management in Pangkalan Buton Village.

Abstract

Bioplastik adalah jenis bahan yang cakupannya luas, meliputi plastik berbasis bio (bio-based) tetapi tidak harus biodegradabel ataupun plastik berbahan dasar petrokimia dan bio yang dianggap bersifat biodegradable. Penggunaan bioplastik diharapkan dapat mengurangi pencemaran lingkungan yang diakibatkan sampah plastik konvensional. Namun seringkali sifat fisik dari bioplastik belum sesuai dengan yang diinginkan, sehingga perlu ditingkatkan, misalnya dalam hal kekuatan mekanik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan mikroselulosa hasil isolasi dari tandan kosong kelapa sawit terhadap sifat bioplastik komposit dari PVA-selulosa-asam sitrat-pati-gliserol. Adapun tahapan metode yang dilakukan: preparasi serat, delignifikasi, hidrolisis asam, pembuatan film tipis bioplastik, serta karakterisasi mikroselulosa dan plastik yang dihasilkan. Mikroselulosa hasil isolasi memiliki derajat kristalinitas 39% dan diameter serat ± 8,5 μm. Bioplastik dengan lima variasi penambahan massa mikroselulosa: masing-masing diuji kekuatan mekanik, biodegradabilitas dengan metode soil burial test, dan penyerapan air. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan pengaruh penambahan mikroselulosa terhadap bioplastik, yaitu dalam hal peningkatan kekuatan tarik dari bioplastik menjadi 7 - 8 MPa dan persen elongasi 10-16%. Biodegradabilitas dan penyerapan air dari bioplastik semakin tinggi seiring dengan penambahan jumlah mikroselulosa dalam bioplastik.

Abstract

Pheophorbide, as a chlorophyll derivative, has potential as a complexing ligand for heavy metals, including lanthanides. The synthesis of Nd-pheophytin complex and its more polar Nd-pheophorbide (pheophytin’s hydrolyzed product) were investigated using pheophytin isolated from Katuk’s (Sauropus androgynus L. Merr.) leaves. This study aims to determine the optimal reaction conditions and the complex characteristics. Pheophytin ligand and Nd were complexed under two different reaction conditions: room temperature and reflux at 65 °C for 10 hours. The pheophytin starting material was obtained by preparative thin-layer chromatography (PTLC), yielding 0.02 g. UV-vis analysis revealed characteristic absorption bands at 404 nm (Soret band) and 666 nm (Q band) in methanol, while FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of functional groups corresponding to pheophytin. The Nd-pheophytin complex formation was indicated by hypsochromic shifts in UV-vis spectra, suggesting the Nd³⁺ complexing. Fluorescence spectra between pheophytin and Nd-pheophytin showed distinct emission patterns, with pheophytin exhibiting peaks at 662 and 722 nm, while Nd-pheophytin displayed peaks with shoulders at 654 and 714 nm. Hydrolysis of Nd-pheophytin using 1 M NaOH at pH 10 produced Nd-pheophorbide. TLC analysis showed a decrease in the Rf value of Nd-pheophytin to Nd-pheophorbide from 0.95 to 0.43, with tailing, attributed to the higher polarity of pheophorbide. These findings confirm the successful synthesis and hydrolysis of the Nd-pheophytin complex.
